Review of Satan

Satan (2006)
6/10
Weird and funny French horror
24 September 2008
Ending my viewings of the French Horror Wave thread movies, this is one I had to be convinced to check out, and it left me pretty confused. If I hadn't read the synopsis on the DVD box, I would have been totally lost as to what the hell the plot was, and only by reading that I connected the dots to a pact with the devil. Nevertheless, Vincent Cassel's performance is the reason to see this movie, because the story even knowing a little about the plot, makes pretty much no sense at all. It's another one of those partyers going to a house in the middle of nowhere, greeted by a crazy family up to no good. The evil smile on Cassel's face throughout the movie is hilarious as is most of the movie. Nothing scary about it, nothing much in the way of gore, but the creepiness factor is pretty high. I don't think there was one death scene in the entire movie, but it makes no difference, because this is cinema of the weird, and you have to just go with it. This is by far my least favorite of the French horror genre, and I could not recommend it to anybody, except maybe Cassel completist, if there are any of those out there.
