The Matrix Online (2005 Video Game)
1/10

Warning: Spoilers
All the actors have quit and they killed off all the primary characters like Morpheus and cypher. The story in the online RPG used to be told in chapters until all the actors quit. Now they just show some storyboards with some hammy voice acting. YET THEY STILL CHARGE YOU THE SAME AMOUNT 19.99! That is the most expensive monthly charge of all MMO's.

A Major problem a lot of people have is that your character can reach level 50 yet the enemies only go up to level 25 providing no challenge after the initial 24 hour experience. Its a better social networking site and it does this quite well by allowing you to interact with other players and use emotes like dance and sit. I feel they should of had more emotes like WoW instead of just dance and sit. An odd thing is that the matrix is supposed to contain all of humanity. Yet its all white people so apparently the matrix was really invented by Hitler. This is why the writers and actors quit the project unfortunately. This is an excellent idea on paper but once Sony took took over the implementation of that idea the story went downhill.

So after level 25 your granted access to interact with NEO an NPC who is always standing there but ignores you like a buffoon. At level 25 he tells you that you have "ascended" and he explains his rebirth and the path towards the light of truth. WOW! Then NEO sends you on a bunch of fetch quests for him that involve tracking down rogue spies in ZION outside the mainframe. Its kind of cool piloting the ship but they could have added some better missions than pick up this pipe or searching for broken wires to repair. At level 30 Neo goes through his transformation revealing he is actually not human but the collective consciousness of the earth itself.

WHAT THE CRAP IS THAT!

so anyways he then sends you on more quests and after about the 10th is completed. The last mission involved seeking out a hermit who is an exile program who tells you that Neo needs the sword of infinite light. Though he never tells you how to get it and when you return to Neo he congratulates you then says he is off to find the sword to defeat the "Gatekeeper of Minoch". Neo then goes back to standing there like a tool. The war mechs should have been used to battle sentinels not move things around. When he gave me the mech quest i was hoping for something better than just moving solar generators from one place to another.

All in all I expected a lot more from a current game. The graphics are very poor and there is relatively no challenge and explains why the target audience is 13-16 due to its rating. Any online coop experience is always ruined due to the overwhelming number of children who play this game for free since they get keys to demo the games and just keep playing free instead of ever signing up. It seems they play solely to ruin the enjoyment for the paying members.

Regretfully I have canceled my membership today :(
