Review of The Hoax

The Hoax (2006)
4/10
Never allow a few facts to inhibit your imagination....

There is nothing more interesting than a good hoax. The " Cardiff Giant" was a hoax that was mesmerizing for it's ingenuity. While this movie, "The Hoax", has the basis for maintaining interest, it is badly blurred between speculation and facts, takes liberties with the audience, and ultimately fails as entertainment. The acting, especially by Richard Gere is good, but character development is minimal, and there are absolutely zero likable characters. The film is entirely too long and the conclusion such a stretch that any remaining credibility flies out the window. Finally, the authentic 70s soundtrack seems better suited to a biker movie than "The Hoax" - MERK
