Even though we have become inundated with short CG films in recent years of exceptional quality thanks to powerful home computers and rendering software, CANE-TOAD is a standout artistically. Its CG effects are excellent--perhaps too good. That's because when it comes to the story, I was less than thrilled--especially at some of the very disgusting scenes of toads being very realistically smashed or liquefied. I usually LOVE cartoon violence--because it is so obviously fake--this really looks too real for comfort. Some might think this is funny--I just thought it was rather gross. Additionally, this is also NOT a kid-friendly film because of the relatively strong language for an animated film. Usually, when you see a film is CG, you assume it's for the family--this one isn't.
Still, the quality is very good despite the unpleasantness of the film. It's worth seeing just for the animation, but that's really about it. I didn't find it funny or memorable in a good way.
