Review of The Hoax

The Hoax (2006)

A bit too light hearted to be taken seriously
29 August 2007
Richard Gere stars in the story of Clifford Irving and his attempt to sell the the Howard Hughes autobiography.

This humorous telling of the tale either will work for you or it won't for me it just sort of missed. The problem for me was that the same story was told with the actual people in Orson Welles great film F is for Fake. Having that film in may head made the often silly presentation here, difficult to take. Its not bad but it not really believable as Marcia Gay Harden's accent make abundantly clear. Its dress up time more than anything else.

If you can get past the artificial nature of the presentation then you're going to have a good time.
