Two important points about my review. First it contains spoilers and second sorry for my bad English, because it is not my foreign language.
It was the year 1998 when Jackie became an international superstar with his smash hit rush hour. This movie was an typical American buddy movie. Rush Hour was a good movie but it never had that quality like Jackie's Asian movies have. In the next years Jackie more and more Hollywood projects including his greatest hit Rush Hour 2. But all his American movies are the same and the fans getting disappointed more and more. And also his HK movies did not get good critics (Accidental Spy which i found good). And his latest films like the tuxedo and medallion are cruel to watch. They weren't jc movies. We can say, that Jackie lost his popularity.
BUT in the year 2004 Jackie once again get back to his hk roots and filmed with very talented director Benny Chan a Asian smash hit action vehicle that shows Jackie's ability's one more time on a high level. And also this movie shows what Jackie can do as a actor too. Jackie is maybe not the next Robert de niro, but his acting skills are good and believable.
The next project The Myth weren't the same level like New Police Story, but it was not a bad movie. I will say it was a movie which is a taste movie. ( I hope you know what i mean)
And finally he did once again with director Benny Chan the last of three HK movies in a period. And what we see in Rob B Hood is a Jackie Chan we all like with his typically humor, typically action and stunts and also a completely new Jackie Chan.
This time he plays a bad guy. A thief which is also in some terms like a real Jackie Chan but probably different. He gambles, he steal and he did things the normally Jackie characters doesn't do. So this movie is different now.
The story is not new, but the ideas are refreshing and very funny. I have laughed a lot in that movie.
The important question is, how is the action. Let me say Rob B Hood contains a lot of action ( even more than Police Story 1) But the movie is very long and thats the reason why the audience think it has not as much action like his previous films. But thats not true. One of the most spectacular scenes is Jackie jumping a 100 m building done from one air conditioner to another. Wow, i have never seen such a scene in any action movie.Another highlight is the fight Jackie vs Yuen Biao vs everyone. Very fast and very tricking fighting. There is also a trampoline fighting scene but this scene is not long but funny. In my opinion i think it could be better.- Than we have a car chase which is also very good. Than we have the ocean park action scene that contains a ferris wheel scene ( it tops the ferris action scene in My Lucky Stars ) and a very dangerous roller coaster action scene. And than we have also the final fight which is better than the end fight in New Police Story and much longer. Also it contains some movements i never see in any action movie. Don't forget the funny hospital action scene in the beginning of the movie. Rob B Hood also have some other small fights and stunts too. So let me say the action is very good and amazing. Truly, Jackie can not do the stunts he did when he was 30 or 40 years but what he did io Rob B Hood is not only very good for a man who is 52. Younger guys can not do some incredible stunts.
So what can i say more. The sound effects are very good and the camera angles once again very untypically and very good.
One point what i think that it is bad for the movie is the long screen time. Rob B Hood is definitely to long. Boredom is not often in the movie but it slows the movie a little bit down.
