Another ITC compilation of two Space: 1999 episodes
6 October 2005
This was the last ever movie produced by the ITC New York offices under the banner 'Super Space Theatre' of Gerry Anderson productions. Produced in 1982, it combines the two first season Space: 1999 episodes 'Collision Course' and 'The Black Sun'. Again the choice of episodes is excellent and they go well together, but the new video animated titles at the beginning are the worst ever, the giant 'Journey Through the Black Sun' logo looks ghastly. Once again music is added, mainly from 'Joe 90' and 'UFO'. The film is generally faithful to the original material, but some of Arra's dialogue from 'Collision Course' is repeated and even some moved into the end of 'The Black Sun'segment, the "Your Odyssey shall know no end" speech. This production was however one of the first glimpses British audiences had of Space: 1999 when it was released as part of Precision Video's video range and then Channel 5's video range in the mid 1980's. If you want to see Space: 1999 again to re-live childhood memories, this is the one for you, but if your a fan this isn't a good representation of the series and your money would be better spent buying all the episodes on DVD.
