Death of A Cheerleader (1994 TV Movie)
Yes, peer abuse at it's peak!
26 December 2004
I have been waiting a while to comment on this movie mainly because I had a hard time trying to be objective about it as I have met many Stacies and Angelas in my time and how bullying is done in girls. This movie is probably the best example of the female bully and how well she hides her evil side from those in authority, uses it to manipulate her peer group and keeps every one around her a little "off balance." Now, I do not justify killing under ANY circumstances. In the movie, Angela killed Stacy and whether Stacy was going to bad mouth her all over the school or not is moot. There is NO JUSTIFICATION IN KILLING! Angela committed a crime, could keep it inside for only so long and eventually, she snapped and could not hide it anymore. The behavior of a cold blooded killer? HARDLY! More like the behavior of someone who feared being a target of the female bully, found herself in a whole new environment, dreamed of being popular and tried to stay as positive as she could. A dreamer? Sure......insecure? Very definitely. However, Angela's behavior, being that she was 15 years old and in a new environment, lived in an environment full of Mercedes and BMW's and being perfect, her behavior was not that atypical. Angela committed a horrible crime and yes, deserved to be punished and she was.

Stacy was the classic female bully; People befriended her because she was "the golden girl" and even one of Angelas best friends did so because, as she admitted, was afraid of her. Stacy had everything, a great figure, was pretty, a lark, cheerleader.....she had it all by the palm of her hand. As everyone gave Stacy this "power" she used it to her advantage. Her parents doted on her, prinicipal "Ex-lax" all but sucked up to her.......Stacy charmed the socks off of everyone.

Folks, this is what happens when we over indulge people and are taken in by superficial charms. Stacy KNEW where to take her cruelty and who to take it to. Angela defended Monica (and rightfully so! Monica was only being an individual and of course, that went against Stacy's book of ethics!)which made Angela a target. Angela was insecure and wanted acceptance so bad and was drawn in by Stacy and her charms. Angela's friend was accepted by Stacy, she saw that Stacy was "glorified", had everything and Angela wanted it too. When Stacy threatened her in the car with spreading rumors around school or that she was weird and needed to hang around Monica, Angela lost all senses, any sort of sanity and killed Stacy.

What society needs to realize is that bullying behavior, which is done in private 98% of the time, is what drives others to take such actions. More than anything, I think Angela feared becoming a target and would do whatever it took to have that heat off of her. Did anyone ONCE mention that Stacy was evil and cruel? NO! Her parents thought she was the be all to end all and "Ex-Lax" behaved as if she were the next Messiah. Ilk like him is what keeps bullying alive in the schools.

Angela was punished fairly. However, Angela was NOT insane, unstable or any of that. She was a sensitive, 15 year old, driven and passionate girl with a lot of economical and environmental insecurities. She wanted to belong and befriending Stacy is what she felt was the way to go. When it backfired, she snapped. She set expectations on herself that were too high and beat herself up for not reaching them.

Stacy, she was pathetic and as this is based on a true story, I hope GOD had some mercy on her soul. She had the world by the tail and instead of using that to bring good and help others, she misused that power to upset, demean and emotionally destroy. She never left Monica alone, kept Angela off balance and those friends of hers? One would hope that they learned something in this and got a life.....hey, even Jamie admitted that she did not like her but stayed around her out of fear more than anything.

As for "Mr. Ex-Lax"..........what a loser! In my book, he was anything BUT THE BEST.......but a monster himself.......
