I LOVE Kurosawa's movies and think Toshiro Mifune is one of the greatest. But Mifune and Kurosawa have both been much better. This is far too long and uninvolving. After a while, this tale of a doctor who cares for the poor begins to feel like an extended episode of "Marcus Welby, M.D."
