Every generation gets the aspirational workplace it deserves. In 2006, “The Devil Wears Prada” helped establish the archetype of an imperious, intimidating woman who rules her chic urban office with an iron fist; with its obvious Anna Wintour analog, the book-turned-film also doubled as a bookend to the era of the print magazine editor’s omnipotence. Eight years later, Sophia Amoruso coined the term “Girlboss,” a cutesy moniker that soon got a Netflix adaptation to match. Latter-day examples have updated the template to keep pace with the times: “Younger” took place in the wake of the Great Recession, when securing a dream job requires some deceit, while “The Bold Type” was proudly progressive — think 2010s Cosmo, not mid-aughts Vogue. In these stories, actual employment is less secure, but the employer acts less like a dictator than a stern, if nurturing, mentor.

Since 2020, television programming at Netflix has primarily been led by Bela Bajaria, who joined the streamer in 2016 and rose quickly through the company from her initial post as head of unscripted and international content. In the time she’s been at the helm, the company has had its stumbles but has also produced immensely successful series like “Squid Game” and “Wednesday.”
So what’s her method to success? According to a profile in The New Yorker, it’s making shows like “gourmet cheeseburgers.”

Virgin River logged a second week as the most-streamed title in the U.S., according to Nielsen, and Stranger Things and The Gray Man also repeated in second and third place, respectively.
The entire Top 10 for July 25-31 was comprised of Netflix films and series, which used to be a weekly pattern but has become more rare. Because of the delay built into Nielsen’s reporting process, streaming numbers for House of the Dragon on HBO Max will not be out for another three weeks, but that title is one of a few in August likely to disrupt the all-Netflix nature of the chart.
Viewership for Virgin River, which just added a fourth season, fell just 9 from the prior week to come just shy of 2.4 billion minutes of streaming. Stranger Things, most of whose fourth season premiered in May, slipped 19, while Russo Bros. spy action movie The Gray Man declined...

Virgin River is acknowledging its shortcomings. Jinny Howe, Netflix's head of drama, recently admitted that "more diversity and inclusion" is a priority for the romantic drama. The series, which focuses on the ups and downs that underpin the small, titular town, has only few actors of color and recently introduced the show's first LGBTQ+ characters in season four. "Without getting specific, I will say that that continues to be a focus," Howe said in an interview with Deadline Aug. 23. Virgin River has been a huge hit for Netflix since its launch in 2019.
The romantic drama landed a two-season renewal last year, keeping it on the air through its fifth season.
With Virgin River Season 4 recently wrapped, there have been questions about whether the show will end with its fifth season.
Netflix tends to end shows before they get to a fifth season, unless they are global hits.
Thankfully, Jinny Howe, the Netflix drama head sees "longevity and growth" ahead, meaning that there's a good chance the show will continue for a sixth season.
However, Howe wants the show to continue "as long as the audience asks for it and shows up."
