Man, Netflix – you are all over the place this September. A horror parody, an old and a new raunch-friendly animated series, a remorselessly bleak film from Angelina Jolie and, somehow, even more Narcos episodes? (Viewers may remember that last season jettisoned a pretty key character.) Streaming-wise, you'll also get a trio of personal visions from comedy writers and a cavalcade of vintage-ish sitcoms courtesy of Hulu. “Narcos” has never been a simple show to process, especially for someone not embedded in this universe — there are many players, many complications, speaking in many languages, operating decades ago.
But it is one of the great examples of shows that have improved thanks to the opportunity to grow and evolve, and Season 3 continues that journey with an investment in human storytelling.

Pablo Escobar may be dead, but life goes on for Netflix’s Narcos series.
In fact, soon after the fallout of season 2, the online streamer went ahead and ordered a two-season renewal, thereby ensuring its hit crime saga will be with us until at least 2018. That’s a resounding vote of confidence for a show that’s now beginning to mosey into uncharted territory, but as today’s all-new trailer reveals, Pedro Pascal’s DEA agent Javier Peña is back, and he has the Cali Cartel firmly between his crosshairs.

Cocaine has gone global and invaded New York City in the first full trailer for “Narcos” Season 3. Agent Javier Peña (Pedro Pascal) is back to help take down the Cali Cartel, which quietly rose to power while everybody was focusing on Pablo Escobar (who you’ll remember was taken out in Season 2). The Cali Cartel runs things a bit differently than Escobar did, choosing to bribe government officials and keep violent acts out of the headlines. They also opted to run the cocaine cartel like a “Fortune 500 business,” as stated in the trailer, which turned it into a global enterprise.

The real-life figure that powered the first two seasons of “Narcos” may be gone, but it looks like the crime drama is already well on its way to another target.
Netflix released its first full look at Season 3 of the DEA-centered period show, which starts Pedro Pascal as Javier Peña, an agent who’s on to his next major investigation. This season, Peña has his sights set on the Cali Cartel, headed by a quartet of powerful ringleaders.

A departure from the pursuits of Pablo Escobar that highlighted Seasons 1 and 2, this trailer hints that Peña won’t be alone in this new fight. Standing up the cartel’s involvement in local law enforcement and national politics will mean getting help from both U.S. and Colombian task forces.
The network just had a big hit with another dark crime series, Jason Bateman’s “Ozark.” Co-starring Laura Linney, the first season focused on the unintended (and inevitable) consequences of money laundering, especially on the fabric of a family. For fans looking for more before Season 2 of that show becomes a reality, this seems like an ideal fix until then.
Pascal’s fellow “Narcos” Season 3 cast members also include Kerry Bishé, Michael Stahl-David, Damián Alcázar, Miguel Ángel Silvestre, Hélmer Herrera, and Matt Whelan.

With Pablo Escobar out of the mix at the end of the second season of “Narcos,” the series has had to pivot a little, but the next batch of episodes will find law enforcement taking on a new kingpin.
DEA agent Javier Peña (Pedro Pascal) will be part of the team looking to take down the Cali Cartel in “Narcos” season 3. Boyd Holbrook and Joanna Christie return as well, in what looks like a season that wipes the slate clean in some regards, but also gives audiences the familiar elements they’ve come to expect from the popular show: drugs, action, and exotic locations.

Here’s a theory: For any TV creators who get more than a season to prove themselves, it’s Season 2 where they really figure out what kind of show they’re making. And with “Narcos,” we see some pretty clear proof of that.
Season 1 of Netflix’s fact-based drama — about how cocaine created criminal empires in Colombia and beyond — was jam-packed with over 15 years of drug cartel history, and the result, unfortunately, was not consistently engaging for anyone other than the most passionate fans of the subject matter. But from the first moments of Season 2, the Netflix series shows new focus. Thanks to a much narrower scope — the 18-month hunt for Pablo Escobar, following his escape from La Catedral prison — characters are allowed to breathe more. The power struggles have real weight. And the potential for seasons to come becomes clear.

The DEA. Search Bloc. The Cali Cartel. Los Pepes. It’s fair to say that Pablo Escobar doesn’t have to search too far to locate a handful of enemies hungry for revenge. It’s this tension that threatens to boil over once the infamous kingpin escapes the clutches of prison which, as today’s breathless new trailer shows, is an arc that will underpin the upcoming second season of Narcos.
Set for a premiere next Friday, September 2, the show’s second outing welcomes back Wagner Moura as the scenery-chewing Escobar, with the imminent batch of episodes poised to take a deep dive into the kingpin’s warped personality.
That lays the groundwork for a much more focused affair, after Moura revealed recently that Narcos season 2 trades the epic scope of its forebear for intimate drama that zeroes in on Pablo himself.

If the critically-acclaimed inaugural season of Narcos chronicled more than a decade of Pablo Escobar’s criminal empire, season 2 is set to be a much more focused affair, zeroing in on the final year of Escobar’s twisted reign.
With a premiere date booked for September 2 and a pulse-pounding trailer already on the interwebs, excitement is beginning to snowball ahead of Narcos season 2, and Wagner Moura has been soliciting questions regarding his return as the infamous kingpin.
The latest tidbit to emerge hails from /Film, where the actor revealed that the sophomore season is set to trade a sweeping, epic scope for intimate drama.

Pablo Escobar is a drug kingpin who needs no introduction. At the peak of his historic reign at the tip-top of a Colombian empire, Escobar’s cartel supplied upwards of 80 percent of all cocaine that made it across the border and into the States, and his dramatic rise has proved rich material for countless features and insightful documentaries.
Netflix opted for a slightly different route into Escobar’s criminal empire with Narcos, a gripping, serialized take on the famed kingpins of the ’80s and the brave law enforcers who locked horns with them in the criminal underworld.
It resulted in electrifying entertainment, and it’s little wonder why Netflix has issued the go-ahead for a second season. Set for premiere on September 2, the online giant has now rolled out our first-look trailer (via Independent), accompanied by a handful of moody images that you can feast your eyes on below.

Boyd Holbrook © Flaunt magazine, Fe Pinheiro, photographerI regret to inform you that I cannot begin this story with the sizzling lede I'd intended. But the redacted story, of where Boyd Holbrook called me from and the new project he's working on -- were nevertheless a good reminder that he's been an exciting talent to watch. That's not just because he's so engaging onscreen but because he doesn't want to get stuck in a rut; it's hard to guess where his creative muse will take him next.
So let's jump to our real topic. Boyd Holbrook was calling to discuss his role as DEA officer Steve Murphy in the Netflix series Narcos. The debut season was nominated for Best Drama Series at the Golden Globes and before its second season airs, it's undoubtedly hoping for Emmy to follow suit (balloting closes tomorrow). The story revolves around the drug lord Pablo Escobar (Wagner Moura,...

Netflix apparently enjoys being in business with Pablo Escobar. The streaming giant has renewed Narcos, its latest drama series, which focuses on the drug kingpin and the Medellin Cartel, for a second season. The Hollywood Reporter was the first to break the news. Narcos debuted its 10-episode first season last Friday, Aug. 28. The series stars Wagner Moura as Pablo Escobar, Maurice Compte as Horatio Carrillo, Boyd Holbrook as Steve Murphy, Pedro Pascal as Javier Peña, Joanna Christie as Connie Murphy, Roberto Urbina as Fabio, Ana de la Reguera as Elisa, Danielle Kennedy as Ambassador Noonan, and Stephanie Sigman as Valeria Velez. For Narcos Season 2, Adam Fierro (The Shield) will take over as showrunner for Chris Brancato (Hannibal). "Narcos," Netflix's new drama about the rise of the Colombian drug cartels, opens with a title card explaining, "Magical realism is defined as what happens when a highly detailed, realistic setting is invaded by something too strange to believe. It then adds, "There is a reason magical realism was born in Colombia." This observation — which the "Narcos" creators like enough to have a character repeat in a later episode — suggests a magical realism take on the story of Pablo Escobar and the rest of the Medellin Cartel. Instead, it's a pretty straightforward, if lengthy (the first season has 10 episodes; I've seen the first 7), take on the sordid, tragic business of Pablo and his comrades. It moves at a fast clip and is eminently watchable, even as it feels like a pretty superficial take on the subject. Created by Chris Brancato, Doug Miro, and Carlo Bernard, with the first episode directed...

A brand new trailer has arrived for Netflix’s next original series Narcos, exploring the activities of infamous drug kingpin Pablo Escobar. Set during the druggy excesses of the 1980s, the series delves into the exploits of the kingpin himself and the Medellin cartel, who aided him in funnelling buckets of cocaine in and out of Colombia. This latest preview provides new insight thanks to Boyd Holbrook’s voiceover as one of the DEA agents lumped with the thankless task of bringing Escobar down.
Alongside Holbrook is Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones) as a fellow agent and Wagner Moura in the plum role of the gangster himself. And the blood-soaked, violence-fuelled gangster tip is played heavily here, with more than a few nods to some of the genre’s classics. What’s worthwhile noting while watching the trailer is how little public presence the series has thus far. It’s...
