TV Academy… please don’t let Beverly Goldberg leave this world without an Emmy nomination.
If one asked Wendi McLendon-Covey how she created the lovable and zany mom from “The Goldbergs,” I’d imagine she’d use one of the overbearing matriarch’s famous lines delivered to a random stranger regarding the origins of her three children: “I made these people. Me. I made them with my body.”
With an undeniable “schmoop” factor and countless “huggies,” McLendon-Covey made the unapologetic “smotherer” with her body, heart and soul. Her phenomenal work in the ABC comedy series will surely be one of the finest in sitcom history, and we’re all the better for it.

The cancellation of The Goldbergs didn't come as a big surprise to fans earlier this year.
The series was in its tenth season, and numbers were falling, but given that Wednesday's finale felt more like a season finale, there are questions about whether there was time to craft a conclusion.
Unfortunately, the cast learned the series was done four days after the final episode was actually filmed.
Wendi McLendon-Covey, who played Beverly Goldberg for all ten seasons, opened up about the news in an interview with TV Line.
They told us like four days after we wrapped our season. So, like, two days before our wrap party," the star expressed.
"In retrospect, I guess [it] was the best way for it to happen because if we knew ahead of time, nothing would've gotten done. We would've all been sobbing," McLendon-Covey added.
Had the creatives been given more notice, the ideal finale would have included more closure.

Ten seasons of “The Goldbergs” comes to an end Wednesday night. Ten seasons of ‘80s music, movies and fads. Ten years of Beverly Goldberg’s big, overly sprayed hair that couldn’t move in a tornado, of her bedazzled sweaters, and affectionately calling her kids “schmoopie” or “boopie” while strangling them with death-grip hugs. Ending.
The one-of-a-kind actress who has so endearingly played Bev all those years, Wendi McLendon-Covey, sat down with TheWrap to share what it’s like to say goodbye to her work home after a decade.
“You really have to be grateful for what you have and don’t squander an amazing opportunity and every day just be in the moment and take it all in,” McLendon-Covey said. “And I really, I feel like I did that for most of it. Because things like this don’t come around all the time.

For the past two seasons, The Goldbergs has been led by now-widowed Beverly Goldberg (Wendi McLendon-Covey). Season 10 of "The Goldbergs" will be its last. After 10 years and over 200 episodes, the '80s-set period sitcom has locked in a series finale date of May 3, 2023. Deadline reports that ABC has decided not to renew the show, which is currently the longest-running live-action network comedy on TV.
Created by Adam F. Goldberg based on his own family and his experiences growing up in the 1980s, "The Goldbergs" premiered on ABC on September 24, 2013. Sean Giambrone plays the fictionalized version of Goldberg, with Wendi McLendon-Covey ("Reno 911") starring as the matriach, Beverly. Troy Gentile and Hayley Orrantia have also been with the show since the beginning, and all four actors renewed their contracts last year.
In a statement following the show's cancellation, McLendon-Covey expressed her gratitude to fans, or "Goldnerds," along with the cast and crew, saying:

“The Goldbergs” is coming to an end after 10 seasons on ABC, according to reports. The ’80s-set half-hour comedy was based on creator Adam F. Goldberg’s childhood experiences.
With over 200 episodes and a decade-long run, the Sony Pictures Television series — which follows the title family in a Pennsylvania town — has earned the distinction of being the longest-running live-action network comedy series currently on the air. The season finale, set to air May 3, will now serve as a series ender.
The logline for Season 10 is as follows: “With everyone living back under the same roof and Beverly adjusting to her new role as Grandsmotherer, the Goldbergs pandemonium is crazier than ever. As this latest chapter of life continues to unfold, the Goldbergs remind us that there is no bond greater than family, and there is nothing they can’t handle with each other’s support.”

Even in this era of prestige television on cable networks and streaming platforms, I still watch broadcast television. In fact, most of my favorite television series still live there, one of which is “The Goldbergs” on ABC. As director of the Muslim Public Affairs Council Hollywood Bureau, I have never consulted on the series, but I have always loved the show. Just like the retired “Black-ish” and “Fresh off the Boat,” “The Goldbergs” moves its audience through various issues important to the family’s heritage, with the added touch of being period specific. So subtle, yet so effective.
“The Goldbergs” takes place during my formative years, the 1980s. The latest “Christmas” episode, “Worst Grinch Ever,” where overbearing mother Beverly Goldberg worked frantically to discourage her daughter and son-in-law from exposing their newborn to Christmas, deeply resonated with me. ABC’s “The Goldbergs” will kill off Jeff Garlin’s character Murray, the patriarch of the family, upon its Season 10 return on Sept. 21. The former sitcom star exited the series in December 2021 following the results of an Hr investigation into unspecified on-set behavior.

“The Goldbergs” has been renewed for Season 10 at ABC.
However, questions still remain about how the single-camera comedy series will handle Jeff Garlin’s character, Murray Goldberg, going into the new season.
Garlin exited “The Goldbergs” in December following an investigation into the comedian’s onset behavior after he was accused of misconduct. Variety exclusively reported that Garlin would still be a part of Season 9 through the use of off-camera dialogue pulled from earlier episodes and unused takes, as well as previously shot images of Garlin.
According to an individual with knowledge of the production, official plans for Garlin’s character are forthcoming, but it is likely that he will be written off the show.
“The Goldbergs” remains one of ABC’s more popular shows even this late in its run. Season to date, the show is averaging a 0.8 rating in adults 18-49 and just over 4 million viewers per episode in the Nielsen Live+7 ratings.

But there’s a hitch in getting hitched when the couple consider postponing, Orrantia explains, “so we have time to reconvene and figure out ‘How do we make this wedding the way we really want it?’” Erica copes with the...

ABC’s Big 80’s comedy series The Goldbergs and its 90’s spinoff Schooled are both coming back for another go-round. The network has renewed The Goldbergs for a seventh season, and Schooled for a sophomore run.
We hear the renewal of The Goldbergs, which was never in doubt, was tied with a Season 2 pickup off spinoff, Schooled, which is rumored to be for 13 episodes. Both series come from Sony Pictures TV.
With the two pickups, indie Sony TV will have 7 series on ABC next season, hit medical drama The Good Doctor, The Goldbergs, Schooled, the newly picked-up drama For Life and comedy United We Fall, as well as reality shows Shark Tank and Pyramid.
Negotiations between ABC and Sony TV for both The Goldbergs and Schooled had been going on for months with typical haggling over business terms between an unaffiliated network and studio.
Launched in 2013 and always teeming with period pop-culture references,...

When Wendi McLendon-Covey auditioned for the role as the mother on The Goldbergs, she had no idea what she was in for — Beverly Goldberg is no ordinary mother, she’s infamously a “smother.” But she had no idea just how “smothery” she’d have to be on the show until she saw video of the show’s [...]

Lainey Lewis, consider yourself Schooled on the ABC’s of being a good teacher.
Wednesday’s premiere of the ’90s-set Goldbergs spinoff stars Aj Michalka as Barry Goldberg’s ex-fiancée, who’s gone from college dropout/wannabe rock star to music teacher at her old high school William Penn Academy. (The career detour comes courtesy of credit card debt and broken dreams.) Of course, Lainey doesn’t have the experience or credentials to be an educator, but she does have Beverly Goldberg on her side. The smother basically pesters Principal Glascott (The Goldbergs‘ Tim Meadows) into giving Lainey the job.

Robert Englund, best known for his role as Freddy Krueger, will star on The Goldbergs tonight, bringing back his iconic character for a Halloween special. In the episode called Mister-Knifey Hands, Beverly Goldberg (Wendi McLendon-Covey) doesn’t want Adam Goldberg to watch A Nightmare on Elm Street. However, Jackie’s parents, Jackie played by Rowan Blanchard, allow him to watch the movie. But it is Beverly herself who has a face-off with Freddy Krueger. During the episode, Robert Englund reprises his famous character to teach Beverly a lesson about her son’s relationship with Jackie. Hardcore horror fans may enjoy Englund’s return to the […]

Tomorrow’s episode of The Goldbergs will see the long-awaited return of Freddy Krueger, and it’s already pretty clear that we’re getting the funny Freddy from the sequels, as opposed to the ‘serious’ Freddy from the original A Nightmare on Elm Street.
This new clip posted to the Twitter account of the ‘80s-set sitcom sees Robert Englund as the famed killer conversing with family matriarch Beverly Goldberg, who’s apparently lost her son. And while Freddy isn’t indulging in his usual habit of killing people, he is still being kind of a jerk about the whole situation.
The upcoming Halloween episode– titled “Mister Knifey-Hands” – is the unlikely medium for which Englund will be reprising his most famous role for the first time since 2003’s Freddy vs. Jason. And if this seems like a slightly confusing place to make such a comeback, the actor recently explained that he...

While the return of A Nightmare on Elm Street star Robert Englund to his most famous role would likely be enough to get fans hyped regardless of the context, you do have to wonder how TV sitcom The Goldbergs became the place to deliver our first slice of classic Krueger since 2003’s Freddy vs. Jason.
Fortunately, in an interview with Bloody Disgusting, show creator Adam F. Goldberg was good enough to shed some light on this surprising turn of events, explaining that Englund’s appearance was the result of months of contact with the actor and his manager.
“Convincing Robert Englund to come out of retirement to play Freddy Krueger one last time is a true bucket-list moment for me as a writer,” Goldberg said in a statement sent out this morning. “I’ve been a longtime obsessive fan, collecting Freddy artwork and action figures. It took me months to...

For those of you fans of The Goldbergs who were hoping to one day see a Sixteen Candles-themed episode, it looks like you will see that happen in Season 6!
The Goldbergs is one of those shows that just brings me so much nostalgic joy and happiness. I can relate to it so well because it reminds me a lot of what it was like for me growing up.
I'm also a big fan of John Hughes' and it's awesome to see the series pay tribute to another one of his classic films. The show previously had Weird Science and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off themed episodes.
Sixteen Candles follows Samantha Baker (Molly Ringwald) as she has a terrible birthday experience when everyone forgets that it's her birthday. This will happen to Adam Goldberg in the episode. Actor Sean Giambrone talked about the episode with /Film saying:
