Encyclopocalypse Publications not only brought John Skipp and Craig Spector’s novelization of Fright Night and Jeff Rovin’s novelization of Re-Animator back into print, they’ve also been commissioning new novelizations of older films. Matt Serafini wrote a novelization of the 1980 sci-fi horror film Scared to Death, while Christian Francis wrote novelizations of 1997’s Wishmaster, 1986’s Vamp, and 1985’s Titan Find (a.k.a. Creature). On the more recent side, Bret Nelson wrote a novelization of 2011’s Manborg. A couple months ago, we heard that we’ll be getting a novelization of Attack of the Killer Tomatoes from Encyclopocalypse Publications and author Jeff Strand. And now it has been revealed that Encyclopocalypse Publications also has a novelization of the 1989 Troma release Redneck Zombies (watch it Here) in the works!
The Redneck Zombies novelization is being written by Kristopher Ruffy and Ed Bishop, and the authors have even been kind enough to share some excerpts!

I’ve known author Matt Serafini for well over a decade now, and it’s been fun to watch his career evolve as he blazed his path as a writer in the world of horror fiction. Serafini’s first novel, the werewolf-centered Feral, was published back in 2012, and since then, he’s published a handful of other projects, including Under the Blade, Ocean Grave, Rites of Extinction, Island Red and Devil’s Row (Feral #2).
And since we’re celebrating authors all this week for Indie Horror Month, I thought this would be the perfect time to catch up Serafini to talk about the evolution of his writing career, the inspirations behind a few of his different novels, his love of slashers, and more.
Can you start by talking about the transition of writing about film online and in various magazines to embarking on a career as a horror fiction writer?...

One week after “Motherless Brooklyn” disappointed the box office, Warner Bros. has yet another flop in the form of “Doctor Sleep.” The Mike Flanagan-directed horror film based on Stephen King’s “The Shining” sequel was tracking for a debut in the $25 million range, but its opening weekend came in well below that mark with a dismal $14 million total. While “Doctor Sleep’s” $50 million production is a saving grace, Deadline reports the film is expected to lose between $20 million and $30 million for Warner Bros.
“Doctor Sleep” now joins “The Goldfinch,” “Gemini Man,” and “Terminator: Dark Fate” as one of the fall’s big studio tentpole flops, but that’s not how King wants it to be remembered.
Amidst headlines over the weekend bringing attention to “Doctor Sleep” bombing at the box office, King took to social media to share a defense of the film. Author Matt Serafini encouraged “Doctor Sleep...

We already have RoboCop, Timecop, Maniac Cop, Psycho Cop, Vampire Cop, WolfCop, Scanner Cop, Demon Cop, and Cannibal Cop. So why not add an Amityville Cop to the list of cinematic policemen defying God’s laws? A few nights ago, Matt Serafini came across an IMDb listing for Amityville Cop and tweeted about it as if […]

The slasher subgenre may be on theatrical sabbatical, but that's not stopping author Matt Serafini (Feral) from keeping masked madmen alive and dangerous. Horror fans looking for a little stalk and slash this summer will want to get their hands on Under the Blade, which is out now!
This one comes to us courtesy of the wonderfully warped minds at Severed Press, true purveyors of quality horror fiction. You can grab Under the Blade in both paperback and ebook formats on Amazon.
Those who want the experience of walking into a bookstore and purchasing a copy will have to wait a while longer, as Under the Blade is exclusive with Amazon until late summer.
Serafini's second novel is inspired by the slasher movie subgenre of the 1980s. As such, readers will find familiar elements (a masked maniac, small town secrets, horny teens) arranged in a story that goes beyond the expected trajectory.
