The executive producer stopped by the Today show on Tuesday, where she chatted about the final episodes of the season, which drops on Netflix June 13.
“We’re very secretive about it but I will say it is sexy and surprising in many ways,” Rhimes revealed. “And also, I cried at the end. I found it very moving — and I don’t always cry. So I really got into it. I think it’s a beautiful story.”

Based on Julia Quinn’s Romancing Mister Bridgerton Season 3 of Netflix and Shondaland’s Bridgerton watches the friends-to-lovers romance between Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) bloom. While their book comes fourth in the series after Benedict’s love story, the show has moved their installment up in the order of Bridgerton sibling romances. Francesca’s (Hannah Dodd) love story also intertwines more significantly in the expanded two-part season, with Part 1 releasing May 16 on Netflix and Part 2 June 13.
Ahead of Season 3 Part 1’s launch, showrunner Jess Brownell, producer Shonda Rhimes and author Julia Quinn confirmed that an important scene in which Colin cuts his hand would feature in the show. This scene first sparks Colin’s more-than-platonic consideration of Penelope as she bandages his hand. She had been sneaking a look at his diary and reading his writing about his travels, and he gets angry with her,...

When Bridgerton first broke through, it felt subversive. As sex has disappeared from film, Bridgerton featured some of the most intimate and erotic sequences on television. Placing this eroticism in a period drama gave the series a unique link. It immediately felt closer to Weathering Heights or Dangerous Liaisons. Now, after two seasons and a spin-off, the novelty has partially worn off. However, Season 3 of Bridgerton does not falter due to complacency. Rather, Shondaland and the showrunners overload the season. While Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton finally take the spotlight, their story sags under the weight of carrying more than a half-dozen subplots.

Season 3 of “Bridgerton” promises everything audiences love about the show: gossip, gloves, and games. This season finally focuses on the romance between Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin (Luke Newton) which isn’t an easy road because there’s someone else in the mix, Lord Debling (Sam Phillips). Other storylines include Francesca Bridgerton’s (Hannah Dodd) introduction into society which she doesn’t take too well.
A longtime series writer, Jess Brownell, steps into season three’s showrunner shoes and brings back a mix of old favorite characters into a greater spotlight and new characters to come in and shake up society. Here’s all the actors who are main players and who they’ll be playing in season 3.

Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton entering into a unique arrangement, J.Lo fighting evil artificial intelligence, the roasting of an NFL legend, a retelling of the invention of the Pop Tart, Brooke Shields and Benjamin Bratt at war and John Mulaney’s six-night live comedy event from Los Angeles are some of the big titles hitting Netflix in May.
Debuting on May 3 is Jerry Seinfeld’s directorial debut, Unfrosted. The comedy legend works both sides of the camera for this humorous feature take on the birth of the Pop Tart. The movie is set in 1963 as breakfast cereal giants Kellogg’s and Post compete to become the first company to create a morning pastry. Melissa McCarthy, Jim Gaffigan and Amy Schumer also star, with Hugh Grant more than likely to steal the whole film with a turn as Tony the Tiger.

Polin season gets underway on Bridgerton when the series returns in May, and Netflix has dropped quite the teaser to tide us over.
We’re unsure whether the clip was released to celebrate Valentine’s Day, but before you get too excited, there’s a severe lack of romance. That isn’t very Bridgerton of you, Netflix.
Instead, we see Colin (Luke Newton) getting an icy reception from Penelope (Nicola Coughlan).
The reason?
Penelope overheard the man she’d been pining for telling everyone he’d never court her.
So, she’s shocked when he dares to say he now misses her.

“You miss me, but you would never court me. Is that correct?” she wondered before telling him she had heard everything he said about her.
To her bewilderment, he wants to take the exchange away from the public’s prying eyes.

“Colin and Penelope are underdogs in many ways,” Brownell said. “You have Penelope,...

In keeping with the formula of previous seasons and the Julia Quinn novels they’re adapted from, this coming edition will follow the romantic journey of a new sibling in the elite Bridgerton clan in 19th century England. Season 3 turns to the third eldest sibling, Colin (Luke Newton), and his love interest Penelope (Nicola Coughlan), who is part of the neighboring Featherington family.
In the new clip, debuted at a “Bridgerton” fan event in London, U.K. attended by Quinn and executive producer Shonda Rhimes, Lady P. finally confronts Colin about his reluctance to court her. “Because I embarrass you, of course you would never court me,” she tells him, with tears in her eyes.

Netflix has debuted a new batch of first-look images of Penelope and Colin’s budding romance in season 3 of ‘Bridgerton.’
Season 3 will be based on ‘Romancing Mister Bridgerton,’ the fourth book in Julia Quinn’s series. The third season finds Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) finally giving up on her long-held crush on Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) after hearing his disparaging words about her last season. She has, however, decided it’s time to take a husband, preferably one who will provide her with enough independence to continue her double life as Lady Whistledown, far away from her mother and sisters.
But lacking in confidence, Penelope’s attempts on the marriage mart fail spectacularly. Meanwhile, Colin has returned from his summer travels with a new look and a serious sense of swagger. But he’s disheartened to realize that Penelope, the one person who always appreciated him as he was, is giving him the cold shoulder.

The third season of the hit Shondaland series will have a new showrunner, with Jess Brownell taking over from creator Chris Van Dusen, and will focus on Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) for what is sure to be the will-they-won’t-they romance talk of the ton. Ready for another rendezvous with the ton?
“Bridgerton” is returning to Netflix in 2024, with the third season of the period drama waltzing onto streaming in two parts. The first four episodes will premiere on May 16, and the next four will be available to stream on June 13.
Along with the announcement, Netflix released a video stitching together previously seen footage with TikToks and social media posts from fans eager to revisit the upper crust of Regency-era London.
The Shondaland series will jump right into Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton’s (Luke Newton) romance in Season 3, diverting from the Julia Quinn books it’s based on. Meanwhile, Penelope will have to deal with her rift with Eloise Bridgerton (Claudia Jessie), who, according to Netflix’s description, has found a new friend in an unlikely place. With a growing presence in the ton, Penelope is challenged with keeping her Lady Whistledown alter ego under wraps.

“Bridgerton” has been applauded for diverse casting across age, race, and body types, all while keeping the Regency era love stories as steamy as possible.
The Shonda Rhimes-produced Netflix series especially focused on breaking down racial stereotypes, according to director Cheryl Dunye.
In an interview with Insider, Dunye shared that she had a clear vision for how to capture the frustrations of boxer-turned-gentlemen’s-club-owner Will Mondrich (Martins Imhangbe) onscreen. During the finale, Will confronts schemer Jack (Jack Featherington) for trying to scam patrons. While Jack belittles the club, Will remains calm, which Dunye felt strongly about capturing for the character.
“It was so interesting directing those scenes because — on the page, and from his body and stature, and what we understand about Black men and the way that they are portrayed in film, Black boxer body, etc.— you’re thinking: ‘Use your body, use your strength, and use your power,...

The second season of “Bridgerton” is upon us and the Netflix series has made some changes. This time around, fans follow eldest Bridgerton son Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) as he tries to find a bride. He meets the beautiful Edwina Sharma (Charithra Chandran), but her protective older sister Kate (Simone Ashley) stands in the way. Plenty of the story is similar to the first season, but there is one big person missing: S1 breakout Regé-Jean Page — and his smoldering charisma.
Audiences have gotten used to losing their favorite characters off hit shows: Dan Stevens left his prominent role on “Downton Abbey” after Season 3. But still, when Page announced he was not returning for Season 2, there was a collective gasp of disappointment.

Warning: contains spoilers for Bridgerton season one.

Daphne and the Duke were but one spoke in the show’s fancy wheel of romance, intrigue, scandal and pastries shaped like swans. Last year Netflix brought some semblance of light into a dark 2020 with the release of “Bridgerton,” a Regency-era romance series based off the novels by Julia Quinn. The show was stunningly beautiful, both in its cast and costumes, and led to more than a few embarrassed tweets from viewers who didn’t expect its Nsfw sexiness to be something they couldn’t watch alongside grandma. The over year-long wait for Season 2 has raised the stakes while also making audiences say, “Oh, that’s finally coming back.” All of that feels inescapable while watching this new season.

Netflix has debuted the full trailer for the highly anticipated second season of ‘Bridgerton.’
The second season follows Lord Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey), the eldest Bridgerton sibling and Viscount, as he sets out to find a suitable wife. Driven by his duty to uphold the family name, Anthony’s search for a debutante who meets his impossible standards seems ill-fated until Kate (Simone Ashley) and her younger sister Edwina (Charithra Chandran) Sharma arrive from India.
When Anthony begins to court Edwina, Kate discovers the true nature of his intentions — a true love match is not high on his priority list — and decides to do everything in her power to stop the union. But in doing so, Kate and Anthony’s verbal sparring matches only bring them closer together, complicating matters on both sides. Across Grosvenor Square, the Featheringtons must welcome the newest heir to their estate while Penelope (Nicola Coughlan...

There's a new love story at the wheel of Bridgerton when it returns for its second season on March 25.
Netflix unveiled a full-length trailer for Bridgerton Season 2, and there's a lot to unpack.
At the top of the new footage, Lady Violet Bridgerton gets everyone talking by introducing the competition for her son's heart.
“This is the season the Viscount intends to find a wife,” she says to a packed room.
We are quickly introduced to Kate Sharma and her sister Edwina, who have recently arrived from India.
The trailer teases a complicated romance for Anthony and Kate as they both try to imply they're not into one another.
It makes for many fun scenes, including Anthony tripping over Kate's beautiful dog and falling into a river.
The pair go back and forth in what can only be described as verbal sparring matches.

Dearest gentle readers, did you miss me?
Netflix on Monday unveiled our most extensive look at Bridgerton Season 2 to date, and everyone in the ton should be afraid.
The 60-second spectacular shows many of the characters and their conflicts on the season ahead while teasing that things are about to get worse for them.
The crafty editing shows the real Lady Whistledown in the final shot.
Penelope Featherington is loving this status as the person who doles out these insights and secrets about some of the most powerful people.
Will it come crashing down, or will Penelope continue to hide her true identity from her peers?
It was risky to unmask the omniscient writer on Bridgerton Season 1, but if there's one thing this show has taught us, it's that it plays with expectations.
Bridgerton has been a huge success for the streaming service since its launch in 2020, and the new...
