Protesters Shouted Down Maga Lawmakers Outside Trump Trial Courthouse: ‘Go Home Carpetbagging Fools’
A crowd of anti-Donald Trump protesters repeatedly shouted down a group of Maga lawmakers outside of a lower Manhattan courthouse while a press briefing was taking place.
Last week, several of the former president’s allies made an appearance to rail against Trump’s prosecution in his New York hush money trial and emphasized their devotion to him.
The group included South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, former New York police commissioner Bernie Kerik, ex-Trump administration official Kash Patel, Trump senior adviser Jason Miller and Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-Georgia).
When Trump’s supporters gathered to talk with the press and deliver their statements of support for the former president, protesters in the crowd jeered at and heckled them.
The police tried to keep the protesters at bay, but their sounds drowned out the Maga lawmakers from declaring support for Trump.

Dev Patel’s directorial debut Monkey Man is getting the full physical media treatment in the UK: more details here.
Dev Patel’s directorial debut, Monkey Man, appeared in cinemas earlier this year, having had a bit of a journey to get there. Originally a project that was being backed by Netflix, the streaming giant opted to pull the plug on the movie, leaving the film in limbo. In stepped Jordan Peele, who brought the project in under his umbrella at Universal Pictures, and a film that was originally destined for streaming was upgraded to a full cinema release.
It thus landed in cinemas earlier this year, and now Universal is giving Monkey Man the full physical media treatment as well. The movie has been confirmed for release in the UK on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray.

It’s hard to imagine the Gary, Indiana janitorial community having many savvier political operators than Ray Martin (Kirby Howell-Baptiste). The commercial custodian knows that she’s every bit as smart as the people whose messes she spends her days cleaning up, but she takes bits of joy in adapting to whatever environment she ends up being thrust into. But at the start of “We Strangers,” Anu Valia’s feature directorial debut that seems destined to be one of the breakout hits of SXSW 2024, she finds herself in a puzzling situation that even she can’t quite wrap her mind around.
In the middle of one of her shifts cleaning the office of Dr. Neeraj Patel (Hari Dhillon), the wealthy therapist propositions her to become his personal housekeeper. It’s not immediately clear why he took an interest in her, but she accepts the curious gig with the hope of making a little extra money.

“Unicorns” explores a world not seen much in feature films — the world of “gaysians,” the South Asian gay community in the U.K. The film, directed by Sally El Hosaini (“The Swimmers”) and James Krishna Floyd and written by Floyd, follows Aysha/Ashiq (charismatic newcomer Jason Patel) a queer, Muslim, South Asian drag queen living a double life who sparks a friendship then romance with white, straight mechanic and single father Luke. The film bowed to rave reviews at the Toronto Intl. Film Festival. Protagonist Pictures is handling international sales at AFM.
“Unicorns” is El Hosaini and Floyd’s third collaboration.
“I think mainstream society is very good at lumping very reductive identity labels on all of us. Obviously, in terms of sexuality, but I think in terms of everything in terms of race and gender and I’ve always felt that these things are very gray and very fluid.

Oscar winner Olivia Colman is set to star as a fisherwoman and Dev Patel as her inanimate made-to-order husband in the twisted romance pic Wicker.
Alex Huston Fischer and Eleanor Wilson will direct the indie from a script they adapted based on a short story, The Wicker Husband, by Ursula Wills-Jones. Topic Studios and Tango will finance and produce Wicker, with the cameras set to start rolling next year.
Colman will play a smelly and ridiculed fisherwoman in a seaside village where, fed up with small-minded neighbors, she commissions herself a husband to be made from wicker, who is played by Patel. In an otherwise conservative town, their unconventional romance sparks outrage, jealousy and chaos, the producers say in their film synopsis.
Black Bear will open international sales for Wicker in the American Film Market, while CAA Media Finance and UTA Independent Film Group will handle sales on the U.

Did you know that there are four brand new short films written and directed by Wes Anderson that are adapted from short stories by Roald Dahl and available for you to watch on Netflix right now? It would not surprise me in the slightest if you didn't. I know short films are not the biggest attention grabbers, but this is one of the best and most recognizable American auteurs taking on the work of one of Britain's most beloved authors of the 20th Century. Surely, you would want the word to get out there about this, especially given how successfully Anderson previously adapted Dahl's work with his stop-motion adaptation of "Fantastic Mr. Fox." Alas, Netflix made the plans for these shorts very unclear and definitely did not effectively communicate their release strategy, with one coming out every day for four days. The first short, "The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar,...

Plot: Wes Anderson directs an all-star collection of short films based on the work of Roald Dahl.
Review: What exactly is Wes Anderson’s The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar? When the famed director was first linked with this Netflix adaptation, everyone assumed he would be making a feature, but that’s not what this is. It’s one of four short Roald Dahl shorts Anderson has dropped on Netflix, which, taken together, roughly add up to perhaps a 70-minute (or so) anthology film.
It’s a fun experiment for Anderson and, surprisingly, perhaps his most successful work since The Grand Budapest Hotel. The centrepiece of this loose quadrilogy of shorts is The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar itself, which runs about forty minutes and teams the director with Ben Kingsley, Benedict Cumberbatch, Richard Ayode and Dev Patel for the first time (all of whom play dual roles).

By now you should know what you’re going to be getting when you sit down to watch a Wes Anderson film. His highly stylized worlds, full of muted colors, quirky characters, and deadpan dialogue, have become so distinctive and instantly recognizable it sometimes feels like he’s parodying himself.

Harare, July 22 (Ians) Wicketkeeper-batsman Robin Uthappa struck a fine 31 but his effort went in vain as the Cape Town Samp Army put in an all-around effort to win their match by 16 runs on the second day of the inaugural edition of the Zim Afro T10 tournament at the Harare Sports Club here on Saturday.
Opting to bat first, the Cape Town Samp Army got off to a flyer with Rahmanullah Gurbaz taking the attack to the Harare Hurricanes bowlers. However, a bit of miscommunication between the openers resulted in Cephas Zhuwao being run out for 4 at the start of the third over. Gurbaz though could not kick on after getting a start and was dismissed by Luke Jongwe for 25, while trying to clear the boundary.

Hyderabad, Sep 26 (Ians) When Ravindra Jadeja was ruled out of selection for the T20 World Cup starting in Australia next month due to right-knee surgery, many felt India will be weakened in the bowling department apart from the fiery batting and superlative fielding skills of the all-rounder.
But after India won a highly-contested T20I series against Australia at Hyderabad on Sunday 2-1, Axar Patel has emerged to be a force to reckon with the ball and has filled the void left by Jadeja.
In the recently-concluded three-match series, with the help of tight line and length apart from varying speed and using the crease well, Patel, a like-for-like replacement for Jadeja, claimed eight wickets at an economy of 6.3 in the series to take the ‘Player of the Series’ award.

However, India can still take some positives from Friday’s 8-over slugfest against Australia at the Vidarbha Cricket Association (Vca) Stadium in Nagpur.
Top-most on that list would be the impactful and scintillating innings by skipper Rohit Sharma that set India on course to victory. Then there was the bowling of spinner Axar Patel, the left-arm spinner allrounder who came in as a like-for-like substitute for Ravindra Jadeja, who is out with an injury, who claimed 2-13 from his two overs.
Skipper Rohit Sharma has been batting well at the top of the order, he has not been domineering and at his authoritative best in the last few matches. On Friday, he played an impactful inning, hitting the ball cleanly and to a big distance, attacking the Australian bowlers from the start.

Nagpur, Sep 24 (Ians) Apart from India captain Rohit Sharma’s unbeaten 20-ball 46 guiding India to a series-levelling six wicket win over Australia in eight overs a side affair at Nagpur, left-arm spinner Axar Patel’s brilliant spell was very crucial in giving the hosts an early upper hand.
Patel’s two overs, one of which was bowled in the powerplay, went for only 13 runs. He kept things tight while ratting the stumps of Glenn Maxwell and Tim David and also bowled four dot balls to Matthew Wade, who had two unsuccessful tries at reverse sweeping him before getting a boundary on third attempt.

Nagpur, Sep 24 (Ians) India skipper Rohit Sharma has said he is “quite surprised” with his power-hitting in the second T20 International against Australia at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium here on Friday night, adding that he didn’t quite expect it.
In a truncated eight-overs-a-side match, Rohit Sharma slammed a 20-ball 46, while chasing Australia’s 90/5 as India won by six wickets with four balls to spare. Rohit started the fireworks as he blasted Josh Hazelwood for back-to-back sixes in the first over — the second one a superb effort as he pulled it over the deep square boundary when the bowler chased him to the leg side.
Sharma ended up remaining unbeaten, smashing four boundaries and an equal number of maximums.
During the post-match press conference, Sharma said he himself was pleasantly surprised with his knock. “I was quite surprised as well. I didn’t expect it to go quite as well as that.

Sharma struck a scintillating 20-ball 46 not out that made up for the 2 hours and 30 minutes delayed start as he led from the front, blasting four boundaries and four sixes as India survived a brilliant spell by Adam Zampa (3-16) as the hosts romped to a six-wicket win with four balls to spare.
Though Karthik sealed victory with nine runs needed off the eighth and final over, the 37-year-old veteran from Tamil Nadu said Rohit Sharma’s innings was the better one and set up the victory. Chasing Australia’s 90/5, India scored 92/4 in 7.2 overs to win by six wickets.

Following his Oscar win with Summer of Soul, Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson and his Two One Five Entertainment have signed on for a new nonfiction project about late music producer J Dilla.
Dilla Time will document, according to the project’s description, “the brief life and pervasive and largely uncredited influence of music producer J Dilla.” Dilla worked with some of hip-hop’s biggest names throughout the ’90s and into the early ’00s, including Questlove, as well as Q-Tip of A Tribe Called Quest, Common and Erykah Badu. Other collaborators include Ye, Dr. Dre and Pharrell Williams, and his influence can be heard in the newer generation of hip-hop like Kendrick Lamar, Flying Lotus, Kamasi Washington and Hiatus Kaiyote.
Thompson and Two One Five will reteam on the doc with Summer of Soul producer Joseph Patel, who will produce and co-direct with Darby Wheeler.
