In his song "Guap," rapper Big Sean gives a typical Detroit greeting of "What up doe." And the Motor City hip-hop star continues shouting out his hometown in the music video for the single from forthcoming album "Hall of Fame."
Anticipation has been high since the rapper shut down Woodward Avenue for the video shoot in November, filling the street with crowds, brightly dressed dancers and him leading the parade from a boat. The resulting video, which brings a dose of the tropics to the streets of Detroit, shows off everything from Belle Isle to a liquor store.
He also shows off his love for the Big Three, cruising in a Pontiac Gto convertible. It's about time. When Big Sean (whose real name is Sean Anderson) talked to HuffPost Detroit last year, he said he had given his car to his brother.

In Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (the sequel to 2008’s Journey to the Center of the Earth) the characters are on a quest that takes them to an island located in place where no island is supposed to exist. Sean Anderson (Josh Hutcherson), his stepfather Hank (Dwayne Johnson), helicopter pilot Gabato (Luis Guzman) and Gabato’s niece, Kailani (Vanessa Hudgens) encounter a strange world on the island, one where the plant and animal life grow by rules not familiar to the visitors. The Island Rule, also known as Foster’s Rule, is explained by producer Charlotte Huggins. “It’s a genuine biogeographic theory, [...]...

This week: Disney's big-budget Martian adventure "John Carter" works better at home, where repeated viewings help one keep all the alien characters and their alliances straight.
Also new this week is the action blockbuster "Safe House" with Ryan Reynolds and Denzel Washington, the family adventure "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island," and the Blu-ray debut of the Beatles' "Yellow Submarine."
'John Carter'
Box Office: $73 million
Rotten Tomatoes: 52% Rotten
Storyline: In this PG-13 Disney movie based on Edgar Rice Burroughs' "Barsoom" novels, Taylor Kitsch plays a Civil War Confederate Army captain who discovers a medallion that transports him to Mars. Journey 2: The Mysterious Island
Stars: Josh Hutcherson, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Luis Guzman, Vanessa Hudgens, Michael Caine | Written by Brian Gunn, Mark Gunn | Directed by Brad Peyton
An in-name only sequel (well apart from star Josh Hutcherson) to the 2008 original, Journey 2 follows the adventures of Sean Anderson (Hutcherson), who receives a coded distress signal from a mysterious location where no island should exist. It’s a place of giant creatures, mountains of gold, deadly volcanoes and more than one astonishing secret. Unable to stop him from going, Sean’s new stepfather, Hank (Johnson), joins the quest. Together with a helicopter pilot (Guzman) and his beautiful, strong-willed daughter (Hudgens) they set out to find the island, rescue its lone inhabitant, Sean’s grandfather (Michael Caine) and escape before seismic shockwaves force the island under the sea and bury its treasures forever.
Despite my protestations over the all-too-frequent use of 3D by Hollywood these day,...

Dwayne Johnson is going to see what else is out there besides giant electrical eels and super-advanced submarines.
The "Fast Five" star is in talks to continue replacing Brendan Fraser in the third installment of the incredibly successful "Journey" series of sci-fi adventure films, according to The Wrap.
Johnson appeared as Hank Parsons, a stepfather who's looking to connect with his brooding stepson, Sean Anderson (Josh Hutcherson), in "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island." Their bonding commences when Sean intercepts a distress signal from his grandfather (Michael Caine), who's been stranded on the very island that inspired Robert Louis Stevenson to write "Treasure Island," Jonathan Swift to write "Gulliver's Travels" and, of course, Jules Verne to write "The Mysterious Island."
No word on what the plot of the third "Journey" will involve, but "Journey 2" ended with the family mulling over a copy of Verne's "From the Earth to the Moon," so...

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island
Starring Josh Hutcherson, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Michael Caine
Directed by Brad Peyton
Rated PG
As a movie reviewer, when I sit down and write my thoughts on a particular film, I sometimes need to alter my process. I really can't rate something like Journey 2: The Mysterious Island on the same scale as last year's Drive, or 50/50, or anything with a deep or complicated plot and characters. But as a family film, it does its job really well, and makes it so both kids and adults will be entertained, without alienating either with humor or or questionable situations.
A few years after Journey to the Center of the Earth, we find Sean Anderson (Josh Hutcherson) at odds with his mother for moving them away from his friends, and marrying Hank (Dwayne Johnson). However, after receiving an encoded transmission from his grandfather Alexander (Michael Caine...

In 2008, Josh Hutcherson starred in a rape of the classic Jules Verne novel Journey to the Center of the Earth. This week he returns for sloppy seconds in an almost completely unrelated vehicle, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, aka The Death of Michael Caine's Career. Hutcherson's character Sean Anderson is the only common thread connecting the two films as he again goes in search of a missing family member trapped in a 3D theme-park caricature of a Jules Verne environment.
This time it is Sean's grandfather, perhaps the worst role ever written for Michael Caine, who has sent a secret radio message from Verne's Mysterious Island. Joined unwillingly by his stepfather Hank (Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson), Sean sets out for a weekend round-the-world trip of adventure and male bonding. Along the way they pick up down-on-his-luck pilot and single parent Gabato (Luis Guzman) and his daughter Kailani (Vanessa Hudgens...

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island
Directed by: Brad Peyton
Cast: Josh Hutcherson, Dwayne Johnson, Michael Caine, Luis Guzmán, Vanessa Hudgens
Running Time: 1 hr 34 mins
Rating: PG
Release Date: February 10, 2012
Plot: Sean Anderson (Hutcherson) reluctantly teams up with his mom’s boyfriend (Johnson) to find his grandfather (Caine), who Sean thinks went missing on a mythical island.
Who’S It For? Young boys and girls who are seeking an average adventure movie. You don’t have to love the classic tales of “The Mysterious Island,” “Treasure Island” and “Gulliver’s Travels,” but perhaps there is a chance your child will want to read one of these books after the film.
Overall
First, I need to admit something to you. I didn’t study 2008′s Journey to the Center of the Earth like a sacred scroll. I do remember it being quality 3D for its time, which seems odd to say since...

It seems there’s a pervading opinion that children’s entertainment doesn’t have to be good. Any criticism of a work of art intended for the younger members of our society is almost immediately met with cries of “oh come on, it’s just for kids.” It’s a strange form of hypocrisy given that most parents almost always want the best for their kids, except, apparently, when it comes to films. Films seem to get a pass no matter how shitty they may be. But if your kid’s sick and needs a doctor, you want the best possible doctor to treat them. It’s an unfathomable double standard. There should be no shame in demanding better films for youngsters, and, unfortunately, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is not one of those better films. The film centers on Journey to the Center of the Earth lead Sean Anderson (Josh Hutcherson), who receives a coded message...

Serviceable family fare for the undemanding, Journey 2: Mysterious Island is a dumbed-down but fun update of the 1874 Jules Verne classic and the extremely entertaining Ray Harryhausen film version (with a great Bernard Herrmann score) from 1961. This cheesy new adaptation may give adult viewers a headache but it’s a fast-moving, old-fashioned adventure romp, built for short attention spans and maximum popcorn consumption. More a theme-park ride than a full-blooded movie, it goes down easy enough to recommend.

Taffy. Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, the latest cinematic adaptation of an adventure first told by Jules Verne in 1874, moves as though it's picking its way delicately through a field of taffy, not wanting to leave any impression of its passage. Journey 2 is a producer-driven, family-friendly package. It's a sequel to 2008's Journey to the Center of the Earth, which made more than $240 million worldwide as one of the first movies out of the gate in the new 3D era. Headliner Brendan Fraser is gone, replaced by Dwayne Johnson as Hank Parsons, a former military man and current police detective. The character link between the two installments is Josh Hutcherson as Sean Anderson; Fraser played his uncle in the first film and...

After making a boatload of money—that’s the equivalent to one hundred millions dollars if you didn’t know—Journey to the Center of the Earth was almost guaranteed a sequel. Proving they could bring the fictional worlds of Jules Verne to life and somehow make it relevant to a bunch of kids barely able to put down their Smartphones long enough to read a magazine let alone a dense volume of literature, nothing would stop the studio machine from taking the plunge to Atlantis in Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.

While proof that low expectations are usually a good thing, this sequel to the disappointing 2008 3D adventure film Journey to the Center of the Earth certainly sets off alarm bells from the outset, what with so many of the original cast not electing to return, most prominently star Brendan Fraser. That the rubber-faced funnyman is replaced with the tougher, more charismatic Dwayne Johnson for this second go-around is all too apt, because Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is an altogether leaner, barmier, and funnier outing, pleasantly enjoyable for kids and moderately entertaining for the parents they drag along.
Smartly bounding along at a breathless pace, Journey 2 takes not a second to explain why Sean Anderson (Josh Hutcherson) isn’t adventuring with his uncle this time around, instead briskly setting up an awkward family dynamic in which his mother, Liz (now played by Kristin Davis) is married to a new partner,...

Our thirst for family adventure movies is never quenched, and the promise of yet another involving a mystical, far-off land packed with interesting creatures promises big things. Carving a niche in such a market is Canadian filmmaker Brad Peyton, the debut director of Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore that got mixed reviews in 2010. Tasked with breathing life back into the Journey to the Center of the Earth franchise from 2008, and with the second film simply shortened to Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, Peyton’s shaky foray into family feature filmmaking has been redeemed.
In this adventure, a more mature Sean Anderson (Josh Hutcherson) is back on another quest to find yet another lost relative at the centre of the Earth, his grandfather (played by Michael Caine), after receiving a coded message from him. Reluctantly accepting help from his mum’s enthusiastic new partner, Hank Parsons (Dwayne ‘The Rock...

Animated movies have always been a constant source of entertainment for both children and adults alike, going from strength to strength over the past decade or two, in no small part due to Pixar.
Thanks to the incredibly high bar set by them, other studios have raised their game, resulting in such recent gems as Despicable Me, How to Train Your Dragon and Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs. Each provides a really good balance of humour and excitement, for pretty much all ages.
Live action movies aimed at a younger generation, though, have fared less well over the years, proving to be utterly predictable in terms of quality, with adventure stories even more so. Just look at the awful Will Ferrell version of Land Of The Lost,...

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island may not be in our reader’s demographic, but it may appeal to those few readers who have families. If you have seen the previous trailer you know what you are getting yourself into, which is a family actioner starring some of Hollywood’s biggest names. Sure Josh Hutcherson is the only returning star from the original movie, but its sequel has Luis Guzman, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Vanessa Hudgens, and Michael Caine. As I’ve said, the movie may not be for me, but it looks like the perfect movie for the family.

Coming off domestic and international trailers that hit a couple of months back, Yahoo! has released another preview for Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, the (ever so slightly) overdue sequel to 2008′s Journey to the Center of the Earth.
Though some might be interested in getting another look at the film, anyone who’s seen the first two pieces should know what to expect from the third: expository dump, helicopter crash, CG environments, and CG creatures to go along with it. The cast — made up of Josh Hutcherson, Dwayne Johnson, Michael Caine, Luis Guzmán, and Vanessa Hudgens — all look to be fitting in with this nicely, and yet, that notwithstanding, nothing about it looks “exciting.” I’m not even impugning the film for taking the route it has; I simply find myself disinterested

[1] With all the fuss about this spring's The Hunger Games, I'd almost forgotten all about Josh Hutcherson's other blockbuster franchise, which began in 2008 with Journey to the Center of the Earth. But Hutcherson hasn't, of course, and he'll be reprising his role next month in Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. Hutcherson plays lead Sean Anderson, who teams up with his stepfather (Dwayne Johnson) to explore the fantastical, heavily CGI-ed wonderland of the title. Also along for the ride are a wacky helicopter pilot (Luis Guzman) and his daughter (Vanessa Hudgens), as well as Sean's adventurous grandfather (Michael Caine). Watch the new trailer after the jump. [Yahoo! [2]] The new trailer is fairly similar to the international trailer [3] released back in November, with (I believe) even less emphasis on the teen romance angle. Sadly, despite Johnson and Hutcherson's pre-trailer promises, this trailer appears to be significantly shorter on the pec pops that...

This February WWE wrestler turned action-movie star Dwayne Johnson is looking to pull you out of the winter blahs (or maybe even Oscar blahs) with his latest adventure, the family-friendly Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. In this sequel to the box office hit Journey to the Center of the Earth, Johnson usurps Brendan Fraser as the requisite goofy, rough and tumble hero. While the first Journey followed Trevor and Sean Anderson, an uncle and nephew team played by Fraser and Josh Hutcherson, on a wild rescue mission through the wild lost worlds hidden deep within the Earth, Journey 2 has the adventure-prone Sean on a similar but different mission. This time it's an uncharted island, a missing grandfather (Michael Caine), and his mom's boyfriend (Johnson) who is along for the ride. High School Musical's Vanessa Hudgens co-stars as a convenient and cute love-interest while Luis Guzman brings some additional comic...
