Ben Affleck worked alongside Speed star Sandra Bullock for the first time in the 1999 romcom Forces of Nature. Bullock and Affleck got along well enough, but there were some quirks each of them had that the other couldn’t stand.

In a resurfaced interview with Entertainment Weekly, Bullock rattled off a few things that frustrated her about working with Affleck. The first trait that came to mind was Affleck’s lack of punctuality.
“Ben can never show up anywhere on time,” Bullock said. “When he’s with you he gives you so much attention you feel like a queen, so when he says ‘I’ll call you for dinner’ and you don’t hear from him, you feel like, ‘What did I do wrong?’”

The John Wayne his fans know and love didn't really show up until John Ford's "Stagecoach" in 1939. Though the director and silent Western star Tom Mix saw tremendous potential in the USC football washout when they took him on as a prop boy in the mid-1920s, his screen presence was purely physical. At 6'4", the Iowa-born lad cut a formidable figure on the big screen, but he had miles to go as an actor. If you asked Ford (and many did), he was happy to tell you that Wayne needed a decade's worth of seasoning in Poverty Row Westerns before he could topline a major Hollywood production.
It was unwise to argue with the cantankerous Ford, but Wayne had a shot at undermining his mentor when Raoul Walsh cast the young man as the star of 1930's "The Big Trail," an early, wildly pricey epic that sought to...

Legend has it that Billy the Kid shot and killed 21 men; one for each year of his life. The legendary outlaw's own life was taken sometime after midnight on July 14, 1881, by the reformed lawman Pat Garrett in Fort Sumner, New Mexico. There is still speculation that Garrett, a longtime acquaintance of Billy's (whose birth name was Henry McCarty) never actually shot down his old friend and allowed him to escape in the dark of night.
Garrett was also accused of ambushing McCarty, which led to him hiring a ghost writer named Marshall Upton who detailed Garrett's version in "The Authentic Life of Billy, the Kid." The book has become a great historical reference, but at the time of its release in 1882, it failed to change the popular opinion that Garrett may have acted ungentlemanly the night Billy the Kid was slain.

"Strange Days" is a film that promises a heck of a lot. In 1995, it was touted as a tech-y, grungy neo-noir set nearly five years in the future. Its apocalyptic setting — as well as the fictional tech that immerses characters into the memories of others — only gains relevance as time goes on. "Strange Days" predicted so many features of our present-day dystopia: the rise of social media (and the parasocial addictions that come with it), tech voyeurism, the perpetuity of police brutality, body cam exploitation, and smartphone journalism. At the same time, it accurately dramatizes the Y2K hysteria that would come to a head in the late '90s.
It's impressive enough that the Kathryn Bigelow-directed film precludes most of the above by at least five years, but it's made all the more interesting with the knowledge that James Cameron — who developed the story and co-wrote the screenplay...

Before Batman, Bond, and seemingly everything else got the gritty reboot treatment in the early 2000s, Hollywood tried a similar thing with none other than Robin Hood. Unfortunately, 1991's "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" didn't quite manage to pull off its attempt at a rebrand of the classic English hero. In fact, these days it's remembered more for Kevin Costner's magnificent mullet and what co-star Alan Rickman called its "glorious mixture of accents."
That said, it's not like there's nothing to love about "Robin Hood". The score's not bad and it was a cool idea to try to reimagine Robin Hood for the '90s. It just didn't really work out in the end, with the movie failing to garner any critical praise of note despite raking in an impressive £390 million at the global box office.
But if there's one undeniably great thing about the movie, it's Rickman, whose...

It's always interesting to see what happens when a director tries their hand at a film unlike any they've made before or since. Consider David Fincher's "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," a whimsical romantic fantasy drama far removed tonally from the grim thrillers and dark character studies the masses are accustomed to seeing from the "Se7en" and "Social Network" helmer.
John Carpenter's "Starman" is his "Benjamin Button," at least in that respect. There are times the 1984 sci-fi film recalls the director's down-and-dirty action flicks, just as there are visuals and scenes that speak to his horror oeuvre. But for the most part, "Starman" plays out as a love story by road movie, albeit where one of the leads is a visitor from a distant planet. That would be the titular character, a cordial extra-terrestrial being who crash-lands on Earth after their spacecraft is shot down by...

In these rare excerpts of a 1976 interview, Bobbie Wygant discusses John Wayne's career with the Duke himself. Wayne discusses being in on the advent of widescreen movies with the 1929 production of "The Big Trail" and also talks about the background of making his latest (and final) film "The Shootist", going into some details about how he wanted to make significant changes to the source novel. It's all rather tantalizing and we wish the entire interview was available.
