Earlier this week, we learned that Adam Wingard will no longer direct the Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire sequel. He previously helmed Godzilla vs. Kong, but cut his teeth on smaller action movies like You're Next and The Guest.
Today, we bring word from scooper @MyTimeToShineH that Wingard is in the running to helm Spider-Man 4 for Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures.
His potential hiring would almost certainly divide opinions, though it's worth noting that Wingard currently has plans to helm a new action thriller, Onslaught, which is prepping for a fall shoot. That alone likely takes him out of the running.
The director also seems far more interested in finally bringing Thundercats to the big screen.
"Simon [Barrett] and I are still actively working on the script," he said earlier this year. "We finished our last draft basically right when I was going into production on [Godzilla x...

When Bad Boys for Life came out in January 2020, it ended a 17-year wait for the third film in the franchise, which launched in 1995 with Bad Boys and continued in 2003 with Bad Boys II. It’s only taken a relatively brief four-plus years to get the latest entry in the series, Bad Boys: Ride or Die, to the screen—but it’s been a tumultuous stretch, to say the least.
“The hope is definitely that everything will be a little bit smoother from now on,” co-director Adil El Arbi, returning to the franchise with directing partner Bilall Fallah after taking over for Michael Bay on the third film, tells Den of Geek ahead of the movie’s arrival. “Because also in those last four years, five years, we have learned so much.

"The Godfather Part III," "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines," "Jaws 3-D," "Superman III" ... there are tons of examples of film trilogies that feature a dramatic drop in quality in their third entries. "Beverly Hills Cop III" definitely belongs on that list; the 1994 stinker, directed by John Landis, plopped Eddie Murphy's beloved fish-out-of-water Detroit cop character Axel Foley back in Beverly Hills, but this time, it takes place largely in a ... theme park. Thanks to scripting issues and scheduling problems, the film also broke up the beloved trio of Murphy, John Ashton, and Judge Reinhold, the latter of whom play Taggart and Rosewood, the Beverly Hills police officers who go from being Axel's pesky babysitters in the first movie to lifelong pals and de facto partners in the second. Ashton dodged a bullet by not appearing in the third film at all, and that movie's lousy script didn't do...

With the San Diego Comic-Con and D23 fast approaching, it surely won't be too much longer until we get a long-overdue slate update from Marvel Studios.
Some changes are bound to have been made following a return to quality over quantity and there are still big gaps in the Multiverse Saga which need to be filled.
It's looking like Young Avengers will be one of those projects and, according to scooper @MyTimeToShineH, that will be led by Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop/Hawkeye and Iman Vellani's Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel. The Marvels' post-credits scene set the stage for them to take charge of the team, so we're not exactly shocked.
As for who will join them, your guess is as good as ours...there are plenty of potential candidates, though.
Next up is Spider-Man 4. Earlier today, we told you that Venom is expected to play a minor role in the movie.

Spider-Man 4 is one of Marvel Studios' most highly anticipated movies but, as we write this, it has no release date or even a confirmed director.
According to Jeff Sneider, Marvel and Sony Pictures are developing a new trilogy together, with the intention being for one director - or a directing duo - to work on all three instalments.
He says it's unclear whether shooting really will begin this fall because Kevin Feige is taking his time choosing a filmmaker and is fully in charge of the creative process. That bodes well for Spider-Man 4 after it was previously reported he might be a little more hands-off due to having so many other commitments in getting the MCU back on the right track.
We've already heard a few different names for the movie, but Sneider makes a point of saying that Feige was particularly impressed with Adil El Arbi and...

Marvel Studios brought the famous friendly neighborhood web-slinger over to the MCU back in Captain America: Civil War in 2016. Ever since then, it has been one magnificent ride with some shocking yet exhilarating multi-versal events. While Tom Holland aced the elements required to play Peter Parker and Spider-Man, Marvel Studios did equally well when it came to storyline, narrative, and action sequences.

Bad Boys apparently really are for life as it seems that this action-packed franchise isn’t ending anytime soon with Sony Pictures’ Bad Boys 4 set to reach theatres in just a couple months. This series, centered on detectives Mike Lowery and Marcus Burnett of the Miami Police Department, has already produced three blockbuster films that have grossed over $840 million as well as a spinoff television show, L.A.’s Finest, making it one of the most successful buddy-cop action-comedy series in history. The most recent film, Bad Boys for Life, was one of the last movies to hit theaters before the pandemic shut them all down and was able to be a critical and box office success – so why would the franchise stop now? Will Smith and Martin Lawrence (Lowery and Burnett) are back for the fourth film, and this is music to the ears of fans of the series since...

Martin Lawrence and Will Smith return for the fourth Bad Boys film, Bad Boys: Ride Or Die. Here’s the trailer for the film.
Nearly 30 years after the original film landed, Bad Boys: Ride Or Die is headed for cinemas in a few weeks’ time.
The previous film in the series. Bad Boys For Life was the highest-grossing film of 2020, although of course quite a lot of things happened in 2020 which meant that as statistics go, that one doesn’t mean all that much. It was the lowest-grossing number one film since the mid-90s.
The future of the film was up in the air ever since Will Smith severely damaged his public image following the slap incident at 2022’s Oscars ceremony. While the film did eventually find a path to production we imagine that the chances of a Chris Rock cameo are probably pretty low.
Here’s the synopsis:...

The boys are officially back and badder than ever. As a shining example in the increasingly popular genre known as "Dudes rock" cinema, it was only a matter of time before Sony brought back the buddy-cop "Bad Boys" franchise starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. 2020's "Bad Boys For Life" felt like a fitting enough swan song for our favorite dynamic duo, even without the presence of Michael "Master of Bayhem" Bay in the director's chair. But newcomers Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (known collectively as Adil & Bilall) capably channeled the spirit of the original two movies and proved there was still a little more juice to be squeezed out of this action series. Fast forward a few years, a pandemic, and one deeply unfortunate Oscars controversy later, and the quartet of Smith, Lawrence, and Adil & Bilall are gearing up to do it all over again.

They’re back again.
Four years after “Bad Boys For Life,” Will Smith and Martin Lawrence have teamed again for “Bad Boys: Ride or Die.” Sony released the first trailer for the fourth film in the “Bad Boys” franchise on Tuesday, nearly two years to the day that Smith slapped Chris Rock during the 2022 Oscars before Smith later won Best Actor.
Set for release in June, “Bad Boys 4” finds its title heroes embroiled in a conspiracy that leaves them as fugitives from justice following the death of their beloved leader, Captain Howard (Joe Pantoliano). The new film comes from directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (credited simply as Adil & Bilall), the duo behind “Bad Boys For Life” who have also directed episodes of “Ms. Marvel” and “Snowfall.” In addition to Smith, Lawrence, and Pantoliano, the new film also stars Tiffany Haddish, Eric Dane, Ioan Guffudd, Vanessa Hudgens, and Alexander Ludwig.

Sony is seemingly asking Lionsgate, “Whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do now that Bad Boys 4 is coming for you?” It was recently reported that the John Wick spin-off, Ballerina, starring Ana De Armas, will be undergoing extensive reshoots, which will push the release date back from June 7, 2024 to June 6, 2025. According to John Wick star Ian McShane, “They’re new-shooting for Ballerina. You know, it’s like, they’ve gotta protect the franchise. […] And they wanna make it better cause they have to protect [the franchise].” However, Lionsgate, in need of a summer release, would move The Crow reboot, which comes from filmmaker Rupert Sanders and stars Bill Skarsgård, into Ballerina‘s original release date.
Deadline now reports that Sony is gunning for the same release date for their Will Smith and Martin Lawrence buddy-cop action-comedy sequel. Bad Boys 4 was originally slated for a premiere on June 14, but after the news...

Sony’s latest Bad Boys sequel had a theatrical release date of June 14, 2024. But the studio really wants June 7, and that’s where it’s now dating the Will Smith-Martin Lawrence reteam.
News of the change Monday comes in the wake of Lionsgate pushing its John Wick spinoff Ballerina a year, from June 7, 2024 to June 6, 2025. The Santa Monica-based studio backfilled the date with its reboot of The Crow from filmmaker Rupert Sanders.
However, Sony will have Imax and PLFs for Bad Boys 4, which is still awaiting a title.
Bad Boys for Life filmmakers Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah return to direct Smith and Lawrence for the latest installment off a screenplay by Chris Bremner. Producers are Jerry Bruckheimer, Smith and Doug Belgrad. Executive producers are Lawrence, James Lassiter, Chad Oman, Mike Stenson, Barry Waldman and Jon Mone.

Remember Batgirl? It’s impossible to forget since it was a highly public film that was canceled before it even got the chance to see daylight. There were pictures of the film here and there, but Warner Brothers opted to write off the movie as a tax credit. Batgirl had a top notch cast – Leslie Grace, Brendan Fraser, J.K Simmons, and Michael Keaton. Bad Boys For Life directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah were the ones behind the project. There’s no telling how bad the film truly was since no one but the cast and crew saw Batgirl. However,...

One cannot understate the impact Martin Brest's crime comedy "Beverly Hills Cop" had on popular culture when it was released in 1984. Between "Cop," the 1983 comedy "Trading Places," and Walter Hill's 1982 buddy film "48 Hrs.," Eddie Murphy was suddenly one of the largest and most striking movie stars in the world. His glib delivery and willingness to be crass rattled cinemas to an astonishing degree, and audiences began flocking to see Murphy in just about anything. Brest's film was made for a mere $13 million and would rack up about $316 million worldwide. It was also nominated for Best Original Screenplay at the Academy Awards.
In the film, Murphy played Axel Foley, a Detroit-based detective who says he's going on vacation to Beverly Hills, but who is secretly investigating the death of a friend, unbeknownst to his bosses. The film involves a lot of Murphy's bafflement at the posh, unusual, upscale...

Will Smith talked about the sequel to I Am Legend and shared much insight into his state of mind, past and future on Saturday while appearing at the third Red Sea International Film Festival.
The actor, who said he used to think he would become a scientist because he always enjoyed figuring things out, used that as a segue to poke a bit of fun at himself while appearing at the event, held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. “I love puzzles, I love problems. Yeah, so I started making my own problems. Life is going too well.”
That was read in the room as a reference to the 2022 Academy Awards ceremony, where he won the best actor Oscar for his role in King Richard, but infamously slapped host Chris Rock onstage after a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s shaved head. Controversy ensued, and Smith apologized and expressed his regret.

Though the Red Sea Film Festival will feature a slew of films from the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region – including 11 feature films from Saudi Arabia – there is a rich roster of international fare set to launch locally from Jeddah.
Kaleem Aftab, the festival’s director of international programming, says they received lots more submissions for this year’s third edition. He is particularly proud of the presence in competition of Indian-born auteur Tarsem Singh’s romancer “Dear Jassi,” the first film set in India by the flamboyant director of “The Cell,” and of Japanese master Ryusuke Hamaguchi’s Venice prizewinner “Evil Does Not Exist.”
Peppered through various Red Sea sections are the Mena region premieres of other high-profile titles such as Sofia Coppola’s “Priscilla”; Belgian-based Moroccan duo Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah flashy third feature “Gangsta”; British director James Marsh’s biographical film about Irish playwright Samuel Beckett...

Warner Bros Discovery boss David Zaslav isn’t backing down over the decision to basically ‘delete’ the Batgirl film in 2022.
Uh-oh. Every time the Batgirl bonfire looks like it’s about to go out, along comes someone to pour a few more gallons of fuel onto it. In this case, once again, it’s the divisive boss of Warner Bros Discovery, David Zaslav.
The brief story so far. The movie Batgirl was coming towards the end of post-production when the decision was made to can the movie. Test screenings had been positive, but Warner Bros nonetheless took the decision to effectively delete the pretty much completed movie, and take the tax write-off money instead.
Leslie Grace was in the lead role, with Brendan Fraser, Michael Keaton and J K Simmons in supporting roles.

Netflix posted the first photo (below) of Eddie Murphy’s long-awaited return as Axel Foley in the fourth Beverly Hills Cop.

What separates Loki from the rest of Marvel’s Disney+ series is its bold and inspired choices across every department, and chief among them is Natalie Holt’s genre-bending score.
The British composer brought the otherworldly sound of the theremin back to the fore, calling to mind the sci-fi and genre films of the ‘50s. She also created instant emotion through the nyckelharpa, a Nordic instrument that has both fiddle and harp qualities. The result of Holt’s efforts has led to one of Marvel’s most memorable scores, if not the most, as well as two Emmy nominations and two high-profile jobs as the composer of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Batgirl.
On Loki season two, Holt has doubled down on experimentation alongside her thereminist, Charlie Draper. She even cameoed as one of the band members who performed in the 1890s beer hall that director Kasra Farahani’s “1893” recreated. In between setups,...

Movies are one of the most common forms of entertainment nowadays. However, the audience is rarely aware of how difficult the process of making a movie is, and it can potentially even endanger the people present on the movie set. Although the action sequences and stunts are usually done by trained professionals, and the studios assure us of good security measures on movie sets, the accidents are still happening, unfortunately.
In the history of Hollywood, many movies remained infamously known for tragedies and unfortunate situations that happened on the movie set. We still remember when Brandon Lee was fatally wounded while filming ‘Crow’ back in 1993. Joi Harris, a stuntwoman, tragically died while performing a motorcycle stunt while filming ‘Deadpool 2,’ and let’s not forget the most recent tragic event when Halyna Hutchins, a cinematographer, was shot dead by a prop gun on the set of ‘Rust.’

Bollywood’s Jawan and star Shah Ruhk Khan livened up a slow specialty market, grossing close to $2.5 million in 776 locations in week two for a cume close to $12.2 million. The Yash Raj actioner is no. 6 at the domestic box office.
Its weekend split was $694,724k Fri.; $1.024m Sat,; $775k Sunday as Jawan races to records in India, including the top box office opening last week for a Hindi film. Commentators are noting that the dubbed Telugu and Tamil versions – a key to box office in India, and Stateside — are also raking in more than they have for any other Hindi film. Indian films continue to be a gift to U.S. exhibitors as loyal audiences who follow release schedule closely turn out weekly and in force for the films that open day and date. A breathlessly awaited, well-reviewed movie there is the same here.
Sony notable Dumb Money by Craig Gillepsie, banked a projected $217k for the first leg of three-step platform release in eight theaters across six markets. The film captures the meme-stock frenzy that saw scrappy retail traders flood onto social media, egging each other on to buoy GameStop and other shares in dramatic showdown with traditional Wall Street players. It made $92K Friday, $74K Saturday and an estimated $50K Sunday for a per-screen average of $27,080. A decent number since there was zero publicity due to the actors’ strike by very marketable stars from Pete Davidson to Seth Rogen, to Paul Dano, and that hurts. Gillepsie did some Q&As in NYC and LA.
The R-rated film that premiered to strong reviews at TIFF is banking on word of mouth as it expands to 200+ screens next weekend and goes wide September 29. No social data but anecdotal reports from theaters of positive reactions from advance screenings, and high audience scores.
The original release strategy was a four-step platform that would likely have garnered significantly higher PSAs on fewer screens this weekend. But Sony condensed the plan and skipped a step to leave a few weeks for Dumb Money before the mid-October opening of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour – an event that’s hit $65 million in presales, with a $100 million opening within reach.
Paul Dano in ‘Dumb Money’
Other specialty openings: From Roadside Attractions, Camp Hide Out is posting an estimated three-day gross of $510,160 on 848 screens for a PSA of $602.
The Inventor stop-motion animation from Blue Fox Entertainment grossed an estimated $201k+ from 700 runs. From flying contraptions, war machines, and studying cadavers, Leonardo da Vinci takes on the grand meaning of life itself with the help of French princess, Marguerite de Nevarre. Directed by Jim Capobianco, the film stars Stephen Fry, Marion Cotillard, Daisy Ridley, Matt Berry & Gauthier Battoue.
Limited release: Documentary Invisible Beauty from Magnolia Pictures grossed $10,500 at the Film Forum. Expanding on Friday to LA, Chicago, Washington, DC and Atlanta. Fashion revolutionary Bethann Hardison looks back on her journey as a pioneering Black model, modelling agent and activist.
Kino Lorber’s release of Radical Wolfe grossed $8,270 at IFC Center. Based on bestselling author Michael Lewis’s 2015 Vanity Fair article, the documentary traces the author’s rise from a journalism pioneer to bestselling novelist and celebrity whose singular voice and iconic white suit made him one of the most recognizable literary figures of all time. Expands to LA, Toronto and additional markets Sept. 22.
Thriller Rebel from Yellow Veil Pictures grossed $6,500, also at IFC Center. By Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. it expands to LA’s Nuart next weekend. A young man leaves Belgium to help war victims in Syria, but once there is stranded and forced to join Isis. His younger brother back home becomes easy prey for radical recruiters who promise a reunion.
Oscilloscope’s Canary grossed $8,350 on three screens. The distributor — in partnership with Rei Co-Op Studios and Boardwalk Pictures — presents the true story of Dr. Lonnie Thompson, the world’s greatest living climatologist, in NYC, LA and Columbus, Oh. Expanding Wed. nationwide to over 140 theaters.
Noting Oscilloscope’s CatVideoFest 2023 has crossed half a million theatrical in week seven, grossing $30k on 20 screens for a cume of $502k. It’s a new best for the event that celebrates all things feline and which Oscilloscope has handled since 2019. The compilation, which has also raised over $50k for cats in need, will continue to add new engagements throughout the fall.
Holdovers: Variance Films’ expanded Amerikatsi, Armenia’s official Oscar submission for Best International Feature, grossed an estimated $91,932 on 19 screens in week two for a per-screen average of $4,839 and a new cume of $167,697.
Also Noting Bottoms from MGM is heading towards $10 million in week four. Emma Seligman’s rauchy teen comedy starring Rachel Sennott and Ayo Edebiri has successfully reached a younger movie-going audience and racked up another $1.2M on its way to a current estimated cume of $9.87M.
And A24’s low-budget horror Talk To Me, ditto with younger fans, is still on 570 screens, where it grossed $567,472 this weekend for a cume of nearly $47 million since it opened July 28.
