Gad Elmaleh (fan of Nanni Moretti and Woody Allen films) on the set of Stay With Us (Reste Un Peu) with his parents
Stand-up comedian Gad Elmaleh, the director and star of Stay With Us (co-written with Benjamin Charbit) plays a version of himself who explores a lifelong fascination with the Virgin Mary. After living in America, Gad returns to Paris, where he is welcomed by his parents, played by the actor’s actual mother and father, Régine and David, his sister Judith and old friends, which include the actor Roschdy Zem (star of Arnaud Desplechin’s Oh Mercy! with Léa Seydoux and Sara Forestier). Cardinal Jean-Marie Lustiger, Simone Veil, and Henri Bergson get a shoutout as Gad reflects on some wide-ranging questions on faith as he meets with a priest (Father Barthélémy played by Nicolas Port), a rabbi (Pierre-Henry Salfati), a nun (Catherine Thiercelin), a theologian (Frédéric Lenoir), and...

New Line Cinema has landed the Chris Farley biopic starring Paul Walter Hauser, in what Variety is told was a highly competitive situation.
The film, which has the blessing of the Farley family, will mark actor Josh Gad’s directorial debut, with Lorne Michaels and Erin David producing via Broadway Video.
Oscar and Emmy nominees Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber will write the screenplay based on the New York Times best-selling biography “The Chris Farley Show: A Biography in Three Acts” by Tom Farley Jr. (Chris Farley’s brother) and Tanner Colby.
Hauser, an Emmy, Critics’ Choice, and Golden Globe Award-winning actor for his role in “Black Bird,” will next be seen in Disney and Pixar’s “Inside Out 2” as the voice of Embarrassment. He will then appear opposite Matt Damon in Apple Original Films’ “The Instigators,” helmed by Doug Liman. He’s also set to lead Tony Tost...

Though the tide of late has turned more towards a Bohemian Rhapsody-powered focus on biopics of musicians, there is always room for other entertainers with particularly compelling stories. One such example is Saturday Night Live staple-turned-film comedy actor Chris Farley, whose star burned bright before it was snuffed out decades too early by excess and addiction. Paul Walter Hauser is now attached to star as Farley in the film to be directed by actor/producer and now filmmaker Josh Gad.
Farley, who initially had seemed destined to join his father in the oil business, was lured away by the thrill of performing, eventually ending up at Chicago's Second City improv troupe (which he joined the same day as fellow future comedy icon Stephen Colbert) and from there was recruited by Lorne Michaels for SNL.

A biopic about the life of the late “Saturday Night Live” star Chris Farley is in the works, IndieWire has confirmed.
Emmy-winner Paul Walter Hauser is attached to star as Farley, and Josh Gad would direct the project. “SNL” producer Lorne Michaels is producing the feature biopic via his Broadway Video production banner. Gad, the Broadway star and “Frozen” actor, would make his feature directorial debut on the film.
Right now the project is just at the package stage and being presented to interested buyers looking to make it, but it surely will be an in-demand package that could go quickly and make this movie a reality sooner rather than later. It also helps that the Farley family has given its blessing to the project.

Some years ago, Josh Gad received an out of the blue email from Frank Miller, someone whom he had never met.
The legendary comic creator behind The Dark Knight Returns and Sin City asked Gad, the stage and screen actor who is also the voice of Olaf in Disney’s Frozen movies, if he would be interested in writing a comic book. Miller believed Gad would be good at it.
“I was petrified,” Gad tells The Hollywood Reporter. “I didn’t think I was capable of it. Conceptually, I didn’t have a way into it and make personal and create something worthy of people’s time.” He politely replied to Miller and declined his invitation.
In the intervening years, however, Gad found his voice, so to speak. Though Miller is not involved, the actor now has co-written a comic that will be published by indie powerhouse Dark Horse Comics starting June.

The current proxy war at Disney has been heating up in the past few months, with more people announcing support for the side that matches with their ideas for the future of the company. While Nelson Peltz has been getting support from outsiders, many notable individuals including Abigail Disney and George Lucas announced that they supported Iger (despite both voicing their grievances with him in the past).
Now, another voice has lent their support to Bob Iger, that being actor and comedian Josh Gad. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito had a mini Twins reunion for State Farm’s Super Bowl commercial. However, the former co-stars were meant to reunite sooner in the nixed Twins sequel, Triplets.
Following the viral ad’s release, Josh Gad, who had originally been tapped by director Ivan Reitman to co-write the movie with former writing partner Ryan Dixon, decided to give a preview of the script the two of them penned on Wednesday.
He wrote, “One of my favorite commercials from this past weekend’s Sb was the reunion of Arnold and Danny for State Farm. (Welcome to Animation Celebration, a recurring feature where we explore the limitless possibilities of animation as a medium. In this edition: "Central Park.")
After three phenomenal seasons, Apple TV+ has unceremoniously canceled one of the best original programs on the platform, the animated musical sitcom "Central Park." Created by star Josh Gad with Loren Bouchard and Nora Smith of "Bob's Burgers" fame, Gad confirmed the cancellation on Instagram's attempt at Twitter, Threads, after a fan inquired about season 4. "Sadly, it's done," he wrote. Apple subsequently confirmed the cancellation to The Hollywood Reporter. This news is a devastating loss for fans of animation, because "Central Park" was easily one of the best new animated sitcoms in years. While sharing the Bento Box Entertainment animation style of "Bob's Burgers" and "The Great North," "Central Park" stood out with its dynamic musical numbers and boasted one of the most impressive celebrity voice casts ever put to television.

Apple is not moving forward with another season of “Central Park,” Variety has confirmed.
Previously, series star Josh Gad, who also serves as EP and writer, shared the news over the weekend on social media, telling fans “Sadly, it’s done” when asked about the show’s return.
The animated comedy follows “Owen Tillerman and his family live an unconventional life in New York’s bustling Central Park, which Owen manages; now, they’ll have to fend off a wealthy hotel heiress who wants to turn the park into condos,” per the series description.
Season 3, which was released on Sept. 9, picked up with Kristen Bell in a new role on the show. Bitsy continued her pursuit to buy the park as Owen took on a new promotional campaign to make more people fall in love with it. Meanwhile, Paige wound up busier than ever after landing her first book deal.

It’s sad news for fans of Central Park as Apple TV+ has canceled the animated musical comedy series after three seasons. The cancelation was confirmed by the show’s co-creator, Josh Gad, who also voices the character of Birdie. “Sadly, it’s done,” Gad revealed on the social media app Threads after a fan asked if the show would be returning. Central Park, created by Gad, Loren Bouchard, and Nora Smith, revolves around a family living in Central Park in New York City who must save it from a greedy land developer. The events of the series are narrated by Gad’s Birdie, a busker at the park who acts as a sort of guardian angel to the main characters. The show premiered in May 2020 and has aired 39 episodes across three seasons, with the most recent season wrapping up its now-series finale on November 18, 2022. The first season of genre-bending rom-com series “Wolf Like Me“ introduced the charming meet-cute between single dad Gary (Josh Gad) and tragic loner Mary (Isla Fisher) with a horror twist: Mary happens to transform into a wolf every full moon. Series creator/director/writer Abe Forsythe (2019’s Little Monsters) explores the next chapter in the couple’s relationship in Season 2, doubling down on the charm and the werewolf complications in the process.
After surviving a harrowing encounter last season that saw Mary, in wolf form, save Gary and his daughter Emma (Ariel Donoghue) from death in the Outback, the trio have settled into a comfortable, content life as a newfound family unit. But their familiar bliss is short-lived with the arrival of a new relationship complication: Mary is pregnant.

Actor Josh Gad had to pass on a weekend Broadway performance due to a medical emergency. He posted a video on his Instagram addressing the situation.
“Unfortunately, I will not be at this afternoon’s performance of Gutenberg. I’m dealing with a medical emergency that despite telling my doctors I wanted to wait till Monday to address, they thought needed to be addressed immediately,” he wrote.
Gad later posted a positive update on his situation.
“Good News,” the caption read. “Thanks to the phenomenal team at Lenox Hill, I was able to be diagnosed and treated in record time for some lower abdominal issues I’ve been having. With their blessing, I will be back in the show this evening.”
Gad also posted a message on his Instagram story thanking his understudy, Russell Daniels, for taking his place, commending him for “[blowing] the roof off.”

Theater’s biggest stars converged on Monday morning for Variety‘s annual Business of Broadway Breakfast, fortifying themselves with coffee and frittatas on a rare day off, to celebrate a new season of plays, musicals and revivals.
The event, which was presented by City National Bank, included discussions with Daniel Radcliffe, Jonathan Groff and Lindsay Mendez. They are taking their acclaimed Off-Broadway production of “Merrily We Roll Along” to the Main Stem and hoping to redeem the Stephen Sondheim musical, which flopped when it debuted in 1981. There was also a discussion with Josh Gad and Andrew Rannells, who have reunited for the zany “Gutenberg! The Musical!,” more than a decade after “The Book of Mormon” made them household names. And a panel of prominent producers such as Greg Nobile, Kristin Caskey, Patrick Catullo, Leslie Odom Jr. and Fiona Rudin, discussed the challenges of mounting a show in a business with little margin for error.

The second season of Peacock’s Wolf Life Me romantic dramedy has a pregnant Mary, played by Wedding Crasher’s Isla Fisher, giving birth to a possible werewolf pup baby as her twisted romance with an eternally vulnerable Gary (Josh Gad) continues.
The trailer for the new season dropped Wednesday.
And that’s not the only question, among Mary’s many secrets, looming over the season two. Her former professor Anton, played by Edgar Ramirez, arrives on the scene and it’s not long before he makes a move on Mary.
Wolf Like Me in its first season starred Gad as a widowed father living in Australia and struggling with grief as he raises his daughter (Ariel Donoghue). Mary (Fisher) has a secret she can’t share with anyone, even as the universe seemed to bring her and Gary together.

In 2020, while the pandemic dominated headlines, entertainment news brought a bit of sunshine as the coveted star of such classic comedies as Ghostbusters, Spaceballs, and Little Shop of Horrors, Rick Moranis, was set to make his return to acting after taking an extended break from his career to spend time raising his children after his wife passed. One of the most beloved family movies that Moranis also iconically starred in is the 1989 Disney film Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, which was brought to life by Jumanji director Joe Johnston. Josh Gad offered an update on the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids reboot, Shrunk, in which he was set to co-star alongside original franchise star Rick Moranis.

Hollywood writers picketing to preserve pay and job security outside major studios and streamers braced for a long fight at the outset of a strike that immediately forced late-night shows into hiatus, put other productions on pause and had the entire industry slowing its roll.
The first Hollywood strike in 15 years commenced Tuesday as the 11,500 members of the Writers Guild of America stopped working when their contract expired.
The union is seeking higher minimum pay, more writers per show and less exclusivity on single projects, among other demands — all conditions it says have been diminished in the content boom of the streaming era.
“Everything’s changed, but the money has changed in the wrong direction,” said Kelly Galuska, 39, a writer for “ The Bear ” on FX and “Big Mouth” on Netflix, who picketed at Fox Studios in Los Angeles with her 3-week-old daughter. “It’s a turning point in the industry right now.

James Corden, Jane Krakowski, and Josh Gad will have to be forgiven for the disruption of turning a Los Angeles crosswalk into a makeshift stage — at least they can promise it won’t happen again. As Corden prepares to exit the Late Late Show for good, he’s giving his most famous segments one final send-off, including Crosswalk the Musical.
“And so my merry band of thespians, today we say hooray for Hollywood,” Corden told his cast of actors. “Today we shall bid our final adjure with songs from shows...

The film year of 2022 pretty much ended with a “music biopic”, Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance With Somebody (at least I’m making it the “year’s end” as it was the last advance screening I attended). It did fairly well at the box office but didn’t come close to the critical and award accolades of Bohemian Rhapsody or Judy. But that’s not going to halt Hollywood from “mining” this material, and so we’re getting a tune-filled “true” tale at the end of 2023’s first quarter. Oh, but this has a twist in that it doesn’t center around a beloved performer. No, this concerns the head of a record company. Yeah kids, in those ancient days before streaming and downloading, people went to brick-and-mortar stores and bought discs produced by these companies Aka recording labels. And one of the biggest of them in the mid-...

Gad took to Twitter to slam the “pathetic” trolls who disliked the new live-action “Little Mermaid” trailer starring Halle Bailey as Ariel. “Imagine being so broken and pathetic in life that your chief concern is the skin color of…a make-believe singing mermaid,” Gad captioned a retweet of Democratic organization Call to Activism’s post citing that “The Little Mermaid” has been mass-disliked on YouTube.
Per Call to Activism, the teaser received 3 million down votes and the new trailer currently has at more than 600,000 dislikes. Disney debuted the trailer as part of the 95th Academy Awards March 12 in a segment that cost the studio $10 million.

Josh Gad has condemned the racist backlash against the forthcoming live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid.
The Disney-produced film stars Halle Bailey in the lead role of Ariel.
The 22-year-old actor’s casting in the role prompted an influx of online trolling, with the first teaser trailer receiving over 3 million “dislikes” on YouTube.
Gad, who has starred in Disney’s Frozen and the live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast, responded to the backlash on Twitter.
“Imagine being so broken and pathetic in life that your chief concern is the skin colour of… a make-believe singing mermaid,” he wrote.
Bailey herself has spoken out about the backlash in the past, recalling the words of encouragement that her grandparents were able to offer her.
“It was an inspiring and beautiful thing to hear their words of encouragement, telling me, ‘You don’t understand what this is doing for us, for our community,...

It’s been a packed seven days of all sorts of “Parties & Premieres” here in Hollywood, as Oscar Week is finally here, after what seemed like a full year of studios campaigning via special events for Academy Award glory. Ironically, two of the biggest things that happened were TV events as the casts of both “Ted Lasso” and “House of the Dragon” hit Tinseltown to remind everyone that movies are definitely not the only thing people watch these days. Fabulous women were feted all over town, fashion was at the forefront and the Irish contingent partied hard in the name of Oscar Wilde, one of history’s all-time party lovers.

The House of the Dragon showrunner has released a small, but fiery, tease of what fans can expect from season two of HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel.
“You’re going to meet five new dragons,” co-creator Ryan Condal said at an FYC screening of the hit series in Los Angeles on Tuesday. Condal added that the upcoming season would start filming “very shortly” in 2023.
Condal was joined by eight castmembers of House of the Dragon, along with George R.R. Martin, his co-creator and author of the fantasy novels on which both Game of Thrones and the new drama show are based. The actors on the stage included Rhys Ifans (who plays Otto Hightower), Eve Best (Rhaenys Targaryen), Steve Toussaint (Corlys Velaryon), Fabien Frankel (Criston Cole), Matt Smith (Daemon Targaryen), Olivia Cooke (Alicent Hightower), Paddy Considine (King Viserys/Targaryen) and Emily Carey (young Alicent Hightower).
