Singer Colbie Caillat might not have felt so "Bubbly" after she auditioned for American Idol. The 32-year-old singer actually tried out for the reality competition twice during its Fox run… but you can be forgiven if you don't remember seeing her on camera. As Colbie reiterated in the ABC revivals April 16 episode, she was axed at the pre-audition stage and didn't even get to sing for the judges! "I was in the auditions that you are outside with thousands of people," Colbie told Today in 2011 (per the Daily News). "You sleep on the street." On her second tryout, she even performed "Bubbly," her Platinum-certified debut single. But she doesn't hold a grudge against Idol, it seems. In an interview with USA Today (per Rolling Stone), she said she understands why she got the boot: "I was shy. I was nervous. I didn't look the greatest. I wasn't ready for it yet.

Our American Idol “journey” has come to an end, but let us not weep for what’s been cancelled, let us instead go to iTunes and download the Season 15 winner’s new single. Hey, from a songwriting vantage point, it may not be “Home,” but it definitely ranks above “No Boundaries” and “Inside Your Heaven” — and we bought those, too. And if this show can produce one more bona fide radio/touring superstar, maybe the inevitable reboot will happen sooner than expected, no?

"American Idol" just unleashed its final season preview. It should touch you. You get just the right glimpses of Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Phillip Phillips, and a few other winners who filled you with strange, hopeful glee all those years ago. You remember most of the big names of the series. But there are some others you should recall too. Here are our five favorite underrated performances in the show's history. 1. Katelyn Epperly, "The Scientist" (Season 9) Ellen DeGeneres was doomed as a panelist when she declared this rendition "too slow." Iowa native Katelyn Epperly made Coldplay's "The Scientist" a proper ballad with this hushed rendering. She gets better and better as she goes along, adding color and dynamic. I 2. Didi Benami, "Play With Fire" (Season 9) Didi Benami triumphed (and kind of failed) in a number of rad ways here. What I love: She picked a song meaningful to her,...

The exciting shows are finally here, "American Idol" fans. It's the Top 13 finalists, with a theme of "This Is Me." Could you vague that up for us, "Idol"? That is akin to my all-time favorite theme, the Season 6 episode that was like "Songs Gwen Stefani Has Heard Of (Maybe)."
Just as an Fyi, we're not going to recap all the video package shenanigans. Let's get down to business with the performances.
1. Dexter Roberts, "Aw Naw," Chris Young
Terrible song choice. This is a song trying to so hard to be a dirt-kickin' country rock number, but Dexter does not have the swagger to pull that off yet. He's just standing there. His voice isn't bad, but there are a few bum notes and the entire performance lacks energy. He'll stick around, I'm fairly sure, but he's going to have to step that up.

I love American Idol, and therefore I can't stand when certain kickass Idol performances are forgotten years later. Here are eight you should keep close to your heart and voice box.
1. Von Smith, "You're All I Need" (season 8)
The ultra-talented Von Smith had the misfortune of auditioning for American Idol during season eight, the year when the Top 36 was slashed down to a Top 13 using a dubious voting system. It didn't help that folks like Adam Lambert and Alexis Grace (!) were endlessly touted before the Top 36, making their inclusion in the Top 13 almost inevitable compared to their little-seen competitors. Von's voice speaks -- nay, soars! -- for itself. So grand and crystal clear, and if I do say so myself, better than 99% of the vocalists we've heard on the show since.
2. Allison Iraheta and Cyndi Lauper, "Time After Time" (season 8)

The theme for the "American Idol" Top 6 contestants was announced Thursday night (April 21) at the end of the results show - it's Carole King, which should prove interesting.
King is a Grammy-winning singer/songwriter and we are big fans of her music. "Tapestry" is really her watershed effort - the 1971 album was named No. 36 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 greatest Albums of All Time.
But we aren't sure how the Idols are going to handle her music. Katelyn Epperly covered "I Feel the Earth" move in Season 9 and got pans from the judges, then was sent packing. Brooke White took on "You've Got a Friend" in Season 7 and did very well, but Carole King is right in Brooke White's wheelhouse. King's songs are quietly great and kind of niche - this year's Idols are going to have to really make them their own or it's going to be a long night.

With news that producers on the British version of "X Factor" used Auto-Tune software to help sweeten the voices of a few contestants, I can't say I'm that surprised. Like "American Idol," Simon Cowell's "X Factor" aims to find the music industry's next big superstar. If the singers on "X Factor" and "Idol" are going to have to compete with contemporary pop acts — many of whom barely do an interview without a little audio sweetening in post-production — can you blame producers for a little tweaking here and there to polish their product?
In fact, I wonder if Cowell's old show might have gained a bit of shine from some tuning enhancements in the past. Here's my pick for five "American Idol" contestants who would have benefited from some minor pitch-correction.

Opinions have been largely negative surrounding the ninth season of Fox's hit singing competition show -- but is this really the worst season in "American Idol" history? We don't think so.
We think this is more a case of the collective "Idol" viewing audience having some short-term memory loss. Sure, in comparison to the David vs. David showdown of two years ago and the spectacle that was Adam Lambert coupled with whiskey-voiced Allison Iraheta and cutie-pie Kris Allen, Season 9 seemed a little boring.
But let's not forget the seasons prior to seven and eight. Do you even remember the black hole that was Season 3?
Season 9's Paige Miles is arguably the best 11th-place finisher ever, with the possible exception of Alexis Grace. Unfortunately for Paige, the week she was eliminated she was very obviously sick and had had no exposure prior to the Top 24, thus no fan base to get her through the rough patch.

After 43 episodes (and 54 hours you'll never ever get back), the ninth season of "American Idol" is finally down to just two. And I'm live-blogging every last second of it. (Although, not literally every second because that would be quite cumbersome. And boring.)

So, as we gear up for Tuesday's (May 25) final performance night, sit back and grab your brain's TiVo remote as we quickly rewind season nine and revisit 10 of our favorite performances this year.

Outgoing American Idol contestant Casey James has insisted that he is “happy” to have finished in third place on Wednesday night.
The 27-year-old singer was eliminated just before next week’s final, in which Crystal Bowersox or Lee DeWyze will take the title.
Speaking to reporters after his elimination, he said: “I’m the kind of guy that accepts what happens and is always happy about it, so had I got second or first I would be happy, but I can tell you that I’m definitely happy with where I landed.
“I continue to say it, but it always remains to be true, that everything happens for a reason and you have to roll with it and be happy. I certainly am. I am elated to have landed here and I’m going to make the most of it.”
He added that he had prepared to be voted off...

It's the week before final exams on "American Idol," so it's probably too late to start wondering, "What if?" As in, "What if we had a different top three? What if Lilly Scott or Katelyn Epperly hadn't been chucked off the show far too early and were still bringing their expectation-defying artistry to the stage?"
It's certainly too late to imagine our expectations might be proven wrong when it comes to the performances of Crystal Bowersox, Lee DeWyze and Casey James. By this point in the "Idol" school year, we know exactly what we're going to get from each contestant and, at least in this regard, Tuesday night's show did not disappoint.

Gymnastics sweetheart Shawn Johnson has announced she will indeed compete in the 2012 Summer Olympic games in London for the U.S. Women's Gymnastics team. In 2008 in Beijing, Iowa native Johnson was considered the favorite for the Women's All-Around title but took silver to her teammate Nastia Liukin's gold.
Johnson did earn gold in the balance beam and took home two more silvers for the team competition and floor exercise. Johnson made her announcement in her hometown of Des Moines to a group of elementary schoolers (awwww), saying, "It's just exciting, but I've got a ways to go. This is just a start. And nothing is a sure thing, but I'm going to give it as big and best an effort as I can."
Hopefully this time she can get that All-Around title and can make room for it on her mantle next to her "Dancing With the Stars" mirror ball trophy.

Casey James and Michael Lynche took to the American Idol stage last night and nailed that Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart hook-up Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman.
It wasn’t quite as interesting as the Lee/Crystal duet, but it was nice to see Casey and Big Mike working together on this song. There were good harmonies and it was nice to see them both on guitar again…..and those little smiles that passed between the pair were heartwarming.
Randy Jackson praised the guitar work, but with his comments on vocals seemed to favour Michael more. Ellen DeGeneres took a moment to out herself for the billionth time as a lesbian. While Kara and Simon both declared the duets to be infinitely better than the solo performances tonight. I have a sneaky suspicion that they might be right.

Casey James managed to score an “artist” shirt from celebrity mentor Jamie Foxx on last night’s American Idol, so we were expecting great things right from the off!
He sang Simon & Garfunkel’s Mrs Robinson, but played it on…a mandolin? Weird! Although Casey certainly put his own spin on the tune, it’s neither my favourite S&G song, nor my favourite Casey performance. A little too sleepy for my tastes.
Judges Comments:
* Randy Jackson: First I gotta ask you a question – why’d you choose this song? (Hinting at the Kara flirty thing from months ago) I thought you sounded cool on it. I don’t know if I was like jumping up and down. There was nothing you really changed about it, it was just kind of a cool, laid back version of the song.
* Ellen DeGeneres: Well I wish they would’ve given you a big boy guitar.

Former "American Idol" runner-up Katharine McPhee has released a new version of her single "Terrified" with a somewhat unlikely duet partner: "Chuck" star Zachary Levi.
The video for their collaboration was released Friday (May 7), and while it doesn't sound all that different from the song as it appears on her album "Unbroken" (she did that version with Jason Reeves). What's impressive, though, is that Levi pretty much holds his own with her. He's got a pretty good singer-songwriter voice, to our ears (maybe that's in the new Intersect?).
So that's at least four versions of the song we've heard to date: McPhee's original, the one that Didi Benami performed during "American Idol's" Hollywood round, "Idol" judge Kara DioGuardi's performance on "Lopez Tonight" a few weeks ago and now this one.
Watch the video below. What do you think of Levi's singing chops?

Outgoing American Idol contestant Aaron Kelly has refused to predict a winner for the 2010 season of the show.
The 17-year-old singer was voted off the show after this week’s Frank Sinatra themed show and during a conference call with reporters he insisted that Crystal Bowersox, Casey James, Lee Dewyze & Michael Lynche all have a chance of winning the competition. He said:
“I say this to everyone – they are all talented and I think they all have a shot at winning.”
“When it comes down to it, it’s America that votes so any one of them has a shot. They are all fantastic and they will all go out there and shine for the Top Four. They’re going to do a great job.”

Katelyn Epperly and Lilly Scott were eliminated on the same night of "American Idol" Season 9 back in March but were reunited for a performance on Wednesday, May 5 in Katelyn's hometown of Des Moines, Iowa.
The Des Moines Register says that Lilly took the stage first (after a brief intro from Katelyn, which is the second video below) and played a set of "short, folksy original songs, plus a few covers." She was joined onstage by the mandolin player form band Varlet, Cole Rudy.
Katelyn took the stage shortly at 9 p.m., immediately launching into a cover of John Mayer's "Stop This Train." She tells the Register in the interview below that she met Lilly on group night for "American Idol" and got closer when they became roommates when they got sick at the same time. She also says it's great to back in Des Moines and in front of such a warm crowd.

Aaron Kelly has been kicked off American Idol, which was quite a shocking result really since most experts were expecting Casey James to get the boot.
The 17 year old singer found himself in the bottom two alongside big bodied crooner Michael Lynche on last night’s result show. Michael placement alone was enough to send shock ripples through the audience. After all the night before, his rendition of ‘The Way You Look Tonight’ caused Simon Cowell to enthuse:
“I think you just put yourself back in the game.”
While Randy Jackson said:
“Mike is in it to win it. Dude, what is great – I don’t care what song you sing, do it interestingly and do it well.”
Aaron’s performance of Fly Me To The Moon hadn’t been so well received and Cowell called it ‘mousey’ but he didn’t hate it as much as he detested Casey James’ rendition of Blue Skies.

Aaron Kelly opened last night’s American Idol Frank Sinatra themed show with his rendition of ‘Fly Me To The Moon,’ he was accompanied on piano by this week’s celebrity mentor Harry Connick Jr.
We liked his styling this week. Not so much of the wet head and a more conventional haircut, he looked handsome, and quite a bit older which is no bad thing. Aaron crooned his way through the song effortlessly, and his voice held up well to this genre which is very different to his normal style. He impressed Randy and Ellen but Kara and Simon weren’t so convinced!
Judges Comments:
Randy Jackson: One of the things I was looking for tonight is who’s in it to win this. It’s getting down to the wire. Who’s got the fire? Who’s gonna bring it hard? Sinatra week. I mean, one of...

On Sunday (May 2), "American Idol" Season 7 winner David Cook ran the Washington D.C. Race for Hope and raised $140,000 for the National Brain Tumor Society and Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure in honor of his older brother, Adam Cook.
"I came back because the cause is important to me and my family, as well as countless others. Brain tumors and brain cancer continues to be one of the most under-funded diseases," Cook tells People.
One year ago in May 2009, Cook served as Grand Marshal in the Race For Hope, less than 24 hours after Adam passed away after a decade-long battle with brain cancer. "The last year has been a process," Cook says. "It's all about perspective and remembering what Adam went through so we can work to help avoid anyone else having to do the same."

"American Idol" runner-up Adam Lambert is gearing up to release his next single of "For Your Entertainment" in the United States. It's "If I Had You" and Adam is drumming up excitement by tweeting the single cover Sunday, May 2.
Lambert's company, 19 Entertainment, confirmed to Zap2it at the end of March that "If I Had You" was indeed the next single of Adam's debut album, but that it is "still weeks away before it's released. ['Whataya You Want From Me'] is still strong at radio."
But apparently that time grows closer, since there is now official art for it. Adam also tweets "If I Had You will be hitting radio in the Us very soon... you ready? Shooting the video in the next couple of weeks- s'gonna be Epic!" and "Request 'If I Had You' at your favorite radio station now!!! Let's blow this s*** up!!!" [Censoring added]

It's going to be a ratings bonanza when Lady Gaga appears on "American Idol" on Wednesday (May 5). But, it also sounds like the singer is making out pretty well herself.
Ok! magazine reports that Lady Gaga demanded a fat check for $250,000 for the "Idol" performance. The producers apparently thought that was ridiculous.
"They thought it was just crazy she was asking for so much money," a source tells the magazine. "It was just too much money to pay talent for a performance."
Obviously, the producers sang a new tune and paid up. We don't know exactly what they paid her, but we're sure it couldn't be much less than what she asked for.
We hope the top five Idol mentor, Harry Connick Jr., is still happy with what he was paid. If not, we're sorry, dude!
Do you think Lady Gaga's pre-taped "Idol" performance is worth $250,000?

"American Idol" Season 9 favorite Crystal Bowersox is not just liked by voters and the judges -- singer Melissa Etheridge is also a fan.
Etheridge tells the ladies of "The View," about seeing the "American Idol" finalists a few nights ago and Crystal Bowersox reminding Etheridge that they met a few years ago when Crystal went backstage at one of Melissa's shows in Chicago.
"I signed her guitar and that's the guitar that she uses," Etheridge relays. "She's really sweet, I like her. She's real." Apparently Etheridge's kids actually recognized the Melissa signature on Crystal's guitar before Melissa did one night when they were watching "Idol." How cool is that?
Crystal Bowersox is definitely the frontrunner so far, can anybody beat her? Also, we think this Melissa Etheridge love can only mean one thing -- duet for the "American Idol" finale! Make it happen, Fox.

If you were totally dismayed that Katelyn Epperly and Lilly Scott were booted from "American Idol" during the semi-finals, you can see these "Idol" BFFs together May 5 in Des Moines, Iowa.

We wish we still lived in Iowa -- we would totally go! Epperly previously told the Register that she was also performing June 3, but that concert is no longer scheduled. She also sat down in an interview with the Register along-side fellow Des Moines native Olympian Shawn Johnson. The girls had reality show stories to swap, as Shawn was the winner of the "Dancing With the Stars" Season 8. Watch their interview below!

Adam Lambert is a sneaky one -- the "American Idol" finalist put a bonus track on the U.K. version of his debut album "For Your Entertainment."
Listen below and tell us what you think. The new song is called "Can't Let You Go" and it runs in the same vein as his biggest hit to date "Whataya Want From Me," which means we give it a big thumbs up. We love how beautiful the lower verses are and wow, does the chorus really take flight.

Apparently Crystal Bowersox does not need to win "American Idol" to take to the radio airwaves. A song called "Holy Toledo" from her pre-"Idol" days hit the "Idol" airplay charts this past week.
According to USA Today, a Toledo, Oh-based radio station 101.5 The River (Wrvf-fm) has picked up this little ditty and played it often enough to land it at No. 90 on the airplay chart. Crystal's "Holy Toledo" recorded 16 plays this past week, landing it right above Carrie Underwood's "Star Spangled Banner" and right below Ruben Studdard's "Sorry 2004." We aren't sure what is more surprising -- that Crystal is already on the radio or that "Sorry 2004" still is.
Take a listen to the song below and let us know what you think! Frankly, we think it's pretty good, not that we are surprised. Her voice is subdued and very pretty on the piece and it really reminds...

There have been many stories written this week about the relationship between American Idol contestant Crystal Bowersox and presenter Ryan Seacrest.
Last week sources suggested that the mum of one had been about to succumb to the intense pressure she felt and quit the show, but that Seacrest gave her a pep talk and convinced her to stay. Days later, former Idol hopeful Katelyn Epperly revealed in a radio interview that Crystal felt ‘betrayed’ by Seacrest and was convinced that he had leaked the story to the media.
Katelyn told Star 102.5 that Crystal texted her after the story broke saying:
“I’m fine…betrayed by Seacrest!” Pretty much says it all, doesn’t it?”
Crystal alluded to the upset on Idol’s official Facebook page. She wrote:
no apologies for being human. Life is always testing ones strength and weakness threshold. That’s how we learn how strong we
really are:-)

On tonight’s American Idol, Aaron Kelly took on R Kelly’s song – I Believe I Can Fly. Ryan Seacrest said that it’s a song he’s been singing since he was five. So, that was about last week then, wasn’t it?
Celebrity mentor for the show Alicia Keys, said that Aaron had a challenge on his hands but if he could put a lot of emotion into the performance then he could take the song to “a whole other place”.
So once again Aaron returned to doing slightly country-tinged versions of pop classics. The vocal was pretty duff at the beginning, but he handled the key change fairly well. He’s capable, but like another blogger said last week…we can’t see ourselves owning an Aaron Kelly album anytime soon. Simon Cowell aptly put it by saying ‘it wasn’t very good!’

The gorgeous Casey James opened this week’s American Idol show and performed his own version of Fleetwood Mac’s Don’t Stop. Alicia Key was the celebrity mentor and her advice to Casey was “You don’t want to have people saying I love that song. You want them saying I love him.”
I thought it was a very strange choice for ‘Inspirational Songs’ week…..in fact it is a very uninspiring song in my eyes. Casey’s vocals felt a little sharp at the start, and it’s definitely not my favourite performance of Casey’s. Its a serviceable rendition with some great guitar playing, but I felt the focus on the vocals slipped.
Judges Comments:
Randy Jackson: It was a good performance. It wasn’t your best performance. I feel like every week we see the same thing from you. I understand that’s who you are,...
