There's been chatter for years about singer/songwriter Taylor Swift joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Yesterday evening, one scooper went so far as to claim she's had a "good meeting" with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige to discuss her joining the franchise.
Swift, who has become nothing short of a global phenomenon in recent years, is no stranger to acting and has even stepped behind the camera to direct. With that in mind - and the singer's immense popularity - it's no great shock that Marvel Studios is interested in working with her.
The question now is, who should she play? Many of the McU's biggest roles have already been cast and, given how successful Swift is as a writer and recording artist, we don't anticipate her signing any nine-picture movie deals!
In this feature, we explore some of the most exciting and realistic possibilities for Swift's MCU role. To check them out,...

Some films begin with a grander idea than one they can actually execute. For a film, it’s good to have a grand concept, no doubt, but it’s better when the film knows that it doesn’t and begins from an honest space. Fast Charlie, the 2023 Pierce Brosnan film, never tries to become ‘bigger,’ a ‘spectacle,’ and therein lies its strength. With some clever writing from Richard Wenk and Victor Gischler, Fast Charlie benefits from Brosnan’s on-screen persona and Morena Baccarin’s turn as a high-iq taxidermist who just knows how to calmly deal with the criminal world if ever it comes too close to destroying her own. There is James ‘Jimmy’ Caan in a short but emotionally powerful role as well, and he plays his bit well in the penultimate film of his career. Through some engaging twists and turns, the film becomes a refreshing action thriller...

The short and shaggy tale of an aging hitman (Pierce Brosnan) who realizes it’s time to either get out of the game or die trying, Phillip Noyce’s “Fast Charlie” is the kind of movie you’ve seen a thousand times before. It was adapted from the 2003 Victor Gischler novel “Gun Monkeys,” which is the kind of book you’ve read a thousand times before. And yet, the difference here — the most crucial reason why this particular version of that well-weathered story is weirdly charming instead of trite — is that Noyce’s film treats its ultra-familiar tropes as more of a feature than a bug. They’re the lingua franca of a Southern-fried thriller set in the clogged drain at the bottom of the criminal underworld; a place that everybody talks about leaving, but nobody ever seems to escape. Not while they’re still breathing, anyway.

Pierce Brosnan has a very particular set of skills in Vertical’s Fast Charlie trailer, and he’s not afraid to show you how he keeps them sharp. The upcoming thriller from director Phillip Noyce features Brosnan as Charlie Swift, a fixer whose latest victim is missing his head, and it’s up to Charlie to prove the rest of his body belongs to his intended target.
Based on the novel “Gun Monkeys” by Victor Gischler, Fast Charlie has the following synopsis:
Charlie Swift (Pierce Brosnan), aka “Fast Charlie,” is a fixer with a problem: the target he’s whacked is missing his head. And he must prove it’s the intended target to the man who paid for the hit – New Orleans’ most prominent and most ruthless mobster, Beggar Mercado (Gbenga Akinnagbe). Charlie enlists Marcie Kramer (Morena Baccarin), the victim’s ex-wife and a woman with the backbone and skillset Charlie needs.

One sign of a terrific actor is that he can hold you even when he’s not doing anything. Pierce Brosnan is like that. I wouldn’t call him a minimalist, though he never wastes a word or a movement; he has the precision of an expensive watch. Yet as he’s gotten older, his inner quality of elegant puckish cutthroat gravitas has only grown stronger. You’re hooked by him when he’s not doing anything in part because he projects the unwavering confidence that you will be.
That makes him the ideal actor to play a seen-it-all hit man — who also happens to be a highly civilized gourmet cook — in Phillip Noyce’s “Fast Charlie,” a Deep South crime drama that may be the twelfth movie this year to center on a hit man. But the new hit-man movies, like David Fincher’s “The Killer” and Richard Linklater’s “Hit Man,...

I think to date this series has been receiving what I will diplomatically call mixed reviews. My reviews have not been mixed at all, in the sense that I think it has been a poor book. The comic book marketplace is a crowded one, and I genuinely don’t like to see books appear that don’t add any value, that don’t really offer anything. That being said, having now watched the (5 minute!) trailer for the new Independence Day film, the context of this series makes a little more sense, as does its choice of lead character. Seeing as how this mini-series was created to link the first film to the upcoming second, perhaps it would have made more sense to have released this book after that last trailer came out. Anyway, fresh eyes and all that…...

My review of the first issue of this series was quite harsh, which is rare for me as I always try to see the positives in any book. I fully understand the writers and artists still do a full shift if we like their final product or not, so I don’t like to overly criticise. I do think Victor Gischler has a tough job anyway, breathing life into a licensed comic that doesn’t even feature the main characters from the film that it is licensed from. Clearly the Will Smith ‘use of likeness’ fees were very high, plus we now know his character will not feature in the film sequel Independence Day: Resurgence, so we have instead a cast of very forgettable second bananas.

Having read far too many movie tie-ins in my time, I have a observation to share. Tie-ins that use the source material but add to it, such as storylines that run alongside the main story or ones that flesh out supporting characters, tend to be pretty good. They bring something of value. Ones that just duplicate the movie itself, or mimic it to a degree that you have a generic plot and cast, tend to be bad, sometimes very bad. Some properties lend themselves to being adapted quite naturally, others not so much. For me, Independence Day falls into the latter category so it’s fair to say my expectations going in to this were not high.

CBS knows drama. The network has just picked up two new drama pilots, a medical series and a thriller, from the Dan Jinks Company, Deadline reports.
The first, an untitled medical drama, comes from Empire writer David Rambo. The series will follow "an enterprising doctor who breaks the boundaries of medicine and crime-solving by creating a team of physicians, detectives and a forensic psychologist at Brooklyn’s busiest hospital who work together to heal victims and obtain justice." Dr. Astrid Heger, child sexual abuse expert and founder of USC's Violence Intervention Program, is said to be the inspiration behind the series.
The second, a thriller titled Stay from The Good Wife co-executive producer Luke Schelhaas, is based on the book of the same name by Victor Gischler. The series will center on a stay-at-home dad/former U.S. Special Forces agent who must return to crime fighting when his own...

Sometimes Slimer can be useful. The Slimer pizza cutter from Diamond Select Toys is available now. Also in this round-up: an exclusive excerpt from Carter Sloan's Gestapo Mars and details on Funko's Sci-fi Mystery Minis Series 2.
Slimer Pizza Cutter: From Diamond Select Toys: “Pizza need cutting? Who you gonna call? How about the Ghostbusters’ resident foodie, Slimer?
As a focused, non-terminal repeating phantasm, Slimer tends to eat his food by the handful, with no cutting required, but the overall shape of this Class 5 full roaming vapor is perfect for housing a pizza wheel! A three-dimensional sculpt of Slimer stuffing his face with a whole pizza acts as the handle for a palm-sized blade, perfect for carving out a New York slice. The blade is easily removable for cleaning. Packaged in a full-color window box.
Estimated availability: Summer 2015.”

Angel and the Faith #18 wraps up the three part “Those Who Can’t Teach, Teach Gym” arc in a hurry as Faith and Fred, who are secretly investigating a series of vampire related murders come face to face with the culprit behind them all. The Big Bad for this short arc is long time Buffy and Angel opponent Drusilla, who was sired by Angelus, sired Spike, and wants a taste of her old glory so she is siring a bunch of students at St. Cuthbert’s School. Writer Victor Gischler captures her evil, pain, and eccentricities through his dialogue while artist Cliff Richards and colorist Michelle Madsen give readers a taste of her monstrous past and present with a liberal use of flame motifs and close-ups of her bumpy,...

While Angel is off dealing with Old Ones, demon lords, and Spike actually dating Buffy over in Buffy Season Ten, Angel and Faith Season Ten #16 focuses on Faith, Fred, and Magic Town’s (An area of London where demons and various magic and “special” folk live) top cop Brandt’s more “low key” work. Victor Gischler writes Faith as both wistful and sassy as she moves out of the apartment she and Giles used to share and starts to investigate some mysterious killings at a prep school. She and Fred have a nice buddy dynamic, but Cliff Richards draws their faces in a similar manner and it is hard to tell them apart. Richards’ combination of hyper detailed figures and less detailed backgrounds give the art a static feel,...

Southern Lousiana, 82 years after the Fall. The apocalypse has come and gone, leaving behind a withered ravaged landscape of wreckage and mutant crawfish. Still, you gotta laugh, and Sally does, often using her beloved shotgun, Bertha, as the punchline! Inspired more by lust than common sense, and by a teenage desire to protect Tommy, the object of her desires, Sally leaves her bar job and joins the deranged crew of the Mississippi Duchess on a mission into the remains of New Orleans.
Sally of the Wasteland is a comic for those among us who like the post apocalyptic scene. I could draw many comparisons between it and the Fallout game series, so if that is your jam, you might want to check it out. Sally has mutated monster, cannibals, bandits, lots of violence, you name...

Angel & Faith: Season 10 #2-3
Written by Victor Gischler
Art by Will Conrad. Colours by Michelle Madsen.
Covers by Scott Fischer, and Variant Covers by Chris Samnee and Jordie Bellaire
Published by Dark Horse Comics
Three issues into the new season of Angel & Faith and it is becoming apparent that the title of the comic is a tad misleading; at least, when met with the expectations of what last season’s Angel & Faith was. While last volume was very much a “team up” series between the two lost souls of the Buffyverse, the current volume has thus far divided them. The ampersand separating Angel and Faith in the title has taken on new meaning. This is a comic telling two stories concurrently: the story of Angel, and the story of Faith. It’s an interesting approach, and doesn’t cheapen the heartfelt ending of last volume’s Angel & Faith.

Immediately upon opening this book, it’s clear this is a Buffyverse comic unlike any we’ve seen in some time. Aesthetically, the debut issue of Angel & Faith‘s second series may even seem a little jarring at first, being so different from Rebekah Isaacs’ work on the previous volume. Will Conrad’s textured illustrations and noir/thriller-esque scene compositions as well as Michelle Madsen’s dark colour palette bring forth a return to Angel’s TV series roots, as well as Idw comic run. This looks radically different than any other Buffyverse comic published by Dark Horse in the last seven years, and its darkness could become a beacon of light this season. This issue looks most alive during its nighttime scenes, with Angel walking...

Fans may remember that Simone first began her [mainstream] run in the comic industry with Marvel’s Deadpool at the time, and although the series ended just a few issue later, Simone went on to launch a similarly-minded character series called Agent X in 2002.

Attn: Joss Whedon fans! We have more news from Nycc, and it involves three series created by said man of the hour: Buffy Season 10, Angel & Faith Season 10, and a new storyline for Serenity, all coming in 2014.
From the Press Release:
Announced at New York Comic Con, Dark Horse is bringing the Whedonverse into its tenth season with the help of fan favorite authors Christos Gage and Victor Gischler.
“In Buffy, Season 10 is going to be about bringing friendships back together, while in Angel & Faith, relationships are shattered. Magic is starting to come back into the world, but in some surprising ways, like that vampire we saw standing in the sunlight at the end of Season 9,” says Editor-in-Chief Scott Allie.
Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 10
Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 10 is slated for 30 issues, written by Christos Gage and illustrated by Rebekah Issacs with covers by long-time series artist Steve Morris.

Dark Horse Comics does horror arguably better than any other imprint right now. Not only is B.P.R.D.: Hell On Earth bringing on the apocalypse in the best possible way (… is there a good way to bring about the apocalypse?), but fantastic mini-series like Colder, Breath Of Bones, Richard Corben’s Edgar Allan Poe adaptations, and continuations of the classics Creepy and Eerie prove that the publisher is a permanent fixture for things that go bump in the night. At the Dark Horse panel Four Colors Of Fear, comic book gurus Paul Tobin, Eric Powell, Gabriel Hardman, Borinne Bechke, Scott Allie, and Tim Seeley shared the details of projects that should once again make monster fans wave their pompoms.
Gabriel Hardman and Borinne Bechke described their three-part serial called Station To Station by enthusiastically mentioning “interdimensional tenctacle monsters” and “giant fetuses in slingshots”. I have no idea...

Thus launches the "Buffy" Season 9 spin-off..."Spike". This is a five issue miniseries from Dark Horse Comics, written by Victor Gischler and pencilled by Paul Lee. Entertainment Weekly (EW) have provided us "sneak peek" of how Spike separates himself from Buffy, how he copes with "a dark place" that the forbidden love has driven him to, and the disgruntled cockroaches that have been his loyal followers thus far. (No, I'm not making this up) Despite the giant cockroaches "The focus is on Spike and his coming to terms with some things, sort of getting right in the head," says Gischler. "He loves Buffy, but can’t be with her. What does that mean to a vampire with a soul?" Original Article by Adam B. Vary - Entertainment Weekly...

Press Release:
Dark Horse Comics announces a brand-new Spike miniseries slated for release this summer!
Written by Victor Gischler (X-Men, Deadpool: Merc with a Mouth) and drawn by Paul Lee (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Devil’s Footprints), Spike promises to be the series all Joss Whedon fans will be talking about.
Spike ventures off world in his bug ship in order to get away from some personal frustration on terra firma, and winds up sucked into a demonic plot to take advantage of the absence of magic on earth.
“What I love about working with Dark Horse on Buffy-related material is that they take great care to capture the feel of the characters and stories from the television show, of which I was a huge fan. Getting my hands on the characters I’ve loved so much over the years is a dream come true,” said Gischler.
