Lionsgate’s Vestron Video Collector’s Series is getting a Steelbook upgrade, at least when it comes to David Cronenberg‘s controversial feature debut, Shivers.
Shivers becomes available on Steelbook® on March 5, 2024, exclusively at Walmart.
In Shivers, “The residents of a suburban high-rise apartment building are being infected by a strain of parasites that turn them into mindless, sex-crazed fiends out to infect others by the slightest sexual contact.” The cast includes Paul Hampton, Lynn Lowry, and Barbara Steele.
Cronenberg blends sex and violence in a nightmarish parasitic outbreak in a high-rise apartment complex. Scientifically engineered parasites meant to replace functioning human organs instead renders their hosts sexually violent, hellbent on spreading their infection to others. How the pulsing worm-like parasites infect provides a lot of gnarly body horror moments, including a nightmare bathtub scene.
Check out the Steelbook artwork and full list of features included in the release below.

If you are an awesome artist or know someone that should be featured, feel free to contact me at any time at theodorebond@joblo.com.This month we are very pleased to bring you the awesome art of…

Before becoming one of the most divisive filmmakers in horror with the likes of Halloween and The Munsters, Rob Zombie was just a musician trying his hand at the film industry. House of 1000 Corpses came together fairly quickly following a failed attempt to reboot The Crow, but the rock star’s Hollywood career almost never was due to post-production controversy that left his directorial debut on the shelf for three years.
Production on Corpses was completed in 2000 before Universal Studios refused to release it due to its objectionable content. MGM later came on board to distribute it in 2002 until a tongue-in-cheek remark by Zombie caused them to cancel the deal. Finally, Lions Gate signed on and released it in April of 2003, launching Zombie’s film career as well as a franchise that would be followed by 2005’s The Devil’s Rejects and 2019’s 3 from Hell.

Some cliche somewhere said that ‘a picture is worth a thousand words.’ This has proven to be the case for me and especially when it comes to fan art. I have always sought out great fan art and have wanted to share it with as many people as possible. “Awesome Art We’ve Found Around The Net” is the outlet for that passion. In this column, I will showcase the kick-ass artwork of some great artists, with the hopes that these artists get the attention they deserve. That’s the aim. If you have any questions or comments, or even suggestions of art or other great artists, feel free to contact me at any time at theodorebond@joblo.com.

The different colors in Magic: The Gathering represent different types of magic. Black mana, for example, is drawn from swamps, and is parasitic and destructive, leeching power from its victims before destroying them completely. Red mana, from mountains, is chaotic and explosive, dealing lots of direct damage to opponents. Wizards of the Coast would clearly want an artist to represent these themes in the art on the cards. Who better to represent the death and destruction of mountains and swamps than Bob Ross?
Starting Cyber Monday (November 30th), Wizards of the Coast is releasing one of its periodic Secret Lair drops. These are exclusive, limited availability collections of cards with alternate art or styles that are only sometimes playable in competitive formats. In this case, it’s likely that at least the Bob Ross cards will be legal everywhere.

It’d be hard to meet someone who grew up in the 70s and 80s without knowing about Sylvester Stallone and his myriad of major hit films. He brought to life fictional boxer Rocky Balboa in the Rocky franchise, starred alongside Kurt Russell in the buddy cop flick Tango & Cash, and even took a stab at musical comedy with Dolly Parton in Rhinestone. And though he’s well-known for those movies and more, one film series really put him on the map as the badass action star he became synonymous with over the years.
Stallone’s role as Vietnam veteran John Rambo for the 1982 action-thriller First Blood made him a sensation in the industry. The pic tells the story of a former Green Beret traveling by foot who stumbles upon abusive law enforcement while passing through a rural town. Want three of the craziest and most insane movies of the last twenty years but are feeling a little light in the wallet? Rob Zombie‘s got your back with The Firefly Trilogy. This week it was announced that a standard edition Blu-ray triple-bill of House of 1000 Corpses, The Devil’s Rejects and 3 From Hell will be joining Target’s exclusive Steelbook in September.
The Steelbook boasts a seriously cool package designed by Vance Kelly and will retail for $29.99. The regular edition, meanwhile, comes in a normal Blu-ray case and is priced at a more reasonable $12.99. Right now, we don’t if there’ll be any differences in content between the two, but given the wealth of behind the scenes footage and documentaries about the making of these films, you’d hope that at least the deluxe one would contain some cool stuff.

If you’re like me and love showcasing your love of the genre through the artwork you adorn your walls with, then today’s installment of Daily Dead’s Holiday Gift Guide should be right up your proverbial alley. We’re shining the spotlight on several familiar sites that have some excellent horror and sci-fi themed prints and original art that pay tribute to some of the greatest cinematic genre films of all time. Also, we’re featuring several new sites (and artists) that I’ve come across this year, as there just seems to be an endless array of talent out there that I’m hoping more folks will discover.
And while the holiday season might be all about the spirit of giving, I don’t think Santa will be too mad if you end up doing a little shopping from this handy guide for yourself, so be sure...
