Jon Bon Jovi played a big part in helping to break Skid Row in the ’80s, and now he’s urging Lzzy Hale to stay on as the veteran rock band’s permanent singer.
Skid Row’s Dave “The Snake” Sabo was childhood friends with Jon in New Jersey, and was very briefly the first guitarist for the band Bon Jovi prior to Richie Sambora’s arrival. Jon eventually helped Skid Row secure their first record deal.

Lzzy Hale made her debut as the singer of Skid Row over the weekend during a pair of concerts on Friday and Saturday (May 17th and 18th) in Illinois and Iowa.
Hale is filling in on vocals after Skid Row’s previous frontman, Swedish singer Erik Grönwall, stepped away from the group due to health issues.

The band had four gigs on the books — now billed as the “Skid Row x Lzzy Hale” run — when Grönwall announced his exit. The first came on Friday (May 17th) at Walker’s Bluff in Carterville, Illinois, where the Hale-fronted glam metal icons performed a 16-song set.
They kicked things off with one of the heaviest Skid Row tracks in “Slave to the Grind” and proceeded to hit the obligatory hits, a cover (“Psycho Therapy” by the Ramones), and more heavy metal (“Monkey Business”). An encore of “Riot Act...

Nearly 30 years have passed since Skid Row unceremoniously gave Sebastian Bach the ol’ rattlesnake shake, replacing him with a revolving door of unremarkable frontmen. Now the door has finally opened to a singer who could inject some wild youthfulness into the band: Halestorm’s Lzzy Hale. The catch is, the vocalist, known for her powerful voice and onstage attitude, will front the band for four dates only.

Mother-daughter relationships have always been the stuff of great drama. And the Oscars are no exception. Three decades ago the “Moonstruck” acting duo Olympia Dukakis and Cher both won gold for playing a strong-willed New York Italian mother and her feisty daughter. Six years later, as a mute Scottish teacher and her de facto interpreter in New Zealand, Holly Hunter and Anna Paquin repeated that twofer triumph with Jane Campion’s “The Piano.”
Onscreen mother-daughter conflict has resulted in other dual Academy Award nominations: selfless Barbara Stanwyck tricked Anne Shirley into marrying rich in tearjerker “Stella Dallas” (1937); Meryl Streep’s big mouth inspired a rebellious Julia Roberts in “August: Osage County” (2013); Piper Laurie was literally crucified by Sissy Spacek in “Carrie” (1976). At the start of this decade, Mo’Nique won an Oscar portraying the sexually abusive parent of fellow “Precious” nominee Gabourey Sidibe. Back in 1984, both Shirley MacLaine and...

According to a new report from the people over at the Christian Post , some new celebrities names have already started turning up as possible houseguests for the upcoming Celebrity Big Brother edition that's due to air this winter 2018. Before we start running off these names, we want to say that none of these people have been officially confirmed to appear on the show. Some of them are just rumored to possibly be in talks to appear on the show, but no official decisions have been made by CBS. It does make sense that the network would actively be in talks right now with multiple celebrities as they're trying to get the season put together in time for a possible January or February 2018 premiere date. With all that said, the Christian Post is reporting that Skid Row front man Sebastian Bach is reportedly in talks with the show to possibly participate.

"Sing Your Face Off" may seem like a whacked idea for a celebrity-centric reality TV show. Why would anyone want to watch C-list celebrities dress up as music icons (sometimes of the opposite sex) then sing and perform, hoping to avoid elimination? Well, it turns out America has just been slow to get on the crazy train. "Your Face Sounds Familiar," the name of the show in the U.K., has spawned versions in Portugal, Germany, Ukraine, Vietnam and a whole mess of other places. How could we not? Personally, I suspected this brand of loony tunage sounded right up my alley, and I've been looking forward to the show's debut (on Sat. May 31 at 9:00 p.m. on ABC) since visiting the set months ago. Even though most of the cast (which includes Skid Row singer Sebastian Bach, Toronto Raptor Landry Fields, Disney Channel teen China Anne McClain and...

Most of Zac Efron‘s publicized fight in downtown Los Angeles is still largely a mystery. Despite a favorable cover story in The Hollywood Reporter, which describes the 26-year-old actor as a young man who goes to bed at 9 p.m. each night, there are still many questions surrounding his scuffle with shank-yielding Skid Row “vagrants.” After last year’s reveal that he spent time in rehab for substance abuse, and because of his Disney pedigree, many prematurely grouped Efron in with other child star trainwrecks. So how do you come back from a major PR scandal?

Troubled actor Nick Stahl was taken to a Los Angeles hospital Tuesday morning and placed on an involuntary "5150 psychiatric" hold, according to TMZ. The website reports that the "Terminator 3" star -- who has battled drug addiction in the past -- was brought into the facility by a friend at 3:30 a.m. No more details were disclosed.
Stahl, 33, starred in the blockbuster hit with Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2003. In June 2012, the actor caused alarm when he was reported missing by his wife after checking out of rehab early. The actor had previously told friends he was committed to getting treatment one month prior, it was reported, after he was spotted in La's Skid Row district.

"The Voice" is ready to wrap up Season 4 , with the Top 6 taking the stage on Monday (June 3) to fight for America's vote. Each artist will take the stage twice tonight, with a song of their choosing and another selected by their superstar coach (Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, Usher or Shakira). Only one artist is getting the boot tomorrow. Who will it be?
Holly Tucker: "When God Fearing Women Get The Blues" by Martina McBride
Blake wants to continue the streak of attitude that he had Holly tap into last week. During her performance, she sounds typically great, but the display of sass again feels a bit forced. It's going to continue to earn her votes, though. So, it's fine. The coaches all comment that it's been fun to see Holly come out of her shell throughout the competition, with Blake telling her it's his favorite of her performances all season.

Welcome to NBC’s The Voice: Country Strong, home of gingham dresses and boot-cut jeans, chewin’ tobacco and four wheelers, and Blake & Miranda as your royal couple. The letter “g” need not apply for the apostrophe’s position at the end of such words like singin’, dancin’, comin’ or goin’. Y’all.
And no, I’m not mocking the redneck way of living. (I’ve had my share of Pabst from a can while sitting around a bonfire, if you must know.) I’m just shocked that Season 4 of NBC’s reality singing competition seems to have abandoned any notion of musical versatility.

Move over Beyonce! There’s a new Sasha Fierce in town — and on June 3, she gave us the hottest performances of the night.
While Blake Shelton may still have three singers on his team, it was Team Shakira‘s Sasha Allen who really brought down the house on The Voice!
Blake Shelton’s Country Team Inspires Shakira
With only six contestants left, each singer performed twice — one song they picked themselves and one picked by their coach.
Blake’s team started the night when he chose “When God Fearin’ Women Get the Blues” for Holly Tucker, which showed just how powerful and fun her voice can be. She later chose “My Wish,” which she sang for her dad.
Then came the The Swon Brothers, and we all realized just how country these boys are!
They performed their choice, “Wagon Wheels,” which was so fun it even made Shakira admit that country music inspires her!

Clothing company Abercrombie & Fitch set off ire across the country over statements by its CEO, Mike Jeffries, who says he only wants cool, popular, petite people to wear his brand. In response, a guy named Greg Karber, set out on a guerrilla rebranding mission, he calls "Fitch the Homeless."
Karber shopped "the douchebag section" of Los Angeles thrift stores, and carried as many articles of A&F clothing as he could find to the homeless population on Skid Row. He captured his charitable donations on camera. "At first, people were reluctant to accept the clothes," Karber narrates. "Perhaps they were afraid of being perceived as narcissistic date rapists."
While many are in support of the "Fitch the Homeless" campaign, some critics have responded negatively to the video, suggesting it looks down upon homeless people as "unworthy," or lesser human beings. As Patheos points out, the "stunt has no bite without this assumption.

We’re getting closer and closer to the release of Iron Man 3, and I am freaking stoked. Iron Man is one of my favorite comic characters, and Robert Downey, Jr. has done such an incredible job of bringing Tony Stark to life on the big screen. From Iron Man, Iron Man 2, and The Avengers, these movies have shown that they really understand the character and are doing their hardest to make the best possible adaptation of old Shellhead. And now, after Iron Man set the bar and The Avengers raised it, Iron Man 3 looks poised to take things to the next level.
The trailers so far have shown us that director Shane Black is mining a whole lot of stories from the comics in order to put this film together. Already, we know that Iron Man 3 borrows elements from the Extremis story-arc, that it introduces the...

Title: Lost Angels: Skid Row Is My Home Director: Thomas Napper Narrated by Catherine Keener, “Lost Angels: Skid Row Is My Home” provides a poignant, illuminating look at the titular downtown Los Angeles area which serves as the residence to a large portion of the city’s indigent population. Far from just serving as an audio-visual grief mop — prodding viewers with images of despair — director Thomas Napper’s deeply humanistic movie throws a non-exploitative spotlight on people who have both found a way to make a life for themselves within this community of homelessness and also make themselves of greater service. Jeff Lindsay, the author of the Dexternovels, has a fluidity in his writing that makes reading his novels about a do-gooder serial killer such an easy and enjoyable read. Add the fact that the Showtime adaptation of the dark adventures of Dexter Morgan have certainly elevated Lindsay’s character to popularity, why not explore different mediums. But are comics a good choice? Marvel seems to think so as they have picked up a 5 issue series by teaming up Lindsay’s words with artist Dalibor Talajic (Deadpool).

Around the corner from La's Staple Center, where Lakers star Kobe Bryant is getting paid $27.8 million this year to make his moves on the court, Angelenos are sleeping in cardboard boxes.
Which is why Bryant walked a few blocks east of the stadium over the summer to create a web series about homelessness in La. The five-part series, titled "Mission," was released Wednesday and was created in partnership with TakePart TV, the new impact-driven channel recently launched by Participant Media. Watch all five episodes in the slideshow below.
In the "Mission" episode above, Bryant visits Skid Row and listens to the story of a man who was abused, along with his mother, by his stepfather. A veteran gets his day this Wednesday on Criminal Minds (CBS, 9/8c), when the Bau’s investigation into homeless people murdered at the Santa Monica Pier unexpectedly reunites Rossi with his Marine sergeant from Vietnam. Joe Mantegna — who this past weekend cohosted PBS’ inaugural National Salute to Veterans special — shared with TVLine a preview of the illuminating hour, promising that guest star Meshach Taylor (Designing Women) will blow you away in an atypically dramatic turn.

Joe Mantegna knows well that honoring America's veterans involves more than just a couple of days each year.
The "Criminal Minds" star and "Glengarry Glen Ross" Tony Award winner frequently visits military hospitals, in addition to filling his now-traditional role co-hosting PBS' annual National Memorial Day Concert with friend and equally committed soldier supporter Gary Sinise ("CSI: NY"). The two actors have an extra chance to show their appreciation this year, since on Veterans Day, they preside over the inaugural "National Salute to Veterans" special Sunday (Nov. 11) on PBS.
"It's not like we're just doing an entertainment show," Mantegna stresses to Zap2it. "The nature of the Memorial Day concert is that it calls attention to the support and recognition of our military, so the fact that we can do this for Veterans Day is timely and important, I think."

Hit So Hard documents the Hole drummer's descent into drugs hell, with plenty of footage of Courtney Love being equally naughty
The first thing to say about the rock doc Hit So Hard is that, really, you've heard this story a million times. The second is, so what? It's a great story. Tell it again.
Nothing's more toothsome than a narcotic-assisted rock'n'roll swan dive from the top of the pops to the bottom of the barrel. Sometimes, as here, there's a late bounce back towards recovery and sanity; but too often, all you're left with is a cadaver choked on its own vomit with a needle still in its arm. The survivor's tale has the compensatory afterglow of optimism, all horrors viewed through the retrospective scrim of rehab and hard-won sobriety. This way you get no corpse, no legendary status, no crowd of ghouls around the grafitti-covered gravestone, but you...

If you’re a horror fan (or a DVD collector) you probably know all about the infamous “original ending” of the 1986 musical adaptation Little Shop of Horrors. Previously released as a bonus feature on a DVD release before being pulled from circulation, that DVD has long been one of the most sought-after out-of-print titles in collector’s circles. Well, those DVDs about to lose their value on October 9 when Warner Bros. finally releases Little Shop of Horrors: Director’s Cut on Blu-ray with that original ending in tact and in full, glorious color. 10. Zach Galifianakis in Fiona Apple's "Not About Love"
We still have hope that these two will find love if only to see how eccentric and outlandish their offspring could possibly be. Apparently they met while performing repeatedly at the same club in Los Angeles, which means that the opportunity for the great reality show "Zach and Fiona Act Brilliantly Weird Together" goes fulfilled only in our heads.
9. Macaulay Culkin in Michael Jackson's "Black or White"
We could have gone with George Wendt for this one, but in 1991, no one could touch Macaulay Culkin after "Home Alone." After the stereotypical "turn the music down" parental yell, Culkin does what every 12-year-old kid wanted to do at the time. He will later show up as a hip-hopper and look tougher than Michael Jackson. Too bad the song is kind of lame, though. Eh. There's always the morph scene.
