Sasquatch Sunset directors Nathan and David Zellner always wondered what these hairy giants do when they’re not walking – the only Bigfoot footage available has been a minute of a supposed Sasquatch wandering in the northern California woods. They decided to flesh that out in unique dialogue-free comedic imagining of the creatures’ daily life – eating, fighting, etc. Stars Jesse Eisenberg, Riley Keough, Christophe Zajac-Denek and Nathan Zellner are unrecognizable as the hairy tribe of four that entranced Sundance (see Deadline review). Bleecker Street is opening the film, written by David Zellner, executive produced by Ari Aster, in 9 theaters in New York, LA, San Francisco and Austin, ahead of a big jump to about 800 screens next week.

If there were office pools for potential remakes of Hollywood films, it’s unlikely that Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead would have been high on anyone’s lists. After all, this 1991 black comedy starring Christina Applegate was hardly a critical or box-office sensation, and its reputation hasn’t exactly improved with time. On the other hand, it was a nearly ubiquitous presence on HBO for many years, and you couldn’t walk into a Blockbuster without seeing promotional materials for it prominently displayed. So the new version featuring a mostly Black cast also has its share of nostalgia value, which it smartly acknowledges via some callbacks to the original.
Otherwise, this version directed by Wade Allain-Marcus, which includes Tyra Banks among its executive producers (the actress/model was also originally going to appear in it), doesn’t do much to enhance the underwhelming storyline. It hews fairly close to the original,...

It feels safe to infer that the percentage of humans who had strong feelings about the news that “Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead” was being remade is statistically insignificant. Stephen Herek’s 1991 film, which starred Christina Applegate as a teenage girl who found her vacation plans spoiled when an absent mom and a deceased babysitter forced her to spend a summer caring for her four younger siblings, was dismissed as a forgettable riff on the “Home Alone” formula upon its initial release. While it eventually built the kind of modest fanbase that physical video stores often facilitated, the intellectual property was neither overdue for an update nor too sacred to touch.
That mass apathy ensured that Wade Allain-Marcus’ new remake had a wider berth for success than many of the comparable low-budget remakes that have been dumped on streaming services in recent years. There’s no denying that “Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead...

A remake of the ’90s classic “Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitter’s Dead” is coming to theaters in spring.
Simone Joy Jones, Nicole Richie and June Squibb will lead an ensemble including Jermaine Fowler (“Superior Donuts”), comic Ms. Pat, Olympian Gus Kenworthy, as well as newcomers Donielle Tremaine Hansley, Miles Fowler, Iantha Richardson and Tyriq Withers.
Like the 1991 film, “Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead” follows 17-year-old girl Tanya (Jones), who plans to vacation in Europe with her friends before heading to college in the fall. But her mom (Ms. Pat) decides to go to a wellness retreat in Thailand, so Tanya is forced to stay home with her siblings. When — as the title suggests — their elderly babysitter (Squibb) unexpectedly dies, Tayna gets a job working for an ambitious woman named Rose (Ritchie). As she juggles work, family and a complicated romance, Tanya navigates adulthood at the cost of her last summer of freedom.

You’ll want to catch Emma Seligman’s “Bottoms” while it’s in theaters. Buzz surrounding the Orion Pictures film has spread as quickly as the gossip about its two main characters did at Rockbridge Falls High School.
You’ll probably recognize at least one of the famous faces in the ensemble cast, whether it be “The Bear” star Ayo Edebiri, “Red White & Royal Blue” star Nicholas Galitzine or “Shiva Baby” breakout Rachel Sennott. Sennott and Seligman previously worked together on “Shiva Baby,” and the pair co-wrote the screenplay for “Bottoms.”
The film released in limited theaters Aug. 25 in Los Angeles, New York, Austin and San Francisco. The Alamo Drafthouse cinemas, arthouses and AMC screens showed the film its opening weekend. The combination of limited screens and lack of streaming makes for tricky navigation of how to watch “Bottoms,” but we’ve got you covered in the meantime before it eventually lands somewhere to stream.

One of the final comedy films of the summer has arrived — Emma Seligman’s “Bottoms” (2023). Co-written by Seligman, who directs, and Rachel Sennott, who stars as one of the main characters, the queer comedy film watches two unpopular teens plot a way to win over their popular crushes. They ultimately decide that a fight club is the best way to do this.
The antics of the Rockbridge Falls football team take a subplot to this main thread, until, of course, the two leading players realize what the club scheme is really all about. Some other conflicts of interest arise as the film goes on.
Here are the cast and characters of “Bottoms”:
Rachel Sennott as Pj in “Bottoms”
Pj (Rachel Sennott)
Pj, who loves overalls and suspenders, has a huge crush on Brittany (Kaia Gerber), and her hopeless romanticism combined with her refusal to quit leads her to take this crush to extreme lengths.

Emma Seligman’s Shiva Baby drew from the well of modern cringe comedies to tell its story of a pressure cooker of a shiva. That setting lent the film authenticity, keeping it firmly grounded in a recognizable reality. So it’s all the more surprising that Seligman’s follow-up, Bottoms, is a far more silly, over-the-top affair, but the film’s unique blend of deadpan and absurdist humor, and its tendency to occasionally push the boundaries of good taste, shows that Seligman is equally comfortable working at the opposite end of the comic spectrum.
Following queer high school besties P.J. (Rachel Sennott) and Josie (Ayo Edebiri) as they start a fight club in an attempt to impress two cheerleaders, Isabel (Havana Rose Liu) and Brittany (Kaia Gerber), Bottoms immediately announces itself as a warped reimagining of the high school comedy rather than a straightforward satire of one. "Unhinged and indescribable!" Sounds about right. MGM has revealed a hilarious official trailer for the comedy Bottoms, the latest from Canadian filmmaker Emma Seligman following her hit Shiva Baby. This premiered to uproarious laughter at the 2023 SXSW Film Festival a few months ago, and will be out in theaters in August at the end of this summer. "Want to get punched in the face by hot girls? Well Get In Line." Get ready, ladies...! Two unpopular queer high school students start a fight club to have sex before graduation. Bottoms has been described as one of the horniest films of the year. The comedy stars Rachel Sennott & Ayo Edebiri as Pj & Josie, with Havana Rose Liu, Nicholas Galitzine, Miles Fowler, and Marshawn Lynch. Yes this looks like one of the craziest, raunchiest, wildest high school comedies since Superbad. Looks like a new classic is about unleash in a few months!

A women’s self-defense club in a heightened toxic heterosexual high school? Welcome to “Bottoms.”
Rachel Sennott co-wrote the high school comedy with “Shiva Baby” director Emma Seligman. Sennott plays queer teen Pj opposite “The Bear” breakout Ayo Edebiri, who portrays Pj’s childhood bestie Josie. The duo lust after their respective crushes, Isabel (Havana Rose Liu) and Brittany (Kaia Gerber), while trying to navigate teendom in the shadow of quarterback Jeff (Nicholas Galitzine) and his cronie, teammate Tim (Miles Fowler).
Pj and Josie accidentally found a female fight club, co-run by misfit outcast Hazel (Ruby Cruz), with the hopes to befriend (and hook up) with cheerleaders under the guise of feminism. Marshawn Lynch, Dagmara Dominczyk, and Punkie Johnson also star in the highly anticipated, R-rated summer comedy.

Directed by Emma Seligman and written by Seligman and Rachel Sennott, Bottoms, is a coming of age story about two horny teenage girls kicking, punching, and slamming their way to getting laid. The film has a stacked cast including Sennott, Ayo Edebiri, Havana Rose Liu, Kaia Gerber, Ruby Cruz, and Miles Fowler. This comedic journey of its young protagonist is not without its issues, but it’s unapologetic in its execution and filled with memorable moments.
Bottoms opens with Pj (Senott) and Josie (Edebiri) having a conversation about girls and sex. As lesbian teens, they don’t have the gumption to approach their crushes. Makes sense as to why, their confidence is in the toilet because they are constantly bullied and called “ugly, untalented gays.” In an attempt to be more social, the friends go to the fairgrounds and spot Isabel (Havana Rose Liu) and Brittany (Kaia Gerber), the cheerleaders they aim to pursue.

This includes Visions, the Global section presented by Mubi, 24 Beats, and Festival Favorites plus numerous additions to the Headliners, TV Premieres, Narrative and Documentary Spotlight and other sections.
‘Swarm’
New on the sked is Janine Nabers and Donald Glover’s Amazon Studios series Swarm and Lee Sung Jin’s Beef, respectively the opening- and closing-night TV premieres. They join the previously announced opening-night world premiere of Paramount’s Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.
This year’s closing-night film will be announced closer to the event. In addition, there is another movie to be announced for the fest’s Monday, March 13 slot. Given the Oscars on March 12 (note the festival sets their dates five years in advance), I understand that evening’s lineup will ease a bit with amped-up...

The Resident‘s sixth season may have just ended, but we’re already looking ahead — if the Fox medical drama is renewed, that is. And not only could we “possibly” see a familiar face again, according to showrunner Andrew Chapman, but we almost did in Season 5. Morris Chestnut, who played neurosurgeon Dr. Barrett Cain in Seasons 3 and 4, could return if the series continues. “We love Morris, he certainly loves the show, and we’ve talked to him a bunch about coming back,” Chapman tells TV Insider. “We almost brought him in for a three or four-episode run in Season 5, but his timing was no good; he was on something else, and then this past season, we just didn’t have room for him. So possibly.” But what would we have seen in Season 5 if Cain had returned? “In an alternate universe, Billie’s [Jessica Lucas] son [Miles Fowler’s Trevor...

After breaking out with last year’s hugely entertaining Shiva Baby, writer-director Emma Seligman is prepping to kick off production on her follow-up, Bottoms. It was already unveiled that Rachel Sennott would be reuniting to lead the film, along with co-writing the script with Seligman, and now the rest of the cast has now been announced ahead of a shoot this spring.
Deadline reports Ayo Edebiri, Marshawn Lynch, Ruby Cruz, Havana Rose Liu, Kaia Gerber, Nicholas Galitzine, Miles Fowler, Dagmara Dominczyk, and Punkie Johnson fill out the rest of the high school sex comedy. Miles Fowler is hanging up his lab coat. On April 6, TVLine reported that The Resident's season five newcomer is exiting the medical drama after only seven months on the show. Per the publication, Fowler—who joined as series regular Dr. Trevor Daniels in season five—had his final episode air on March 29. The last time we saw Dr. Billie Sutton (Jessica Lucas) and her son, Trevor (Miles Fowler), onscreen together was after he revealed he’s the proof the Medical Board needed to prove Dr. Robert Porter (Scott Cohen) raped her when she was 13. And in the March 29 episode of The Resident, we’ll see them reunite. TV Insider has an exclusive sneak peek at Trevor returning his mother’s calls. “I’m so glad you finally called,” Billie says. “Are you Ok?” He is, he confirms, explaining, “I’m sorry I took so long to get back to you. I’m just dealing with a lot of stuff.” She can understand, given what he learned, but he interrupts her before she can say too much about that. “There’s some stuff I want to tell you in person,” He says. She agrees, adding, “Just know I’ve been worried about you.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Resident Season 5 Episode 14 “Hell in a Handbasket.”] Dr. Billie Sutton (Jessica Lucas) makes the decision that’s best for her son, Trevor (Miles Fowler), in the latest episode of The Resident, only to be blindsided when he steps in to ensure that Dr. Robert Porter (Scott Cohen) doesn’t ruin her reputation. Following Billie’s statement that Porter raped her when she was 13, he sets out to discredit her, and to protect Trevor from finding out the truth about his father, she’s ready to withdraw her complaint — only for Trevor to step before the State Medical Board and reveal who he is. A DNA test will prove Billie’s telling the truth. After, she and Trevor share a hug in what star Manish Dayal called his favorite scene to direct. “There was something about [it] I always thought was special,” he tells TV Insider. “[They] have a very complicated relationship.

Billie's powerful arc came to a mostly satisfying and emotional conclusion.
As we saw, The Resident Season 5 Episode 14 juggled a couple of storylines. They ranged from the nurse shortage that prompted Jessica to negotiate a better paycheck to Padma's shocking request of Leela. However, Billie's fight against Porter was the most prominent and captivating.
Jessica Lucas was phenomenal during the hour, and Miles Fowler was excellent.
The hour also served as star Manish Dayal's directorial debut on the series, and it's always exciting when a star of a show takes a spin in that director's chair for an installment. It's such a noteworthy achievement.
The hour mainly was light on medical cases, which worked given everything else. The incident with the window washer was eye-grabbing at the start of the hour, though not nearly as much as ConRaptor "bro-ing" it out and exercising in a scene that felt tailor-made for my interest.

We're still reeling from The Resident Season 5 Episode 5's shocking final moments.
If you watched The Resident online, you'll know that after a touching Dumb Supper ritual Conrad hosted with his colleagues and friends to honor Nic one final time, he went to check on baby Gigi.
Except, it wasn't the little Gigi we've seen and fallen in love with, but an older Gigi -- a toddler who is walking and talking now.
Yes, The Resident jumped ahead three years, and that's where the series will pick up from there.
The time jump blew fans away and garnered mixed reactions.
However, here at TV Fanatic, we're excited about how this hit medical drama can revitalize itself five years in and still keep us on our toes.
A time jump was a great way to move Conrad ahead further in his grief journey, so we didn't spend the entire season with...

Devon and Winston survived their ordeal.
But by the end of The Resident Season 5 Episode 2, it was Nic's fate that left us on the edge of our seats when the police informed Conrad and Gigi that there was an accident.
Elsewhere, we met new series regular Miles Fowler as Billie's estranged biological son Trevor, and their relationship is intense.
Join Meaghan Frey, Laura Nowak, and Carissa Pavlica as they discuss the hour.
Did you appreciate the drama behind the team saving Devon and rescuing Winston, or were you thrown off by how much belief you needed to suspend for this storyline?
Meaghan: I definitely was rolling my eyes quite a bit.
The fact that Devon almost died after a short period in the room yet Winston was in there for that long and survived without issue, a watch changing colors even being noticed with everything else going on, and Conrad...
