This article contains spoilers for "Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire."
In the universe of "Ghostbusters," the supernatural entities take a variety of forms. Most notably, there are Ectoplast creatures like Slimer, Muncher, and Pukey who look like gross-out, cartoonish blobs. A more malicious spirit like Gozer the Gozerian is a Class 7 Deity of Destruction, while the Grey Lady (aka the Library Ghost) is a Class 4 Semi-Anchored Entity. Gertrude Aldridge in "Ghostbusters: Answer The Call" is similar to the Grey Lady, but fluctuates between more of a poltergeist and a Class 4 Semi-Anchored Entity. And then there's Egon Spengler himself, one of the original Ghostbusters who appeared in "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" in a spiritual form ranging from Class 2 or 3 before fully manifesting as a Class 4 Full Torso Apparition.
This is to say, "Ghostbusters" has played around with the various levels, presentations, and styles of ghosts for the last 40 years, and is still finding new...

“Where are you from? Originally?” The question Peter Venkman asks in Ghostbusters has become relevant again.
We already knew that the fifth film in the series, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, would see the return of not only the three living original Ghostbusters but also Annie Potts’s Janine as a full-fledged member of the team. But while previous reports from director Gil Kenan, who co-wrote Ghostbusters: Afterlife with that film’s director and Frozen Empire co-writer Jason Reitman, insisted that the previous film shut the door on Ivo Shandor, Gozer, and Zuul, the latest trailer for Frozen Empire shows that not every old antagonist is in the past.
The trailer opens with narrator describing a longstanding feud with the Ghostbusters, indicating a long standing grudge. “They have a minor hanging out of a moving vehicle,” the voice intones with incredulity. “Firing a laser gun.”

Before "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" brought the paranormal exterminators and the descendants of one Egon Spengler to the big screen, we were introduced to one of the new ghosts on the scene. His name was Muncher, and the bulbous blue blob felt like the successor to Slimer, the perpetually hungry green ghost of the "Ghostbusters" franchise.
In the 2021 movie, Muncher was the first specter that Phoebe, Podcast, and Trevor busted and trapped, but not before facing his munching wrath, which also including shooting shards of metal out of his mouth when cornered. Since the paranormal threats circling Summerville, Oklahoma were handily dealt with by both the young and old generations of Ghostbusters, we're not likely to see Muncher again. But it would appear he has a peculiar little heir taking his place.

There is no Gozer, only… well, we don’t know yet.
After the chaos that followed the release of 2016’s series revamp Ghostbusters: Answer the Call, Sony went full nostalgia with Ghostbusters: Afterlife in an attempt to appease change-resistant fans. The studio recruited Jason Reitman, son of original director Ivan Reitman, as well as the original four Ghostbusters (including the late Harold Ramis in CGI-ghost form). Afterlife even brought back the main villain of that first movie, Gozer the Gozerian.
In other words, it was a textbook legacy sequel that introduced a new generation of heroes while nodding to the originals, and according to Afterlife co-writer Gil Kenan, the movie’s structure demanded Gozer’s return.
“Because the Spengler family story drove the narrative in Afterlife, bringing Gozer back to centre-stage was a natural way to close the book on the past,” he told Empire. That explanation does track with...

"Live from New York, it's Saturday night!" That's the catchphrase that concludes the cold open sketch of every single episode of the iconic late-night sketch comedy show "Saturday Night Live." Soon you'll learn about all the chaos and panic that went into the debut of "SNL," launching a pop culture powerhouse that has lasted nearly 50 years.
Deadline reports that "Up in the Air" and "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" director Jason Reitman will be at the helm of a movie telling the behind-the-scenes story about how the premiere of "SNL" actually came together. The report touts the movie as "the true story of what happened that night behind the scenes in the moments leading up to the first 'SNL' broadcast, retelling chaos and magic of a revolution that almost wasn't, counting down the minutes in real time to the infamous words, 'Live From New York, it's Saturday Night.'"

Teased back in December, IllFonic has announced the first Dlc for their asymmetric multiplayer title Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed. In fact, you can play it today! Touted as the first of many free Dlc packages to play, this Dlc is free for those who have purchased the game, this Dlc pack includes a new map, new ghost and new firehall additions.
Along with tweaks to the tweaks to game matchmaking and bot AI, this new Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed Dlc includes a new map in the form of The Facility. Initially closed for good in the late 1980s, The Facility and has been recently purchased by a private investor group, who have plans to renovate and reopen it. Unfortunately for them, it’s being plagued by ghostly activity, and construction crews refuse to enter this haunted health center.

It's finally time for Ghostbusters fans from all generations to grab their proton packs, set their ghost traps, and put on a classic beige jumpsuit because Ghostbusters: Afterlife flew into theaters on Nov. 19! The sci-fi fantasy comedy is the fourth movie in the franchise, but Afterlife arrives as a direct sequel and homage to the original Ghostbusters (1984) and Ghostbusters II (1989). Although it's set in the present day, Afterlife contains so much '80s nostalgia. Director Jason Reitman, son of the original director Ivan Reitman, continues the franchise and his father's legacy by picking up where he left off and mixing the old cast with the new.
Afterlife follows Dr. Egon Spengler from the original Ghostbusters' daughter and grandchildren, Callie, Trevor, and Phoebe Spengler. Egon left the Spenglers (who have no money) his old farmhouse in Summerville, Oklahoma, which gives them a chance to start new lives.

The once-prestigious Jason Reitman has remarked that after five consecutive box office bombs he felt the need to make his own Ghostbusters to finally confront the legacy of his father Ivan. If we take this statement at face value and not as a wholly disingenuous about-face, perhaps Reitman Jr. should’ve just done the “confrontation” in-person at Reitman Sr.’s long-gone downtown Toronto restaurant where the gimmick was that the chicken was uncooked or whatever. It may have humiliated far fewer people in the process.

The voice (such as it is) of Muncher in "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" is none other than actor Josh Gad, who is best known for voicing the lovable snowman Olaf in the "Frozen" movies. The casting was confirmed by Gad himself on Twitter, who said, "Happy to be a part of the #Ghostbusters family."
Muncher is the spiritual successor to Slimer, the gooey ghost from the original 1984 movie directed by Ivan Reitman. "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" was helmed by Reitman's son, Jason Reitman, and promises a return to the franchise's roots. Muncher has a similarly blobby physique to Slimer but is set apart by his six limbs,...

In the lead-up to releasing “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” Sony has played it fairly tight-lipped about what exactly this movie might be: Is it a prequel, a sequel or some kind of spinoff? Pretty much any discussion of the answer will come as a spoiler to those who like surprises, so be warned that this review is not intended as a marketing tool for the studio (those seeking coy teasers are better off watching the trailers), but as a critique of what this unnecessary but enjoyable movie actually delivers.
The good news for “Ghostbusters” fans is that “Afterlife” does nothing to tarnish what has come before, overseen as it is by Jason Reitman, carrying on the legacy of his father (and “Ghostbusters” director) Ivan, who played an important behind-the-scenes role in shaping this 21st-century update. The franchise has made the family rich, spawning a sequel, an animated series, a comic book line and an ill-fated 2016 reboot.

The “Ghostbusters” franchise has gone through quite a few permutations in the decades since director Ivan Reitman’s original feature was released in 1984. And while the kooky spirit and basic concept of the first film remain unchanged in each iteration, from the two ’90s animated TV series to 2016’s gender-swapped reboot, the property itself is continually in a creative flux. It’s no wonder it’s going through yet another change — and showing marked growing pains in the process. Director/ co-writer Jason Reitman’s “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” hits the reboot button once more, this time carrying a familial cinematic legacy. Yet with all the nostalgia packed into the picture, its own refurbished identity is slightly compromised, functioning as .
Rebuilding from the past is the guiding sentiment of this feature, not only in terms of one family renovating their lives, but also in the way Reitman and co-writer Gil Kenan reconstruct elements foundational to the franchise.

The trailer for "Ghostbusters: Afterlife," which hits theaters in November, shows kids in the Ectomobile, deploying a gunner's seat while chasing a new ghost named Muncher across a small Oklahoma town. If you want to get a better look at Muncher, you won't have to chase him all that far. Sony Pictures has released a couple of new promo images for the movie, one of which features the blue, Slimer-like specter in all his fire-hydrant-guzzling glory.
