Captivatingly showcasing the intense physical and emotional torment of the lead character is one of the most important elements of effectively frightening audiences of any horror film. Since that main character is often the protagonist who viewers often hope can escape their menacing tormenters, it’s not often that a seemingly horrific villain can begin to garner sympathy from from the audience. But that long-needed overhaul of the often predictable inspirations the diversely-motivated characters have in horror movies grippingly occurs in the new independent horror film, ‘Anarchy Parlor.’ The unique story, which is now playing in theaters and on VOD, was the creation of writers Devon Downs and Kenny Gage, who [ Read More ]

Out today in select AMC theatres and also available on VOD is the horror film Anarchy Parlor, the feature directorial debut of Kenny Gage and Devon Downs. In our latest Q&A, we caught up with Gage, Downs, and actress Tiffany DeMarco to discuss filming Anarchy Parlor in Lithuania, writing the movie with Robert Lasardo in mind, shooting in a real 12th century dungeon, and much more.
How and when did you guys initially come up with the idea for Anarchy Parlor?
Kenny Gage: Devon and I have been friends for years. We are fans of the "realism" style of horror and were looking to make a film that felt familiar, yet very different. We read a crazy article about the 17th century practice of binding books in human skin and knowing that this film was looking to become a reality, it truly gave us the inspiration to take our story to another level.

Screamfest La continues to heat up, despite the weather cooling down. Devon Downs and Kenny Gage's (Raze) Parlor will play at this year's festival. In fact, this film will have its World Premiere there, this October 14th, 2014. The film takes a note from Eli Roth's Hostel (2005) as several vacationers are trapped and tortured, in Eastern Europe. Parlor centrally stars Robert Lasardo (Death Race) Anthony Del Negro (Deep in the Darkness) and Jordan James Smith. A preview of the film's launch is hosted here. In the story, six friends head out to Eastern Europe for fun, partying and good times. The dark clouds descend when they encounter a strange tattoo artist. Now, they find themselves trapped deep, below ground. Escape is out of the question, but torture is on the schedule. The film's first poster is hosted here. The graphic shows actor Lasardo as the Artist. He has already dipped his inker into blood.

Director: Josh C. Waller. Writers: Robert Beaucage, Kenny Gage and Josh C. Waller. Cast: Zoë Bell, Rachel Nichols, Tracie Thoms and Bruce Thomas. The female prison movies of the '60s and '70s focused on sexploitation. In these films, semi-naked shower scenes and brawls were plentiful. But, the filmmakers of Raze have chosen to alter this genre from the sexy to the blood-filled. In Raze, several characters partake in an all women fighting tournament, which lasts until there is only one survivor. Director Josh C. Waller and the writing team of Robert Beaucage and Kenny Gage have created a thrilling action focused tale, here. Dramatic elements and characterizations are relegated to a few scenes of dialogue and flashbacks. Instead of focusing exclusively on the characters and story, Raze deals with one woman's struggle out of bloodsport and her battle with psychopathic tournament directors. Raze's violent visual spectacle is...

"To stare at 2000 words of dialogue that was written for me, to some extent, and channeled through the writers, Kenny Gage and Devon Downs, was at first a bit overwhelming,...

The film, written by Robert Beaucage, stars Zoe Bell, Rachel Nichols, Tracie Thoms and Sherilyn Fenn, and made its world premiere at last month’s Tribeca Film Festival. Cinipix financed Raze. The film was produced by Kenny Gage and Andy Pagana. Raze follows Sabrina, a woman who is mysteriously abducted and held captive in an underground lair, where she is forced to do battle with other innocents for the amusement of unseen spectators. Each of these reluctant warriors has something to lose, but only one will remain when the game is done. Jonathan Sehring, President of Sundance Selects/IFC Films, said: “Josh Waller has crafted the most intense and unique action film that we have seen in a long time. With the magnificent Zoe Bell leading a strong female cast, Raze delivers and then some.

Watch the trailer and see the first poster for Josh C. Waller's Raze, starring Zoe Bell and Rachel Nichols, as well as Tracie Thoms, Sherilyn Fenn, Doug Jones, Bruce Thomas, Rebecca Marshall and Rosario Dawson. In all honesty, I've never heard of this one, but it's good to see Bell working with Thoms again after the Grindhouse's Death Proof segment bac in 2007. I recall speaking to both of them at the Atlanta Motor Speedway about that one, time flies. Moving on... Waller helms the film, and also wrote the story alongside Kenny Gage and Robert Beaucage, who in turn wrote the script. Raze opens April 21st, 2013 and is produced by Andrew Pagana, Gage, Waller and Bell.

Hot on the bloody heels of recently wrapped horror battle film Raze, Cinipix and Slater Brothers Entertainment are set to produce another gritty action/drama feature, The Devil’s Ink. Raze producer Kenny Gage and Devon Downs have written and are set to direct the film, which will go into production in October. Todd Slater and Andy Pagana, also of Raze, are slated to produce.
The Devil’s Ink cast includes Raze’s Zoe Bell (Oblivion, Django Unchained), Rj Mitte (Breaking Bad), Robert Lasardo (Death Race, Nip/Tuck), Richard Cabral (End of Watch, Southland), Sandra Vergara (Fright Night, God Bless America), Shayla Beesley and Louis Iacoviello.
When sexy ex-con Samantha Black (Bell) finds her Venice Beach tattoo parlor at the center of a scandal involving two dirty cops and the sex trafficking of underaged girls, her retribution is swift, bloody — think Cohen Brothers on ‘roids and Red Bull — and hardcore to the bone.

Last Friday, June 22nd, this writer hit the set of Josh C. Waller’s then-shooting action/horror feature Raze and while there chatted with the flick’s writer and co-producer Robert Beaucage as well as two of the film’s stars, Zoe Bell and Tracie Thoms.
Our second visit to Raze (we spent some time on set last year when it was envisioned as a web series and was shooting in South L.A.; watch our interview with Zoe Bell, Rachel Nichols and Josh C. Waller here) took place at Illusion Industries in Burbank, California. This time we found the project has grown into a feature length film, following the pre-sales it garnered at Cannes, and the addition of Quincy Studios, which has paired with Cosmic Toast Studios on the production.
