X-Files Recap is a weekly column by Keith Uhlich covering Chris Carter's 10-episode continuation of the X-Files television series. How do you follow the end of the world? Hold that thought. Let’s start with another question, one of the previous year’s most pressing: Is it film or is it television? I could be talking about David Lynch and Mark Frost’s Twin Peaks revival, which I covered for Mubi this past summer, and which caused quite a stir after it placed second in Sight & Sound magazine’s 2017 movie poll, as well as first on a year-end list from the French film journal Cahiers du cinéma. I could also be talking about the subject of this column, the long-running science-fiction serial The X-Files, which just returned on January 3rd for a ten episode 11th season, and which its creator—guru-like surfing journalist-turned-tv showrunner Chris Carter—has often equated with making a weekly “mini-movie.

We really wanted to believe Fox would drop an X-Files trailer at New York Comic-Con, and, guess what? Fox dropped an X-Files trailer at New York Comic-Con!
The breakneck two-minute promo — unveiled at the beginning of Sunday’s X-Files panel and embedded above for your viewing pleasure — offers the first footage from the latest revival (aka Season 11) and, as we suspected/hoped, the 10-episode run appears to center largely on Mulder and Scully’s “very special” (and potentially dangerous) son William.

Read on for the synopsis.
It started with a picture. It was a picture of a pretty, ambitious, self-dependent young woman sitting in a coffee shop, in-between college classes. In it, she was minding her own business, occupied with schoolwork and distracted by a boyfriend she loved very much. Her name was Jennifer Taylor and she didn’t know the picture had been taken. She also didn’t know the person who took it. The same person who would take her too.

With Drive-In Massacre producer Brandon Sites promised sex, drugs, a drive-in and, of course, a massacre. He then went on to ponder "what else could you want?". ...well, there was one thing missing. How about a little rock n' roll? Jonathan Tiersten, who so memorably starred in Sleepaway Camp, Return to Sleepaway Camp & The Perfect House, has just signed on to star in Drive-In Massacre.
Jonathan Tiersten is able to convey that bad boy sensibility effortlessly. There is something inherently exciting and dangerous about that kind of persona on screen which seamlessly lends itself to a slasher. He was that missing element that will bring it all together in Drive-In Massacre.
Drive-In Massacre is about a cursed drive-in movie theater. A group of college aged kids who ignored all the signs. Now, one fateful night he will make them pay for their indiscretions.... in Blood!!!
