(Spoiler alert: Please don’t read on if you haven’t watched Monday’s season finale of “American Idol”)
Sorry, ABC’s inaugural “American Idol” winner Maddie Poppe — you’ve already been outshined. On Monday, Jimmy Kimmel brought together a bunch of forgotten “Idol” alums like William Hung, Sanjaya Malakar, Chewbacca Girl, and the “Pants on the Ground” guy, “General” Larry Platt, for an all-star parody performance of “We Are the World.”
With all due respect to Sanjaya, there were also some actual good singers in the mix — even winners Taylor Hicks and Ruben Studdard showed up for the gag.

Antonella Barba, Kevin Covais, Haley Reinhart, Scott MacIntyre, and Reynaldo Lapuz also participated in the pre-taped sketch. Be honest, reader: How many of them do you actually remember?
Anyway, the entire premise was one big “Where are they now?...

In celebration of American Idol‘s Season 16 finale on Monday night, Jimmy Kimmel hosted the Idol reunion we never knew we wanted. (Well, “wanted” is a term we use loosely.)
In the video above, Idol rejects from years past — everyone from William “She Bangs” Hung to Sanjaya Malakar to Trista Giese, aka Chewbacca Girl — gather to update us on their careers via the original ditty “Where Are They Now?”
Some notable updates from the onetime contestants: Malakar works at a bar (but does construction on the side!), Season 5 competitor Kevin Covais is a notary public “right here in L.A.

Jimmy Kimmel reunited a number of familiar faces from American Idol on Monday night's Jimmy Kimmel Live!
The ABC host welcomed past stars such as Sanjaya Malakar, Scott MacIntyre, Kevin Covais, Antonella Barba and tone-deaf fan favorite William Hung for a special "Where are They Now" musical segment.
The former Idol-ers came together in studio to record a song akin to 1985's megastar mashup "We Are the World," that had each singer explaining what they've been up to since their season of the popular singing show. Such doings included being a notary public "right here in ...

It's the end of an era on American Idol, as the audition process draws to its conclusion for the final time.
From the highs (Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood) to the lows (Kenneth Briggs, Jonathan Jayne, damn right you sent them to the Super Bowl), the viral (William Hung, Larry Platt) to the Cowell-panned split decisions (Taylor Hicks, Chris Daughtry), all the way down to the vote-for-the-worst crowd that stuck around way too long (Sanjaya Malakar, Kevin Covais, Tim Urban), Idol auditions have been ingrained in pop culture for the past decade and a half.

American Idol's first official couple Diana DeGarmo and Ace Young tied the knot at the Luxe Sunset Boulevard Hotel in Los Angeles Saturday afternoon and it was an emotional day for the couple. Former "American Idol" finalists Ace Young and Diana DeGarmo are now husband and wife.
The couple married Saturday (June 1) in front of about 250 guests at a hotel in Beverly Hills. Among those in attendance were several fellow "Idol" alumni, including Elliott Yamin, Kevin Covais and Michael Johns.
DeGarmo, 25, and Young, 32, competed on different seasons of "Idol" -- she was the runner-up in Season 3, and he finished seventh in Season 5 -- and met while performing in a Broadway production of "Hair" in 2009. They got engaged at last year's "Idol" finale.
DeGarmo wore a dress by Sareh Nouri at the ceremony, accessorized with blue cowboy boos. The couple wrote their own vows for the ceremony and also penned a song called "I Do" for the occasion.

Or could we be in for an Angie Miller shocker? (No.) The elimination carousel continues on American Idol Thursday, and it's difficult to know what to expect on a number of fronts. The first week of results shows featured Bon Jovi and Phillip Phillips, and we got tons of filler, a top 3, rankings from 4-10 and rapid-fire results. Then last week, featuring Michelle Kwan mini-J-Lo Jessica Sanchez and Casey Abrams, we got a ton of filler, a Bottom three and no rankings at all. Who knows what's on tap tonight?
Actually, there are a couple of things that are certain: Lots of filler, performances by American Idol alum (present company included) and a guy going home. Keith Urban, OneRepublic and Katharine McPhee and Colton Dixon will hit the stage, squeezing in three performances around some form of elimination, as the show once again fails to land any outside superstars.

The Grammys are this Sunday, which is exciting for award show fans and depressing for people who think those awards should go to the right people. Sigh. Here are five current artists still in need of official Grammy love.
5. Scissor Sisters
(source)
Since the Scissor Sisters emerged a decade ago, their style has remained as quirky and danceable as anything Lady Gaga's ever produced, yet the Grammys haven't been as keen to reward the ragtag group with their due props. They've only been nominated once in the Best Dance Recording category, where the group's take on "Comfortably Numb" lost to Britney Spears' sole moment of brilliance, "Toxic." Where's the love for "I Don't Feel Like Dancin'"? Or this year's wickedly saucy "Let's Have a Kiki"?
4. Adam Lambert

Jordin Sparks isn't the first "American Idol" star to step away from the reality boob tube and give Hollywood a go, and she won't be the last. Her loosely biographical movie "Sparkle" — also featuring the late Whitney Houston, Mike Epps and Cee-Lo Green — is but the latest instance of an "Idol" star getting a close-up on the big screen.
The movie successes of Sparks' predecessors in "Idol" alumni-hood have been a mixed bag of total wins and, well, sheer embarrassment. So, how will the season six-winning songstress' flick fare?
Let's compare "Idol" in Hollywood notes to find out.

We’ll frequently associate Jon Favreau with the big directing efforts — Elf, Iron Man 1 & 2, Cowboys & Aliens — but there’s a pretty decent career in comedic acting to be found on his resume, too. Swingers and I Love You, Man aren’t what I’d deem all-timers (Couples Retreat is on a whole other level), but they’re enough to warrant even an inkling of desire to see him embrace more screen time.
Thankfully, Variety reports that he, Mary-Charles Jones, and Maggie Elizabeth Jones will be taking roles in Seth Gordon‘s Identity Thief; Favreau is playing the boss of Jason Bateman‘s character, while the two siblings have been cast as the daughters of he and Amanda Peet. Fall behind keeping up with headlines on Twitter? Never fear, EW.com has your round-up of this week’s biggest American Idol news.
Baseball stadiums across the nation are hosting opening day for their respective teams, and that means you may see one of your favorite Idol alums out on the field singing the national anthem. On Thursday, that honor went to season 10 Idol, Haley Reinhart, who sang a beautiful rendition of the “Star Spangled Banner” before the Detroit Tigers home opener against the Boston Red Sox. Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin are the onscreen equivalent of peaches and cream (or any pleasing combination, actually), but the latest casting on Jason Reitman‘s Labor Day might just be my favorite. As Variety reports, Tom Lipinski (Suits) is the top choice to play a young version of Brolin‘s character — specifically, “Frank Chambers an escaped convict who seeks shelter with a depressed single mom (Winslet) and her young son over a long Labor Day weekend.”
In flashback sequences, we’ll encounter Frank as a young Vietnam veteran who discovers that, twixt his departure and return, the love of his life is “no longer the innocent teenage girl he left behind.”And while I haven’t a clue if Lipinski is actually a decent actor — these sounds like crucial scenes, in the grand emotional scheme of things — the resemblance between the both of them is almost too good to pass up.

Anchor Bay has acquired North American distribution rights to Touchback, the Don Handfield-directed gridiron drama that stars Kurt Russell, Brian Presley, Melanie Lynskey, Christine Lahti, Drew Powell, Kevin Covais and Marc Blucas. The plan is to release the film next year. Presley stars as a struggling farmer and former football hero who laments scoring the winning touchdown in the Ohio State High School Championship game years ago, because he injured his knee and was robbed of a pro career. He goes back in time to the week before the game and struggles over whether to call a different play, and whether he should marry his shigh school sweetheart. Handfield wrote the script, and Freedom Films’ Brian Presley, Kevin Matusow and Carissa Buffel produced. Anchor Bay’s Kevin Kasha brokered the deal with Gersh’s Jay Cohen. Hannibal Classics is handling foreign sales.

ABC Family execs have certainly been busy with the renewals and cancellations. The cable channel has renewed Make It or Break It and Switched at Birth, ordered more episodes of The Lying Game, and cancelled The Nine Lives of Chloe King. Now, they've cancelled sitcom State of Georgia as well.
In the TV series formerly titled The Great State of Georgia, Raven Symone stars as aspiring actress Georgia Chamberlain who leaves the south to pursue her dreams in New York City. She's joined by Josephina "Jo" Pye (Majandra Delfino), her timid best friend and a graduate student in physics. Honey Dupree (Loretta Devine) is Georgia's nymphomaniac aunt who offers advice and owns the apartment where they live. Recurring characters are played by Kevin Covais, Hasan Minhaj, and Jason Rogel.
State of Georgia ran for 12 episodes, between late June and mid-August of this year.

Sure the rules of the contest are repeated ad nauseum throughout the show, and of course many of the contestants profess that this is the biggest/only/last chance they will have to make the big time, but NBC's The Voice scored another charming episode Tuesday night as the coaches finalized their teams. Anyone else thing the theme song sounds eerily close to the one from the variety show Solid Gold? Last week, Maroon 5's Adam Levine, along with Blake Shelton, Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green, selected three of eight team members in the first blind audition episode,...

"American Idol" takes on the crazy town of Los Angeles, CA Thursday night (Feb. 3), plus the MySpace auditions are in the house. So in "Idol" land it's still 2004? Got it.
That makes sense, since this episode is almost wall-to-wall bad/crazy auditions and that schtick hasn't been funny since then.
Victoria Garrett is the first audition of the night and you can just tell by her crazy outfit from 1984, her God talk and her starry-eyed attitude that she is going to suck. And she does. Why do we have to watch those? Hilariously, afterwards she says, "I let my nerves get the best of me."
This episode's resident J.Lo-lover is Tim Halperin with "She Will Be Loved." The lower stuff is nice, but he doesn't quite have the chops to do the high stuff on the chorus. But the whole narrative of this guy's audition is his love for Jennifer Lopez,...

Who is on the casting couch today? Well, pretty well-named actors, if we say so ourselves. Kurt Russell is lining up a role in a small football-themed Wonderful Life tale, Will Ferrell apparently learned some Spanish from Baxter the dog, as he set to star in a Spanish language film, and finally, Sean Penn is capable of editing genius in a biopic that has struggled to get made in tinsel town. Though he didn't enjoy as strong a career revival as John Travolta after Pulp Fiction, some credit is due to Quentin Tarantino for giving a bit of a recent boost to Kurt Russell by making him the crazy villain of his grindhouse feature Death Proof. He's got a few smaller films lined up like Waco and Undying, but Freedom Films announced today via press release that Russell will fill shoes not too dissimilar from some he's already worn. Russell will take on a role as a high school football coach in Touchback, the feature directorial debut of Don Handfield. Though it doesn't sound as inspiring as Miracle, sports fans may be interested anyway. Joining Russell will be: Brian Presley, Melanie Lynskey (Up in the Air) as his wife, Christine Lahti , Marc Blucas (Knight and Day), Drew Powell (1408), Sarah Wright (House Bunny), Sianoa Smit-McPhee (Hung) and Kevin Covais (College). Kurt Russell is coming back to the big screen as a high school football coach in "Touchback". Kurt has already played a player-turned-coach character in 2004's Miracle ( I had accidentally put 1994. The reader who corrected me was a douche. So I banned him. That's what happens when you don't play nice.), so this should be old hat for Kurt. Here's the press release:Freedom Films named Kurt Russell as the head high-school football coach in Writer/Director Don Handfield’s Touchback, which stars Brian Presley (Home of the Brave), Melanie Lynskey as his wife, (Up in the Air, The Informant, Sweet Home Alabama) and Academy Award and Golden Globe winner Christine Lahti as his mother (Obsessed, Smart People).
