Richard Rawlings, the owner of Gas Monkey Garage and star of Fast ‘N Loud, is known for two things. First, he makes outstanding cars. Anyone who’s seen the show knows you can count on Gas Monkey to put out some genuinely fantastic refurbished and upgraded vehicles. Secondly, he’s also unfortunately known for his attitude. The Gas Monkey himself tends to be as fast and loud as his machines. He’s quick to temper and has been described as spoiled and childish by associates. We don’t know how much of that is accurate and how much is for show, but when you

It’s easy to underestimate Richard Ray Rawlings. As the star of the Discovery Channel’s Fast N Loud, he searches for dilapidated cars and restores them for profit with the help of the Gas Monkey Garage crew. It’s decidedly blue collar — and his matter-of-fact way of speaking belies his extraordinary success.
But Rawlings, 48, is a more than a mechanic, and he has the resume to prove it. He’s a former firefighter, paramedic, and law enforcement officer. In addition to his reality shows, he owns several businesses, including a garage, a live music venue, and several restaurants. His...

I probably watch too many car shows. Check that, I definitely watch too many car shows. It started with Top Gear on BBC America and from there, it’s just morphed into this thing where the car shows seem to have become my guilty pleasure.
I’d really love to blame a friend who once asked me “Don’t you watch anything happy?” because when she asked what I was watching, I told her The Walking Dead, which is just one in a long list of horror/fantasy shows that I’ve been viewing regularly. But, if I’m going to be honest with myself, I’ve been watching car shows since before that incident. When it comes to actual cars, I can change a tire and change the oil, swap out a battery, change the windshield wiper blades, fill up the radiator, and fill up the power steering fluid.
