How great was “The Afterparty?” Chris Miller’s Apple comedy in which murder suspects retell one fateful night in multiple genres became a breakout hit in 2022, renewed for an unexpected yet welcome second season. The new installment premieres Wednesday with two episodes that introduce a new cast, murder, and genres — not quite as exceptional as Season 1, but still enjoyable.
Returning to the scene of the crime are Sam Richardson as Aniq, Tiffany Haddish as now-former detective Danner, and Zoë Chao as Zoe, a year into dating Aniq and taking him to her younger sister Grace’s (Poppy Liu) wedding. When groom Edgar (Zach Woods) is found dead the morning after the ceremony (and shockingly muted after party), Aniq and Danner team up to speak with the eclectic inner circle of guests and find Edgar’s killer.

For Meredith Markworth-Pollack, Linda Tripp (Sarah Paulson) proved to be the hardest character to design costumes for on the FX limited series, “Impeachment: American Crime Story.” “She was almost six feet, which is very tall for a woman and she had these very broad shoulders and so I think that was the hardest part of the project,” she tells Gold Derby during our recent webchat (watch the exclusive video interview above). She also described how it was more than just a padding that gave Paulson the look of the character. “It was really about changing her whole demeanor because if you’re that tall and your shoulders are like this, you have a presence whether you want to or not.”
“Impeachment,” which can currently be streamed on FX on Hulu, explores the affair between President Bill Clinton (Clive Owen) and White House intern Monica Lewinsky (Beanie Feldstein), how Tripp taped...

The relationship between costume designers and actors is an intimate one, veteran designer Meredith Markworth-Pollack, currently working on the CW’s “Dynasty,” knows. While the designer has a clear vision for a character’s look, he or she must also take into consideration actors’ needs so they are comfortable. For “Dynasty,” Markworth-Pollack often faces the challenge of making couture statement pieces extremely functional in order to withstand catfights.
What was your inspiration for getting into the world of costume design?
I was studying film at Ucsb and we watched [Robert Altman’s] “Nashville” — I think it was a ’70s cinema class — and I don’t know why but it was like the first time I was really paying attention to everyone’s wardrobe. And it was something that we addressed about the film, and I just remember thinking, “Oh wait, somebody dressed every single character.” And it was such a...

If you're looking for fashion on TV, look no further than the CW's Dynasty. Based on the high-fashion 80s soap of the same name and featuring a family with oodles of money, it's a whole new world of couture for women and men, with suits most could only dream of and breakfast attire that only the most money can buy. We visited the set of the new series and even took a little tour of the costume department, courtesy of costume designer Meredith Markworth-Pollack, to find out exactly how to dress like a Carrington, and which character might have hit the wardrobe jackpot. tktk For those wanting to actually emulate the fashion of Dynasty, Markworth-Pollack says...

Caitlin Stasey portrayed Lady Kenna from 2013 until 2015. The Australian beauty from Melbourne, Victoria was chosen for her role as one of the four ladies-in-waiting for Mary, Queen of Scots because a show producer, Meredith Markworth-Pollack saw her photo and thought Caitlin was perfect. Caitlin closely matched the pilot description of a girl who is bohemian, relaxed and earthy. Caitlin richly fulfilled the role of Kenna. The saga of the sexual, sassy, strong and willful Kenna begins when the ladies-in-waiting, by royal custom, observe, for the first time, royals consummating their wedding night. The girls leave, and Kenna subsequently

Apologies to Adelaide Kane and her costars-in-waiting, but your costumes are totally stealing the spotlight on Reign! We've been obsessed with the gorgeous gowns and to-die-for headbands ever since we first laid eyes on the CW's breakout drama. So obsessed, in fact, that we may or may not have stalked the woman responsible for the fashion on the show. (Hey, who hasn't procured a restraining order at least once in their lifetime?!) We chatted with Reign's super-talented costume designer Meredith Markworth-Pollack, who previously worked on Hart of Dixie and Gossip Girl (What a pedigree!), about how she found established each of the girls' looks on the period drama. While Mary (Kane) and...

What's five centuries among friends? Especially when we're talking terrific fashion.
In The CW's "Reign," the young Mary Stuart (Adelaide Kane) arrives in France for an arranged marriage to Prince Francis (Toby Regbo). Their wardrobes befit young royalty, but rather than the strictures of 16th-century court wear, with stiff frills and angular silhouettes, the costumes are an artistic blend of modern and period.
When costume designer Meredith Markworth-Pollack began working on the show, the idea was to create, "something slightly different to the costume dramas we had seen so far, especially because of the demographic of The CW, and bring in the element of contemporary fashion."
There are a few edicts, though. No petticoats, no tights for men and no hip rolls for women. Fashionable in the Elizabethan era, hip rolls were essentially cushions worn at the hips to make the waist look smaller.
