Stars: Katie Groshong, Brandy Edmiston, Larry Fessenden, Eller Hall, Scott Hodges, Stephanie Kinkle | Written and Directed by Chad Crawford Kinkle
Cults are a classic horror film troupe for good reason… In Dementer our protagonist Katie (Katie Groshong) runs away from a cult and takes a job caring for people with special needs in a centre. Our opening scene of running naked through the woods, with some surreal horror elements is suitably tense and peculiar.
Our “low on background checks” special needs centre plays out in the manner of a fly on the wall documentary and it works rather well. Katie gets involved with the patients drawing and colouring. She seems to care about the people, and she is clearly off to a good start. She befriends one of the patients, Stephanie, in particular/ Sadly, her past seems to be just behind her. She has tried to mystically protect herself,...

Dementer is a new horror film from writer/director Chad Crawford Kinkle (Jugface) that explores the unstoppable, unpredictable nature of evil.
Katie (Katie Groshong) has recently escaped life inside a strange cult (led by genre fave Larry Fessenden), and is looking to make a fresh start. Living out of her car, and with nowhere to go, she finds a glimpse of hope when she secures a job at a disability resource center. She seems to fit right in—she interacts well with the residents, displays an air of responsibility, and genuinely feels like she might be able to make a positive contribution in this role.
However, Katie’s ties to her past life might not be that easily severed. Within days of starting her new position, she begins experiencing sudden headaches, which lead to flashbacks of the world that she left behind. The flashbacks themselves feel like puzzle pieces to...

Chad Crawford Kinkle's horror flick Dementer, starring Katie Groshong and Larry Fessenden, will be available on digital platforms March 2nd from Dark Star Pictures. The official trailer was released today. Check it out below. Our own, Dr. Shelagh Rowan-Legg, caught Dementer when it played at the Nashville Film Festival back in 2019. Here are a couple excerpts from her review, followed by the press release. The result is what you might call an analog portrayal of cult and ritual, of belief and trauma, one that relies on its actors and post-production sound editing to convey its story; I write this as a complement, as the films relies on its wits and an audience that is keen to follow where the literal and metaphorical...

"The sophomore feature from writer/director Chad Crawford Kinkle, whose 2013 film Jug Face made waves across the indie genre scene, Dementer is daring, full-force arthouse horror that pulls absolutely no punches.
Katie, a young woman determined to do something positive with her life after fleeing from a backwoods cult, takes a job at a center for special needs adults. Desperately attempting to live a normal life, she is overwhelmed by signs that “the devils” are after Stephanie (newcomer Stephanie Kinkle), a woman with Down Syndrome that she now cares for.
Using writings from a strange notebook, Katie creates rituals to ward away the evil while taking care of Stephanie at the center and in her home. But nothing seems to work, and Stephanie is becoming sicker with each passing day.

"I don't sleep much anyway..." Smithland Films has debuted an official trailer for this indie horror thriller called Dementer, the second feature from filmmaker Chad Crawford Kinkle (of Jug Face previously). This is premiering at the Nashville Film Festival coming up this month, hence this new trailer to promote that festival debut. After fleeing a creepy backwoods cult, a woman tries to turn her life around by taking a job in a home for special needs adults only to discover that she must face her dark past to save a down syndrome girl. Described as a "daring, full-force arthouse horror that pulls absolutely no punches." Starring Katie Groshong, Stephanie Kinkle, Brandy Edmiston, Eller Hall, and Larry Fessenden. An odd trailer. This reminds me a bit of Ben Wheatley's Kill List, especially with that eerie blood logo. Check it out below. Here's the first trailer (+ teaser poster) for Chad Crawford Kinkle's Dementer,...

I love this story! Chris St. Croix and David Buchert are the co-creators of a new web series entitled Night Terrors. They've had the first episode, "The Keeper", taken down from several sites around the internet for containing "objectionable content". Well, the boys contacted Dread Central with their conundrum, and (being the fans of objectionable content that we are) we said, "Boys, you've got a home."
St. Croix and Buchert have teamed with Dread Central to share Night Terrors with a group of people they know are fucked up enough to enjoy their work: the twisted Dread Central fan base. This offering, "Episode 1: The Keeper", was written by St. Croix and produced by Buchert and stars Katie Groshong, Emily Byrd, Tristan Jackson, Clay Brocker, Jordan Stephens, Adam Sanner, and Scott Aaker. The runtime is 25 minutes.
