The legendary Alvin Ailey Dance Theater is back with its annual holiday program. The blockbuster show began with “Blue Suite,” choreographed by Ailey in 1958 when he was just 27, reflecting the black experience in a barrelhouse in southern Texas, where he hailed from. The piece reflects his memories of bawdy nights of revels. “Duet,” by Paul Taylor, followed with the beautifully simple tale of a young couple in love. “Four For,” by Robert Battle with music by Wynton Marsalis, joyfully depicts the manic energy of the pandemic lockdown era. The program ended with the iconic signature piece “Revelations” that, as always, brought down the house.

Walmart has such sights to show you. The retail giant is apparently in the extradimensional sadomasochism game, as they now sell the puzzle box from Hellraiser as, why not, a kids toy.
Marketed as a Stem building toy, the Hellraiser puzzle box has this description on the Walmart website: “The configuration puzzle cube can move and change shape like in a movie. It can be an educational toy to help children build self-esteem and confidence, develop spatial awareness, train memory skills, and exercise hand-eye coordination.”
The Hellraiser puzzle box depicted is known as the Lament Configuration, designed by the fictional Philip LeMarchand. And since it is used as a door to other dimensions, you absolutely do not want your child to solve it–unless you want Butterball and Chatterer the Cenobites reading “Goodnight Moon” to them before bed.
Ah, the brain games. The sweet, sweet brain games. pic.twitter.com...

Theatre is the quintessential art of reinterpretation. Every time a play is revived it is “remade”. With something so joyously provisional, why would you want to be definitive? And so with that in mind, let’s be clear that what follows is not some Olympian effort to decree “the best plays of all time”. Instead, it is a selection of pieces we find continually rewarding.
Inevitably, such a list reflects the work that’s staged, celebrated, and studied in the UK; it draws on a western canon. There are more men than women, more white writers than people of colour, although limiting ourselves to a single work by any author – dead white male or not – should help to widen the scope a little; yes, that means only one play by Shakespeare. We hope you will check out these plays – ideally in performance but, if you can’t find one, by reading the text.

A full Free Movie of the Day is posted on the JoBlo Movies YouTube channel every day of the week – but on Fridays things get a little freakier and a little more fun. Get your weekend started the right way by indulging in Friday Fright Nights! Every Friday, we’ll be taking a look at another genre movie you can watch in its entirety, free of charge, either on the YouTube channel linked above or in the video embed here.

Pinhead isn’t Pinhead. Any Clive Barker fan will be quick to point out that the iconic character from the beloved adaptation of the novel The Hellbound Heart is credited as Lead Cenobite, and known in the fiction as “the Priest,” a devotee of a dark, arcane religion. But in an era of gimmicky slashers like Freddy, Leatherface, and Jason, the Priest needed a catchier sobriquet, and so he was dubbed Pinhead, much to Barker’s chagrin. But even as it became increasingly standard, the name always seemed like an ill-fitting title for the elegant character portrayed by Doug Bradley.
For those reasons, director David Bruckner had no qualms about casting Jamie Clayton as the Priest for his Hellraiser reboot, which comes to Hulu on October 7. “We always knew that [a female Pinhead] made sense given the history of the franchise and the kinds of fans that have embraced it,” Bruckner told The Hollywood Reporter.

The character now known as Pinhead first appeared in Clive Barker's 1986 novel "The Hellbound Heart," as merely one of a small group of supernatural sadomasochists from beyond the grave. A character named Frank, a sexual hedonist on a mad search for the ultimate sensual experience, solves a mystical puzzle box that magically summons threatening, leather-clad beings called Cenobites. The Cenobites have long since shed their humanity in devotion to S&m-inflected sensory overload which requires their bodies to be in a constant state of mutilation. The Pinhead Cenobite, not expressly male or female, was described thus:
"Its voice, unlike that of its companion, was light and breathy -- the voice of an excited girl. Every inch of its head had been tattooed with an intricate grid, and at every intersection of horizontal and vertical axes a jeweled pin driven through to the bone. Its tongue was similarly decorated."

It's only a matter of weeks now until the dark priest of hell shows us all such sights with Hulu's new take on "Hellraiser." Based on Cliver Barker's novella "The Hellbound Heart," this new film from director David Bruckner ("The Night House") seems less concerned with whether it serves as a remake, reimagining, or sequel, and more with the prospect of making Pinhead scary again.
The film stars Hiam Abbass, Odessa A'zion, Adam Faison, Brandon Flynn, Aoife Hinds, Selina Lo, Drew Starkey, and Goran Visnjic. Little is known of what "Hellraiser" is all about besides another group of curious minds toying with the deadly Lament Configuration, but the brief synopsis shows that, much like Ashley Laurence's Kirsty Cotton, another poor soul is about to come face to face with the infamous leader of the Cenobites known as Pinhead:

The teaser, embedded above, for the Hellraiser reboot gave us a glimpse of Jamie Clayton (Sense8) as Pinhead, and yesterday we got the first actual picture of Clayton’s Pinhead. Fans have been sharing their opinions on this take on the character… but what does the original Pinhead, Doug Bradley, think about Clayton stepping into the role that made him a genre icon? Our friends at Bloody Disgusting shared what Bradley had to say about the casting while he was making an appearance at the Silver Scream Con in Massachusetts:
It seemed like [a female Pinhead] was coming. It’s an interesting piece of casting. I don’t know Jamie. Of course, they’ve taken even a little bit of a wrinkle in that, because Jamie is transgender. I’m not familiar with her recent work, but there was a science fiction series on Netflix several years ago called Sense8, which I was quite a fan of.

Vice TV is adding another “Dark Side” series to its growing fan-favorite franchise with spinoff “Dark Side of Comedy,” Variety has learned exclusively.

Director David Del Rio and writer Justin Xavier, the duo who gave us the twisted Christmas story Sick for Toys, are back with Road Head, a bizarre, raunchy, and occasionally bloody, horror comedy with a distinct LGBTQ+ element. Can this tale of a road trip from hell bring you satisfaction? Or is this one time you should actually decline road head?
Bryan (Clayton Farris; Foster Boy) and his boyfriend Alex just wanted to go on a road trip to Isola Lake out in the desert. Unfortunately Bryan’s bestie Stephanie (Elizabeth Grullon; Killing Lazarus) got dumped by her boyfriend and decides to play third wheel despite the fact she and Alex don’t get along.
To make matters worse the lake turns out to be dried out.

“We have such sights to show you.”

In having same day releases with its predecessor, Hellraiser: Revelations, the two most recent Hellraiser films now sit alongside the original trilogy as having official UK Blu-ray releases.
Originally released in 2018, Hellraiser: Judgment opens in the bizarre fashion of a tramp sex offender strapped into a wheelchair, with his blood fueling the ink of a typewriter, confessing his sins to a morbid-looking auditor – played excellently by writer-director Gary J. Tunnicliffe. What follows is wildly sadistic and grotesque, all appearing before the title sequence too – a very fair warning for what you’re in for! The plot...

Hellraiser has always been a major piece of the horror puzzle, and with a legion of fans, it’s still a franchise that’s stronger than ever. The journey began with an adaptation of Clive Barker’s The Hellbound Heart and continued for many years with the legendary Doug Bradley as Pinhead. Since the original encounter with his Cenobite Hell Priest, he’s become a character that will never die.

When it comes to the horror genre, there are many, many icons. From A Nightmare on Elm Street‘s Freddy Krueger to Friday the 13th‘s Jason Voorhees, and Halloween‘s Michael Myers to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre‘s Leatherface, over the years we’ve seen countless characters go down in the books as being some of the most frightening, memorable and legendary creations to ever grace the silver screen. But in the opinion of Hellraiser: Judgment star Paul T. Taylor, one individual stands above them all. His name? Pinhead.
Perhaps biased seeing as he plays the character in the aforementioned film, Taylor recently sat down with Cinema Blend to explain why ol’ Pinhead is horror’s greatest icon. In short, the actor believes Clive Barker’s creation is right at the top simply because he’s so much more than just a slasher. His purpose isn’t just to...

The unofficial Hellraiser: Judgment post-mortem continues today, with writer-director Gary J. Tunnicliffe running the rule over the film’s finale.
Chatting to ComicBook.com, Tunnicliffe spoke at length about the poetic fate that befell Pinhead, after Paul T. Taylor’s sinister leader was forced to live out the remainder of his life in our realm as a cripplingly average human being. Talk about flipping the tables!
As for the ending, in particular, the filmmaker looked to his own short, No More Souls, for inspiration when stripping Pinhead of his supernatural, god-like status.
I got to a point where I was writing the end of the film, and I thought, ‘I’m not gonna have somebody hold the box up, close it, and say, ‘Go to Hell.’ I couldn’t do it. I just couldn’t do it again. And it’s like, ‘Oh, so what do you do?...

For those Hellraiser fans who’ve yet to abandon Pinhead’s sin-o-rama condemnation – how could you miss Hellraiser: Deader (real title) – 2018 brings yet another straight-to-video (ceno)bite of sadomasochism. Enter Hellraiser: Judgment, Gary J. Tunnicliffe’s religious allegory about divinity, evil and *putrid* torture exploitation. The chains that bind are greased and tightened once more, but a task force retread ends up overshadowing most of Pinhead’s minimal exposure. It’s serial killer procedural flavors slapped between familiar franchise beats, none of which make for a double-decker delight.
Frankly, I liked Hellraiser: Judgment better when it was The Devil’s Carnival.

Ol’ Pinhead will find himself a bit bored in the imminent Hellraiser: Judgment.
Or so says Paul T. Taylor. The actor, who’s about to become the third person to play the iconic character, spoke to ComicBook.com ahead of Judgment‘s release next week (February 13th) and was sure to draw attention to his character’s long, bloody career of torturing souls.
I think it kind of came from the script. It came from Gary’s direction. In this script, it seems that Pinhead is in more of a sort of bored place, but the arrogance is all there. He has all the power. As he says unknowingly, he doesn’t know what’s going to happen, he says, ‘I have nothing to fear.’ He’s just at a place in his life where he’s jaded. I think he’s possibly older than he’s been before in other films,...

That’s the chilling tagline attached to Hellraiser: Judgment, Gary J. Tunnicliffe’s long-awaited horror revival that thrusts Paul T. Taylor into the role of Pinhead, a cold, calculating demon who hails from another dimension.
As the historic 10th entry in the cult horror series, there’s an air of cinematic legacy lingering over Tunnicliffe’s Judgment, and today, Bloody Disgusting has served up a suitably creepy clip of Pinhead plotting his next move, which ends with a shrill, Inception-esque blast of music.
To offer some context to the footage, Tunnicliffe was on hand to describe the above clip:
The clip goes a little way to explain some of the new mythology and mechanisms, and you finally get to see and hear our new Pinhead in action. We would love to be able to show more images and clips, but finding something that isn’t too blood-drenched,...

Pinhead’s attitude in the imminent Hellraiser: Judgment is one of cold indifference.
Or so says Paul T. Taylor. The actor, who is about to become the third person to play the malevolent Cenobite, spoke to ComicBook.com ahead of Judgment‘s release next week (February 13th), and drew attention to his character’s long, bloody career torturing souls.
Though some may view Pinhead and the Cenobites as angels, their barbaric torture methods are enough to make Jigsaw seem tame by comparison. But even Clive Barker’s Hellraiser is beginning to grow tired in his old age.

The steady, blood-red stream of Hellraiser: Judgment content continues today with Bloody Disgusting unveiling some creepy new stills from the forthcoming horror flick.
On paper, it’s the straight-to-video revival from Gary J. Tunnicliffe, who has been developing Judgment since as far back as 2015. Inspired by the works of Clive Barker, Tunnicliffe’s über-violent gorefest aims to resurrect the Cenobite Pinhead (Paul T. Taylor) in style, and maybe – just maybe – spawn a sequel of its own.
Before we get swept up by forward-thinking and speculation, though, Bloody Disgusting’s gallery is a puzzle box of sadomasochistic experiments, which, if nothing else, acts as living proof that Hellraiser: Judgment is four weeks away from making Event Horizon seem like a bright and breezy Disney movie.

I have to say, it hurts my heart a tiny little bit to see Pinhead brought down to this level.
Admittedly, there hasn't been a good Hellraiser movie since the early 90s (arguably since the original but I give at least the first 2 sequels a shrugging pass) but that's not for lack of trying.
Hellraiser: Judgment, the tenth (!) movie in the franchise, now has Pinhead, played by Paul T. "Evil seeks evil." Lionsgate has launched an official trailer for the latest Hellraiser film titled Hellraiser: Judgment, which is actually the 10th film in the Hellraiser series (believe it or not?). I didn't even realize there with this many. The original horror cult classic Hellraiser was released in 1987, from writer/director Clive Barker. Hellraiser: Judgment is directed by Gary J. Tunnicliffe, who has been working for two decades as a horror make-up effects artist before jumping into the director's seat this time. It tells the story of three detectives as they struggle to solve a horrifying murder, but instead find themselves thrust into the depths of Pinhead’s hellacious landscape. Starring Paul T. Taylor as Pinhead, along with Damon Carney, Randy Wayne, Alexandra Harris, John Gulager, Mike Jay Regan, plus Heather Langenkamp. See below. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Gary J. We hope you’re sitting comfortably, for the folks over at Bloody Disgusting have summoned the spine-chilling first trailer for Hellraiser: Judgment, Gary J. Tunnicliffe’s long-in-development passion project that heralds Paul T. Taylor’s first spin as the illustrious Pinhead.
Well, we say illustrious when really we mean nasty, demented and abominable – you know, all of the horror-tinged superlatives one would associate with Clive Barker’s otherworldly creation. And make no mistake, after a seven-year hiatus, Pinhead is prepped and ready to make up for lost time, as is evidenced by this morning’s hellish first trailer.
It’s arrived just in time, too, given Lionsgate has slated Hellraiser: Judgment for a home video release on February 13th. It’ll likely come packing a hefty amount of bonus material as well – an extended cut and gag reel are mentioned in Bloody Disgusting’s scoop – but for now, let’s...

When any actor has embodied an iconic character for an extended period of time, it’s only understandable that fans sometimes have difficulty adjusting to their successors. Even in the case of a vastly talented performer like Jackie Earle Haley, there were many who just couldn’t accept someone playing Freddy Krueger other than Robert Englund. Likewise, we ask for no tears, please, regarding the third actor to play Pinhead – it’s a waste of good suffering.
As you may or may not know, Paul T. Taylor has been hired to portray the most recognizable of all Cenobites in the upcoming Hellraiser: Judgment, which happens to be the tenth installment in the franchise that originated in the mind of the one and only Clive Barker. This time, though, it’s a returning Gary J. Tunnicliffe, director of 2011’s Revelations, who’ll be taking us from the pinnacle to the pit.

Later this year, Hellraiser: Judgment will have the honor of becoming the 10th instalment in Dimension’s cult horror series, but allegations of animal cruelty have threatened to cast a shadow over the Gary J. Tunnicliffe-directed flick.
Ahead of its long-anticipated release, Tunnicliffe recently appeared on the latest episode of The Movie Crypt podcast to drum up Judgment‘s arrival, not to mention all of the brutal terrors that lie in wait – hell, one actress almost passed out because a scene was so intense.
That sequence in question reportedly involves a small dog, and while Tunnicliffe explicitly stated that the animal “doesn’t get hurt” whatsoever, a vocal minority misconstrued the director’s comments, before claiming that Hellraiser: Judgment contains scenes of animal torture. That couldn’t be further from the truth, though, according to Gary J. Tunnicliffe, who tackled those allegations in a new interview with Dread Central.

Bloody Disgusting is uncovering details about the only recently revealed Hellraiser film coming out this year. First, the most disappointing news: Doug Bradley is done doing Pinhead. Paul T. Taylor (Super, Sin City) will replace him in the titled Hellraiser: Judgement. For those hoping the series would go deeper into the mythos of the Cenobites, we are learning there will be new characters in that direction and a deeper interaction with their characters! Here's a synopsis for the plot...
“Detectives Sean and David Carter are on the case to find a gruesome serial killer terrorizing the city. Joining forces with Detective Christine Egerton, they dig deeper into a spiraling maze of horror that may not be of this world. Could the Judgment awaiting the killer’s victims also be waiting for Sean?“
For fans of Hellraiser, it sounds like this installment will mark a turning point in the series.

The new film is not a reboot, rather a new sequel which also boasts a cast that includes Heather Langenkamp, Damon Carney, Randy Wayne, Alexandra Harris, John Gulager, Diane Ayala Goldner, Mike J. Regan, Andi Powers, Jeff Fenter, Helena Grace Donald and Grace Montie. Filming gets underway shortly.

It's got Kristin Scott Thomas, a hotshot director and flawless writing – so why are some critics pausing over this revival of Harold Pinter's classic?
Super groups and dream teams do not always work, of course. Ian Rickson is a superb director, Kristin Scott Thomas is a brilliant actor, Harold Pinter is now just about an official genius. Yet this offers no guarantee that the first directing the second in the third will be any more successful than the Traveling Wilburys, say, or the Real Madrid "galacticos" team of 2004. The play in question is Betrayal, first performed in 1978, which charts the progress of an extramarital affair by travelling backwards through its most important scenes. Opinions on this production vary, but what drift there is puts one in mind of Real's last galactico, David Beckham: good, yes, but short of pace.
Strangely, though, no one can quite work out why.
