Just when you thought the identity of Jack the Ripper - the Victorian Age's most infamous serial killer - would never be solved, along comes an amateur sleuth who claims the culprit was a demented Polish barber named Aaron Kosminski. "I've got the only piece of forensic evidence in the whole history of the case," Russell Edwards, a London-based property developer, told The Independent. "I've spent 14 years working on it, and we have definitively solved the mystery of who Jack the Ripper was. Only nonbelievers that want to perpetuate the myth will doubt. This is it now - we have unmasked him.

At their best, movies can be inspiring – they awaken things in us and make us want to be better people or do bigger things with our lives. That being said, I can’t recall the last time a Hollywood film inspired someone to go out and solve one of the biggest murder mysteries of all time. This is what happened after Russell Edwards sat down to watch the Hughes brothers' 2001 film From Hell. The feature, which was based on Alan Moore’s wildly popular graphic novel, features Johnny Depp as a detective with an opium problem who teams up with Heather Graham to solve the mystery behind the Whitechapel murders in London way back in 1888. Those unsolved crimes have captivated amateur sleuths for 126 years and given rise to the legend of Jack the Ripper &ndash...

One of the greatest mysteries of all time has (allegedly.) been solved. The world has another new solution to the infamous Jack the Ripper murders, and we can thank Albert and Allen Hughes. 2001 film From Hell for inspiring one armchair detective to finally crack the 126 year old case. A new article at THR reveals that Russell Edwards, author of the upcoming book Naming Jack the Ripper, first got interested in the brutal murders of five (and possibly more) prostitutes in London.s Whitechapel district back in 1888 after watching the 2001 film based on an Alan Moore graphic novel. "When my involvement in the 126-year-old case began, I was just another armchair detective, interested enough to conduct my own extensive research after watching the Johnny Depp film From Hell. It piqued my curiosity about the 1888 killings when five . possibly more . prostitutes were butchered in London's East End." In the film, Johnny Depp...

The author of a new book that purports to have finally pinpointed the true identity of one of history's most famed unknown murderers was in part inspired by the Johnny Depp-starring thriller From Hell. Naming Jack the Ripper, published this week, claims that 23-year-old Polish immigrant and hairdresser Aaron Kosminski was the man behind a string of bloody murders that terrorized London in 1888, sparking more than a century of references in popular culture. The book's author, Russell Edwards, used DNA evidence found at one of the crime scenes to make the claims but says it was the

Two men claim to have identified Jack the Ripper using DNA found on a shawl owned by one of the killer’s victims, saying the murderer was Aaron Kosminski, a Polish immigrant.
DNA 'Proves' Aaron Kosminski was Jack the Ripper
In the new book Naming Jack the Ripper, author Russell Edwards claims to have finally solved the mystery of Jack the Ripper, the infamous serial killer who originated in 19th century London. Edwards, self-identified as an “armchair detective,” bought a bloody shawl that supposedly belonged to Jack the Ripper victim Catherine Eddowes at an auction in 2007 and got in touch with molecular biologist Jari Louhelainen to see if modern science could finally reveal the identity of Jack the Ripper.
“I’ve got the only piece of forensic evidence in the whole history of the case. I’ve spent 14 years working on it, and we have definitively solved the mystery of who Jack the Ripper was,...

The trailer for the latest "hotsploitation" slasher flick Sorority Row showed a lot of promise. Now the reality of the actual movie is setting in.
"...an average slasher pic that meanders indecisively between gore and gags."
— Russell Edwards, Variety
"There's little to distinguish this from the rest of the entries coming down the horror film assembly line, though the presence of Carrie Fisher as a shotgun-toting housemother who taunts the killer by shouting 'Come to mama!' offers some camp value."
— Frank Scheck, Hollywood Reporter
"The blatant attempts at humor mostly fall flat, but a third-act catfight manages briefly to detour the film into fairly enjoyable camp. It's a welcome laugh in a movie that otherwise takes all the fun out of copious gore and naked co-eds."
— Steven Hyden, Onion Av Club
"The tedious flick offers little more than a few scares, and plenty of boobs. And we're not just talking about the cast.
