“RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 16 concluded on April 19 with the sixteenth episode in RuPaul’s quest to find “America’s next drag superstar.” Vying for the crown in the “Grand Finale” were three finalists: New York’s Nymphia Wind, Boston’s Plane Jane, and Philadelphia’s Sapphira Cristál.
Previously in episode 15, the eliminated queens returned to compete in a first ever “LipSync Lalaparuza Smackdown – Reunited” episode. In a nine-lip sync tournament, Morphine Love Dion came out on top as the ultimate lip sync assassin of the season and was named “Queen of She Already Done Had Hereses” with a $50,000 cash prize.
In this week’s final episode, Nymphia, Jane and Sapphira all perform an original number and then a third place finisher is determined. Additionally, the previously eliminated queens walk the runway once more and Miss Congeniality is named. Then, the last two standing compete in one final, title-earning Lip Sync...

Nick Taylor and Cláudio Alves are watching and recapping RuPaul’s Drag Race season sixteen. This week, it’s time for episode fifteen…
This week, Megami pulls a Silky and a star is born.
CLÁUDIO: After weeks of complaining about the season’s declining quality, the Drag Race producers shut me right up. This spin on a reunion episode is the best of the year, a super-charged queer Super Bowl of lipsyncing that serves as a respite before next week’s finale. Most of the girls brought their A-game, fighting for their Ru-demption with everything they got, and even the losers seemed to have a good time. Well, most of them. More important, still, was how the hour felt formed around the arc of one particular queen, subverting folks’ expectations both among the audience and the contenders themselves. To paraphrase Mother Jinkx, anyone saying Megami isn’t a star after this...

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 16 continued on April 12 with the fifteenth episode in RuPaul’s quest to find “America’s next drag superstar.” Previously in episode 14, the top four told stories of their own lives memoir style in podcast interviews. Plane Jane and Q found themselves vulnerable as the bottom two and Q was shocked to be sent home instead of marching on to the “Grand Finale” alongside her sisters.
This week, instead of the standard reunion episode, RuPaul Charles invites the eliminated queens back for a “LipSync Lalaparuza Smackdown” where one comes out on top of the tournament $50,000 richer. Seated at the judges’ dais this week to help decide the match-up winners were longtime bestie Michelle Visage and recurring judge Ts Madison.

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 16 continued on February 23 with the eighth episode in RuPaul’s quest to find “America’s next drag superstar.” Previously in episode seven, Plasma enjoyed her shining moment as the star and challenge winner in “The Sound of Rusic” while Mhi’ya Iman Le’Paige and Megami didn’t strike a chord with the judges in their supporting roles. Despite a flipless Lip Sync for Your Life, Mhi’ya came out on top once again and sent Megami back to New York.

Following her episode 7 elimination, Megami shares her love of geek culture and Nuyorican upbringing and how they’ve influenced her drag. Watch the full episode above via the official RuPaul’s Drag Race channel on YouTube.
In her interview with Michelle, Megami explains that she got into drag almost eight years ago through going to ComicCon and a fascination with doing cosplay of female characters. Her love for costuming “snowballed from there” when she started doing “geek-related drag gigs” and decided to continue to push that envelope into the career space. Megami is particularly interested in breaking into the predominantly “straight white guy” space of geek culture and showing that it can also be a safe space for people of color.

Following Friday’s seventh episode, musician and one-time judge of the show Orville Peck makes his “Pit Stop” debut. The two share commentary on large makeup like Dawn‘s considering former contestants like Trixie, Mimi Imfurst and Bianca Del Rio had to explain their “club kid makeup” back then, but now queens like Dawn and the Methyd family just get to exist.

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 16 continued on February 16 with episode 7 on MTV. Airing concurrently with the main show is its tea-spilling, backstage-focused sister series “Untucked,” now in its 15th season. Relieved to be safe in one of the notoriously difficult challenges, the four queens realized that the top three were likely Sapphira Cristál, Q and Plasma and if Morphine Love Dion deserves a safe spot that would leave Megami and Mhi’ya Iman Le’Paige in the bottom. “RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 16 continued on February 16 with the seventh episode in RuPaul’s quest to find “America’s next drag superstar.” Previously in episode six, Geneva Karr‘s branded doll edition was among the judges’ least favorite and she found herself in the bottom for the third time. This time she faced off against Mhi’ya Iman Le’Paige who came fully loaded with an arsenal of lip synching tricks and sent Geneva packing. Meanwhile, Q broke the curse of safety and finally earned her first maxi challenge win.

In their recap of the episode, both Trixie and Maddy gave Q grace for her emotional reaction to being safe yet again because they see her as someone so very close to a win that they can understand the sting of not getting it. When it comes to Plane Jane‘s villain edit, Trixie can appreciate that Jane shouldn’t “punch down” in her comments on Amanda Tori Meating‘s drag, but at the end of the day it’s making good cat fights that we haven’t seen on the show in a while.

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 16 continued on January 26 with episode 4 on MTV. Airing concurrently with the main show is its tea-spilling, backstage-focused sister series “Untucked,” now in its 15th season. For this week’s challenge, the 13 remaining queens appeared in the sketch comedy spoof “Rdr Live!” where they had to perform live for the judges in one take. “Untucked” takes place after the first group of queens are declared safe and the rest receive critiques from the judges.
As safe queens, both Morphine Love Dion and Dawn were relieved to survive a difficult comedy challenge, but were so happy with their performances that they thought they might have appeared among the top queens. Overall, the group knew that Q was among the top because she “turned it” as the brick during Weekend Update. Megami felt the same about Plane Jane‘s performance in their skit. Figuring that Plasma was also in the top,...

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 16 continued on January 26 with the fourth episode in RuPaul’s quest to find “America’s next drag superstar.” Following two non-elimination premiere episodes Part 1 and Part 2, the girls walked in the “The Mother of All Balls” in episode 3 where Hershii LiqCour-Jeté served the three looks that wowed her peers and the judges the least. Hershii lost the Lip Sync for Your Life to a surprised-to-be-ranked-at-the-bottom Geneva Karr. The winner of the week was Nymphia Wind who created a look from scratch that was declared as one of the best in series herstory.
This week, Geneva, Nymphia and the remaining 11 queens get in their comedy gigs for a live, one-take acting challenge. Seated at the judges’ dais for episode 4 titled “Rdr Live!” was Emmy winning host RuPaul Charles, longtime bestie Michelle Visage, recurring judge Ross Matthews, and the original “Slayer” Sarah Michelle Gellar as the extra special guest.

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 16 continued on January 19 with episode 3 on MTV. Airing concurrently with the main show is its tea-spilling, backstage-focused sister series “Untucked,” now in its 15th season. As in the premiere episodes, following their three-loo presentations in the ball challenge, the 14 queens became judges of their sisters through the “Rate-a-Queen” twist that required them to rank their competition from tops to bottoms each week. Based on those rankings, Q, Nymphia Wind, and Sapphira Cristál placed in the top and Geneva Karr, Hershii LiqCour-Jeté, and Mhi’ya Iman Le’Paige placed in the bottom.
In episode 3 of “Untucked,” the group of 14 all new queens reflected on the design challenge and runway presentations in “The Mother of All Balls.” Among the safe queens, Amanda Tori Meating was excited to be safe because she was so worried about getting her final look together, but Megami was disappointed in her placement because...

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 16 continued on January 19 with the third episode in RuPaul’s quest to find “America’s next drag superstar.” In the premiere episodes Part 1 and Part 2, the 14 all new queens were split into two groups of seven to show off their talents and introduce themselves to the judges. Following the “Rate-a-Queen” twist where the queens ranked each other for the week and two lip syncs for the win, Sapphira Cristál and Plane Jane were declared the first two winners of the season and each earned immunity from a future elimination.
This week, all 14 queens met their entire cast together for the first time and then were challenged with a design challenge ahead of their walk in the seasonal fashion ball. Seated at the judges’ dais for episode 3 titled “The Mother of All Balls” was Emmy winning host RuPaul Charles, longtime bestie Michelle Visage, recurring judge Carson Kressley,...

Each week on “The Pit Stop,” Trixie Mattel recaps the latest episode of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 16 alongside a guest host. Following Friday’s second episode, YouTube personality and Trixie’s friend of 17 years Brittany Broski sat down to celebrate their love of drag by critiquing the seven queens that introduced themselves to the world this week. Watch the full episode above via the official RuPaul’s Drag Race channel on YouTube.
In their recap of the episode, Trixie and Brittany liked Geneva Karr‘s entrance look, but were confused over whether her name is intended to be a pun or not and appreciated her pride in being a leg hair artist on the internet. When it came to the divisive Plane Jane, they both lived for her first impression look and think that only someone that looks that good could come in guns blazing. The queen they did not live for is Megami.

In addition to having charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent to spare, the queens of RuPaul’s Drag Race are also often known for their honesty. And one Season 16 contestant just took the truth to a whole new level.
On the heels of last week’s premiere, Friday’s follow-up episode introduced America to seven more hopefuls, including an early frontrunner for the villain of Season 16 — Boston’s own Plane Jane, who flat-out admitted to the other queens that she was “nervous” about competing “until I walked into the Werk Room and saw everybody else.” If you’re waiting for a “just kidding,...
