The CW’s The Winchesters has conjured yet another familiar face to appear during its nearly completed freshman run.
Ruth Connell, who from Season 10 through Season 15 of Supernatural racked up more than 30 appearances as the bewitching Rowena MacLeod, is set to reprise that role on the prequel spinoff. In doing so, she checks off one of TVLine’s 12 wished-for appearances by a Supernatural vet.

When the past returns, it’s always hard to tell if it’s going to be good or bad, but in the case of The Winchesters, it’s both.
Following Samuel's surprise return in the previous episode, on The Winchesters Season 1 Episode 8, Mary, John, and Millie watch over him, but different feelings arise while doing so.
Meanwhile, as Carlos and Lata investigate the death of a musician, someone from Carlos' past makes an appearance and causes trouble, but some familiar faces come back in unique ways.
With Samuel finally back, deep-rooted feelings are brought up, and it doesn’t help that he’s still in recovery.
Even though Gil McKinney reprised his role as Henry from Supernatural on The Winchesters Season 1 Episode 7, that was not the case for Samuel. After seeing Tom Welling play him for an episode, I don’t really mind.
John: You did it, Mary. You found him.

John’s relationship with his mom may put him in jeopardy, but it’s nothing the team can’t handle.
On The Winchesters Season 1 Episode 2, the young hunters follow a lead about Samuel to Topeka, where they try to solve the case of a monster taking people at a commune.
Meanwhile, John feels he may not be cut out for this life as Mary gets more frustrated with not finding her father.
Just getting right to it, this episode feels like a true Supernatural episode.
Supernatural was known for having episodes that are “Monster of the Week,” and the new episode of The Winchesters was exactly that while also still keeping true to the series itself.
While some may not like those episodes, I, for one, love them.

After hearing his voice in the Winchesters series premiere, fans will once again see Gil McKinney onscreen as Henry Winchester. McKinney will appear in Episode 7, according to TVLine. The Henry we’ll see is described as “the intellectual patriarch of the Winchester clan. Having come from a long line of Men of Letters, Henry fully dedicated his life to the institution. However, when a Men of Letters’ mission leads to Henry’s untimely death, his absence and the secrecy surrounding his life inside the organization creates an unrepairable rift in his family.” That Men of Letters mission was covered in Supernatural, with Season 8’s “As Time Goes By” seeing him accidentally time traveling to Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean’s (Jensen Ackles) then-present and finding out that he never saw his son John (Drake Rodger on The Winchesters) again. He died fighting alongside his grandsons, which was why his family...

The Winchesters has recruited a familiar face from Supernatural: Gil McKinney will reprise his role as Henry Winchester in an upcoming episode of the CW prequel spinoff, TVLine has learned exclusively.
McKinney first appeared as Dean and Sam’s paternal grandfather in a Season 8 installment of Supernatural, when he met his future grandsons via the wonders of time travel. That mission to stop the demon Abaddon ultimately resulted in Henry’s death, leading John to assume that his father had abandoned him. A Season 9 episode featured flashbacks to Henry’s time in the Men of Letters in 1958.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Winchesters series premiere.] Dean says it best in the Winchesters series premiere: “Now, I know this story might sound familiar, but I’m going to put the pieces together in a way that just might surprise you, and in order to do that, I have to start all the way at the beginning.” The Supernatural prequel tells the story of how Mary Campbell (Meg Donnelly) and John Winchester (Drake Rodger) met and fell in love. But first, John has to be introduced to the world of demons and monsters, which is exactly what happens after he comes home from the war in 1972. He crosses paths with Mary, first outside the movie theater, then as he’s looking for answers about his dad (Gil McKinney’s Henry — Supernatural fans know what happened to him) and a demon finds him. Mary easily dispatches of the demon (...

For Supernatural’s March 25 episode, things are going to have the touch of an angel. Misha Collins, who plays fan-favorite Castiel, is stepping behind the camera for his directorial debut. ABC released the first official promo for the Nov. 3 episode, which features the underwater frenemies’ big debut!
Of all the classic fairytales Once Upon A Time has woven into its increasingly complicated universe, The Little Mermaid has definitely been the most highly anticipated — and at long last, the wait is almost over! JoAnna Garcia flips her fins for the first time on the show’s Nov. 3 episode as mer-princess Ariel, and as we saw in this first promo, the story’s infamous sea witch will also be making a surprising appearance.
I say “surprising” because, in typical Once fashion, the eight-limbed enemy will be presented a little differently than you might remember. In this version, Ursula will be played by Lana Parrilla, similarly to the way Once‘s Beast doubled as Rumpelstiltskin (Robert Carlyle).
The promo also reveals Ariel’s first on-land meeting with Prince Eric (Gil McKinney), which we...

Let’s start with the mermaids, shall we? The Neverland seas are apparently crawling with ‘em, and while they may be pretty on the outside, their insides are uglier than Rumpelstiltskin’s complexion. A combination of cannons and fireballs proved enough to chase the mermaids away, though the gang decided to keep one and try to make her talk.

When it was announced JoAnna Garcia Swisher would be taking on the highly anticipated role of Ariel on Once Upon a Time, it had completely skipped my mind that there were other characters in The Little Mermaid who were not from the sea and were human. It wasn’t until news came out that Gil McKinney would be playing Prince Eric in the upcoming third season that it all came back to me. Suddenly I was remembering the role Eric played in Ariel’s tale and then I was seeing McKinney in the part and it worked. I could easily see him as Ariel’s prince.
According to TVLine, McKinney will appear in Season 3 for multiple episodes as Prince Eric and will first appear in Episode 6, the same episode Ariel makes her debut. The episode, appropriately titled “Ariel,” is still kind of a mystery. We don’t know how Ariel...

Gil will romance JoAnna Garcia’s Ariel for several episodes this fall.
The search for the most perfect prince in all the land has finally come to an end; Gil McKinney has been cast as Prince Eric on the upcoming third season of Once Upon A Time, HollywoodLife.com‘s sister site TVLine is reporting.
Largely regarded as the handsomest prince in the Walt Disney universe, Eric will make his Once debut on the sixth episode of the show’s third season, appropriately titled “Ariel.”
Ariel, meanwhile, will be played by JoAnna Garcia, who recently tweeted her excitement over getting to slip on the little mermaid’s iconic fins:
Excited 2 finally be able to share that I will be swimming into @OnceABC as ‘Ariel’! So honored 2 be able to play such a beloved character! … Totally overwhelmed by this love! I have been an enormous fan of @OnceABC 4 so long! Grateful...

We’ve got questions, and you’ve (maybe) got answers! With another week of TV gone by, we’re lobbing queries left and right about shows including Girls, The Good Wife, New Girl and Supernatural!
1 | Could there a correlation between Andy Samberg’s rather random Saturday Night Live return/face time and the fact that he now has a sitcom pilot in contention?
2 | What did Girls‘ Allison Williams do to piss off Lena Dunham? Three episodes into Season 2 and her Marnie character has already endured a painfully awkward sex scene with a gay man and, this week, a threesome involving a doll!

More Benny. More Kevin. More Castiel. More Tablets. More Felicia Day. And a new chapter in the Winchester Brothers’ journey that will lead them to seek out how exactly they fit into being “Men Of Letters.”
Those are just some of the scoops and spoilers that came out of a Q&A earlier this week with Supernatural Executive Producer Robert Singer, who answered questions following a press screening of last night’s “As Time Goes By.”
Here are the highlights:
Winchester mythology How much of a challenge was it to add more to the Sam/Dan history by having Grandpa Henry (Gil McKinney) enter the picture? “We make this stuff up as we go along,” laughed Singer. “But we try to use what we’ve done before and be able to spin out from there and tell interesting stories and get into backstory like this.”
We haven’t seen the last of.

The mythology of "Supernatural" got a sudden growth spurt in "As Time Goes By." Now that the Winchester boys know that their grandfather was once a member of the Men of Letters, where will the show take us next? Executive producer Bob Singer gave us the scoop.
Warning: There are some big spoilers ahead for both this episode and the following one. Read at your own peril.
We will be seeing the secret location housing the knowledge of the Men of Letters.
Bob Singer: The reveal of that place, which I believe is in the next episode, it's a really stunning set. It's full of mysteries. It'll become kind of a home base for the boys. We're really excited about it. After 8 years of never having a home base, this'll be home base for quite some time. And I think you guys will really dig the set.

This was a fantastic Supernatural outingm with major kudos to writer Adam Glass (who also wrote the Garth episodes "Party On, Garth" and "Southern Comfort") and director Serge Ladouceur (who has been the show's resident cinematographer).
It's nice to see a standout episode, especially one that showcases what the series is all about: the Winchester family, its dangerous monster hunting job and the monsters themselves, all while capturing a feeling of past, present and definitely a look to the future.
Granted, "As Time Goes By" was something of a time travel episode, but more so a filling in the blanks of the Winchester blood line.
While we've been privy to Mary Winchester's family (most notably in Supernatural Season 6), John Winchester's side has been a little more mysterious.
Yet, John had always thought his father had abandoned him, essentially turning him into the hardened and monster focused hunter that raised Sam and Dean.

Spoiler Alert.
"Supernatural" is exploring time travel again -- and this time, it's personal (...again).
Ever since HuffPost TV broke the news that Gil McKinney would be guest starring as Sam and Dean's paternal grandfather, Henry Winchester, there's been speculation as to what role he might play in the show's mythology.
As fans may recall from Season 5's "My Bloody Valentine," there's a reason why John Winchester (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Mary Campbell (Samantha Smith) were destined to be together, which ties into the families' bloodlines. In Seasons 4 and 6, we got a look at the Campbell clan's involvement in the hunting world, but until now, we've seen very little about John's history.
That's about to change in "As Time Goes By," since -- as you can see in this week's Producer's Preview video -- Henry isn't entirely ignorant about the supernatural world.

Tonight’s episode of Supernatural brings back a device that has produced some of The CW show’s fan-favorite episodes: time travel. Playing with the fourth dimension has teamed up the Winchester boys with younger versions of their parents, with the legendary creator of the all-important Colt and with real-world Prohibition lawman Eliot Ness. This time, a bit of temporal displacement leads to Sam and Dean meeting the paternal grandfather they never knew, Henry Winchester, when he travels from 1958 to 2013.
The episode, titled “As Time Goes By,” reveals a back story fans never knew about John Winchester’s side of the family.

Once again, "Supernatural" is all about family in the upcoming episode, "As Time Goes By." Some demonic problems and a little time travel mean Sam and Dean will meet yet another grandfather -- Henry Winchester. What secrets are hidden on the paternal side of the family? Here are five spoilers to know about the episode.
1. The episode begins, amusingly, in a town called Normal, Illinois. It turns out that John Winchester (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) lived there as a boy in the 1950s.
2. The Hunters are not the only ones who know about the demons and monsters that roam the world. There is another group as well. While saying much about this group would be spoiling far too much, let's just say that these men are better-suited to Sam's (Jared Padalecki) interests than to Dean's (Jensen Ackles).
3. We're going to meet a new kind of demon in "As Time Goes By.

Supernatural explores its roots this Wednesday (The CW, 9/8c) when Gil McKinney guest stars as Dean and Sam’s paternal grandpa, Henry.
Rather than seeking an actor who was similar to stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, the producers sought “a contrast” for the role, says Ep Bob Singer. “[Henry] is a guy who was more elegant and more learned and more educated.”
TVLine was lucky enough to screen “As Time Goes By” and get some scoop from Singer during a recent press Q&A. Here’s what you need to know about the can’t-miss outing:

Supernatural is taking us for a bit of spin through time in its Jan. 30 episode, “In the Beginning.” The episode will delve a little further into Sam and Dean’s family history, but this time on their dad’s side. We’ve come to know plenty about the Campbells and how coldhearted they can be, but the Winchesters have remained mostly a mystery. We’ve met John, the boys’ father – both young and old versions – and have a good sense of his story from the time he met his wife, Mary, to how he came to be a hunter. But what about John’s father? Well, he is precisely who we’re going to be meeting and you can see him in the promo images for “In the Beginning.”

Supernatural is preparing an episode that will not only feature time travel, it will delve into Sam and Dean Winchester’s family tree. Episode 12, “As Time Goes By,” will bring in Friday Night Light’s Gil McKinney in a very important guest starring role. The character he plays, Henry, will mysteriously find himself in the present day after a bit of time travel. That covers that portion of the episode, but what about exploring family? We’ve already met the Campbells and they turned out to be the biggest dick hunters ever, but this Henry fellow has no relation to the Campbells. In fact, Henry is Henry Winchester, John Winchester’s father and Sam and Dean’s grandfather.
According to the Huffington Post, Sam and Dean never met Henry as he was never involved in their lives. It should be interesting to see how he reacts to finding himself zapped forward in time.

In past seasons of "Supernatural," we learned a lot about the Campbells, Sam and Dean's mother's family, and now it's time to find out about the Winchester side. In the upcoming Episode 12, entitled "As Time Goes By," Gil McKinney guest stars in a pivotal role that involves time travel.
HuffPo was on-set during the filming of the episode and learned that McKinney ("Friday Night Lights," "ER") portrays a man called Henry who is transported to the present day, but this isn't a simple "monster of the week" case for the brothers as the time traveler is actually Sam and Dean's paternal grandfather.
"This is a [man] we knew nothing about because he was never involved in our lives or the lives of people that were involved directly with us," Jensen Ackles (Dean) said. "It’s kind of getting some insight into the life and the legacy of the Winchesters, which is...

The Supernatural family is expanding.
Friday Night Lights alum Gil McKinney has landed a pivotal guest role on Season 8 of the CW series, HuffPost TV reports.

McKinney will appear in Episode 12 as Henry, the paternal grandfather of the Winchester brothers.
