It was recently announced that Neil Marshall was in talks to direct Hellfest for The Walking Dead producer Gale Anne Hurd. Now, we have word that a new writer has been brought on board to improve the existing script.
Gary Dauberman, who polished up both the Final Destination 5 and Nightmare on Elm Street remake scripts, has been hired to work on Hellfest. The original script was co-written by William Penick and Chris Sey.
Neil Marshall is familiar with Gary’s work, as Dauberman wrote the spec script Burst for Ghost House Pictures. Neil Marshall was previously attached to direct the film, which involved “a group of travelers stranded in a blizzard who find themselves being stalked and terrorized by an unseen, malicious force that causes them to spontaneously combust.”
According to The Wrap, CBS wants to begin shooting Hellfest this summer and sees the film as the first in a potential franchise.

A few months out from shooting, it’s being reported by TheWrap that Neil Marshall‘s Hellfest will be getting a rewrite. Reasons for the move haven’t been provided (though we can all presume it’s because the script isn’t very good), but, whatever the purpose, CBS Films have hired Gary Dauberman to reshape William Penick and Chris Sey‘s script.
Previous reports described the film as following “a costumed killer who systematically slaughters the unsuspecting visitors who come to a theme park on Halloween night,” a premise that CBS Films and producer Gale Ann Hurd would like to fashion into a franchise. Knowing this, the effort to get everything in order makes perfect sense. (Not that it doesn’t always.)

Neil Marshall is one director I would travel to Hell with, so it’s great news that he looks like he may direct a new horror movie called Hellfest for CBS Films. Deadline reports that the Dog Soldier director is in early talks to direct the project about “a costumed killer who systematically slaughters the unsuspecting visitors who come to a theme park on Halloween night.” The script was penned by William Penick and Chris Sey, and is planned as a franchise.
I for one, hope this movie becomes a reality and have decided to put a quick list of reasons why Marshall would be the perfect director to take us to Hell.
5. Terror
He is great with creating a tone of sheer terror in movies like The Descent and Dog Soldiers

After having worked on The Descent and Doomsday, Neil Marshall is continuing his horror movie streak with Hellfest, from a script by by William Penick and Chris Sey. Now if you weren’t fans of Marshall’s previous movies, then this could be the horror flick you have been waiting for. The film is about is about “a costumed killer who systematically slaughters the unsuspecting visitors who come to a theme park on Halloween night.” So all those amusement parks that morph into the cold and scary parks will not only be flooded by shrieks and screams but they will also be filled with blood. After Marshall’s last two movies weren’t up to the horror bar, I think Hellfest could work and please the horror demographic. Here in California we have three major amusement parks, all having their own Halloween fest. They sell out pretty well and if...

After journeying into the darkness with The Descent, director Neil Marshall is heading back to horror for a more conventional slasher film from CBS Films. Deadline reports Marshall is now in early talks to directing Hellfest, a film following a costumed killer who systematically slaughters the unsuspecting visitors who come to a theme park on Halloween night. Sounds like a really violent Goosebumps adaptation if you ask me, and the idea is to launch yet another horror franchise with a killer that could very well join the ranks of Jason Vorhees, Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers as ruthless killers who never seem to go away. More below! The good news is that "The Walking Dead" and Aliens producer Gale Anne Hurd is behind the project with freshman writers William Penick and Chris Sey writing the script. Perhaps if the film has a fresh approach to the slasher genre, then we might...

A couple of months back, it was announced that The Walking Dead producer Gale Anne Hurd was working on a project titled Hellfest. There hasn’t been much news on the movie since then, but we’re now hearing that Neil Marshall (The Descent, Doomsday) is in early talks to direct the film.
Hellfest involves “a costumed killer who systematically slaughters the unsuspecting visitors who come to a theme park on Halloween night”. According to Deadline, this will be Marshall’s next film and production will start in summer 2012. William Penick and Chris Sey have written the script, and it is said that the plan is to turn this film into a possible franchise. We’ll have more details as soon as Neil Marshall is officially on board.

Looks like the next movie by Neil Marshall (Doomsday, The Descent) will be a horror film with a pretty classic setup. It goes by the name Hellfest, and the director is in early talks to make it his next project, with a summer 2012 shoot looking likely if all the assorted deals work out. The script, by William Penick and Chris Sey, is about "a costumed killer who systematically slaughters the unsuspecting visitors who come to a theme park on Halloween night." Or, as previous reports said, "a Halloween night of fun turns deadly at America's premier theme park when an actual costumed killer begins slaying unsuspecting patrons who believe it's all part of the show." I know Marshall has a lot of fans, but I'm in the 'unconvinced' camp. On paper, his movies are the sort of stuff I love, but The Descent and Centurion were really unsatisfying. I liked the insanity of Doomsday,...

Things have been quiet for Neil Marshall after the release of his Centurion back in 2010, but the director of The Descent and Doomsday is getting back to the genre with Hellfest, the CBS Films horror project about a costumed killer who systematically slaughters the unsuspecting visitors who come to a theme park on Halloween night. Discounting a forthcoming Game of Thrones episode, Neil Marshall‘s been out of any kind of spotlight since the release of 2010′s disappointing Centurion. The script, by William Penick and Chris Sey, revolves around “a costumed killer who systematically slaughters the unsuspecting visitors who come to a theme park on Halloween night.” Just like any good horror premise, a filmmaker could go in many directions from that point forward; they seem to have multiple things in mind, since Deadline points out that this is the hopeful start of a new franchise.

Secrets in the Walls (2010) is a horror film, written by William Penick, Chris Sey, and directed by Christopher Leitch. The film stars Jeri Ryan (Star Trek: Voyager TV Series), Kay Panabaker (Fame 2009), Peyton List (Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules), and Marianne Jean-Baptiste (Secrets and Lies) about a single mother who relocates to a beautiful old house in the suburbs that is inhabited by a bitter spirit.
Secrets in the Wall is a made for TV horror/paranormal thriller for the Lifetime Movie Network, which serves as warning enough for you to, perhaps, wait a bit closer to Halloween before getting into the spirit of watching a film that borderlines semi-paranormal activities involving a house, both spacious and charming. *here be some spoilers.
Director: Christopher Leitch.
Writers: William Penick and Chris Sey.
Secrets in the Walls is a film starring Jeri Ryan (Dead Lines), Kay Panabaker (Fame), and Peyton List (Bereavement). This is director Christopher Leitch's umpteenth television film and Secrets in the Walls was developed as a television film for the Lifetime Movie Network. If you are unaware, the Lifetime Movie Network and channel produce and distribute entertainment specifically for women and their families. Therefore, male characters are on the periphery and the messages involve issues of gender e.g. single mothers, coping with stress. This leads the film into, understandably, PG-13 territory, with Secrets in the Walls losing some of its edge in favour of a predictable plotline. However, let us put a spin on this review by looking at this myth of improper burial leading to hauntings and cleansing rituals, which are issues raised in this somewhat slowly paced thriller.

CBS Films has acquired Hellfest, a script by William Penick and Chris Sey, for "The Walking Dead" executive producer Gale Anne Hurd, who will produce the picture under her Valhalla Entertainment banner.
The story is about what happens at a Halloween theme park when one of the costumed characters is actually killing the patrons, who think it's all part of the show. Penick and Sey wrote the script from a concept by Valhalla's Ben Roberts, who'll be executive producer.
This is yet another deal for Hurd (pictured below with "The Walking Dead" star Andrew Lincoln), who recently joined forces with Aspen Comics on Dead Man's Run, a series that will be written by Greg Pak. In it Hell is an underground prison for the reanimated deal, and a man enlists a team of the damned to escape and save his innocent sister's soul.
