"Halloween Kills" might be one of the weaker installments in the long-running "Halloween" franchise, but one of its stars is anything but. The new book "Halloween: The Official Making of Halloween, Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends" includes a whole bunch of great behind-the-scenes stories about the new trilogy's production, including one about "Halloween Kills" actor Kyle Richards. Richards, a former child actress who is perhaps now best known as a castmate on "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills," played Michael Myers survivor Lindsey in the recent David Gordon Green movie (a role she originated in the 1978 classic), and apparently went above and beyond when it came to the film's stunt scenes.
In one scene, according to Abbie Bernstein's book, Richards was tasked with smacking the seemingly invincible killer known as The Shape with a sack of foam meant to be a stand-in for a bag of bricks. The foam...

In recent years there’s been something of a surge in anthology movies, not your traditional anthology mind you, no, many new anthologies are actually made up of existing thematically connected shorts brought together with, oftentimes, a new wraparound filmed to tie these tales to each other. Films like Zombieworld and Galaxy of Horrors pioneered this type of filmmaking and in the five or so years that followed we’ve had plenty of other examples. And now comes a sci-fi take on the anthology film, Battle in Space: The Armada Attacks.
Made up of six shorts, Battle in Space‘s opener tells the story of how humanity spread across the universe after the discovery of hyper speed.

"Mission control: we have a critical situation!" Uncork'd has unveiled an official trailer for an anthology film featuring a series of sci-fi shorts called Battle in Space - The Armada Attacks. This plays like a low-budget, B-movie collection of space battle stories and despite the low quality, it still looks rather fun. In 2420, after aliens and powerful space wizards enslaved human villages, a group of rebels organize a counter attack against their alien overlords by piloting fully loaded spaceships. Acclaimed actor Doug Jones stars in this as an alien, and the cast also includes Erik Palladino, Douglas Tait, Trip Hope, Jordu Schell, Linda Weinrib, Toby Rawal, Tom Farrah, Tom Madden, Declan Churchill Carter, Alexis Watt, and Philip Cristian Classen. I really wasn't expecting much from this, but I will admit there's some cool shots in this trailer that make me curious. Maybe there's some cool sci-fi stories hidden in here?...

"The vampires from the sky. They're here for blood!" Gravitas Ventures has released an official trailer for an indie action thriller sci-fi alien invasion movie called Attack of the Unknown. "How does a robot get drunk? How does a robot shave?" Who's up for some robot love? Rust in Peace is a fun short film written & directed by Will Welles. After playing at festivals over the last year, the 17-minute film is now available to watch online in full. The short is about an abandoned robot that awakes alone in a junkyard. He travels home, to his creator's ranch, to learn if the love he feels is returned. "The heart of the film is a breakup story," Welles reveals. "The kind of breakup where you have a big fight, think its over, then the next day your partner is in the kitchen making eggs like nothing is wrong." The short stars Rhys Coiro & Douglas Tait. With a clunky practical robot that walks and talks, and wonders if anyone still loves him. Thanks to Short of the Week for the tip on this film.

Since Mike Mignola created Hellboy in 1993, he has been a fan favorite character, growing his own mini-universe of characters and spinoff series. Mainstream audiences certainly got to know him in a pair of features from director Guillermo Del Toro, who put his own spin on the world. Over the last decade, Del Toro and star Ron Perlman talked about a third film but one thing or another kept getting in the way. Then, Boom! founder Andrew Cosby and Mignola got to work on a script and Del Toro walked, followed by Perlman so it morphed into a full-fledged reboot.
Did we need a reboot? No. Did we need this film at all? Probably not and the poor box office has shut the doorway to Hell for subsequent installments. Perhaps he works best in print with Mignola being the sole voice.

The movie is based upon four of writer-director Donald F. Glut’s (The Empire Strikes Back novel) short stories published in his book of the same name:

Knights of Badassdom (2013)
Written by: Kevin Dreyfuss, Matt Wall
Directed by: Joe Lynch
Cast: Ryan Kwanten (Joe), Steve Zahn (Eric), Peter Dinklage (Hung), Margarita Levieva (Beth), Summer Glau (Gwen), Joshua Malina (Travis), Michael Gladis (King Diamond), W. Earl Brown (Randy), Brian Posehn (Gilberto), Douglas Tait (Abominog)
I’m pretty much going to watch any film called “Knights of Badassdom”. I just am, and probably if you are reading this, you would too. I’m absolutely astounded at how the social stereotypes are melding together little by little, and this film is definitely a testament to that. Remember being the weird kid and only having a handful of equally weird, but loyal friends. That definitely was me, and I couldn’t see it then, but I pretty much had it made.
