The critical burst of momentum began last month, with Donald Trump and Tucker Carlson gossiping about a prominent Republican’s penis. It has climaxed, for now, with one the most egregiously zealous converts to the cult of authoritarian Trumpism finally on the inside track to securing a seat in the United States Senate.

Delaware, Ohio — The sun was setting behind Donald Trump, a blazing smear of bronze across the sky, piercing through the ethereal wisps of hair on his head and lighting them in brilliant gold. The 45th President was wrapping up a lengthy bit about Whirlpool washing machines and America’s great water pressure crisis when he remembered he needed to talk about J.D. Vance.
“We made it so that when you have a sink you can wash your hands normally, and you can take a shower, and you can do that other thing,...

The old man in the paratrooper beret is up at the front of the church with Ohio Senate Candidate Josh Mandel and he is yelling. “I fought the Communists!” he yells. The back of his jacket says Usaf Pararescue. “In Laos, in Cambodia…” Things get a bit indistinct here but it comes back around. “That’s what the cabal was doing! They were trying to take the lives of … of little babies!” Josh Mandel is clapping as the man embraces General Mike Flynn and just absolutely hollers the last line,...

The fact that CBS’s newest comedy, The Great Indoors, airs after the network’s longest-running, mega-hit The Big Bang Theory bodes well for the freshman comedy’s potential to gain some kind of an audience. It’s stocked with fine actors from a collection of other well-known shows and movies, it’s got a decent workplace comedy premise, and series creator Mike Gibbons (Tosh.0) at least knows how to wrangle together the show’s quirky cast into something resembling a neighborhood in the vicinity of charming.
Yet, it’s an effort to make it through just the 20-minute pilot. Many listable reasons throw themselves onto the rails that is the eventual train wreck of The Great Indoors, all acceptable excuses for changing the channel until Mom comes on, or maybe just turning off the TV completely and discovering these mythical “outdoors” that...

Given its perception as an older-skewing network, it’s hardly a shock that it would be CBS day at the Television Critics Association press tour which highlighted the disconnect between generations — and just how damaging that might be to the show’s odds, and television in general.
The upcoming Joel McHale sitcom “The Great Indoors” features the former “Community” star as a “Generation X” outdoorsman whose return to civilization puts him in close contact with a group of “Millennials.” Putting these generational labels in quotes is a deliberate choice because of how often the terms get thrown around — not just in the pilot, but in general discussion of the show. The show’s portrait of those born roughly between 1982 to 1995 features a lot of jokes about PC culture and social media, with the under-30 cast largely portrayed as “coddled.”
Perhaps as a result, reaction amongst critics to the TCA “The Great Indoors...

As you know, Deadline's TV Editor Nellie Andreeva is still traveling... Broadcasting & Cable is reporting that TBS' Lopez Tonight is shaking up its producing ranks. "Leaving the show are executive producers Mike Gibbons and Jim Paratore, and sources say that coming in as executive producer will be Robert Morton... Gibbons' option for a second year with the show was not picked up by the show." Morton is the longtime producer and Letterman alum who has worked on several shows, including those starring Wayne Brady, Carlos Mencia and David Alan Grier. Paratore has launched several shows including TMZ and Bonnie Hunt and then, once they are up and running, moves on to new projects. Gibbons credits include creator and executive producer of Comedy Central's Tosh.O, and executive producer of Talk Show With Spike Feresten on Fox as well as The Late Late Show With Craig Kilborn and The Showbiz Show With David Spade.
