Liev Schreiber’s illustrious fixer Ray Donovan may have spent the majority of last season at odds with the Armenian mafia – collecting more than a few physical scars to prove it – but the show’s upcoming season 4 finds our no-nonsense protagonist attempting to reconnect with his estranged daughter.
Set for premiere on June 26, Schreiber’s battle-worn hitman has been through the wringer at this point in Ann Biderman’s acclaimed series, though the first trailer proves more than anything that Ray Donovan has no intent of slowing up anytime soon – even after asking for forgiveness for his unspeakable sins.

AMC is hoping that enough Breaking Bad viewers will stick around to make Low Winter Sun a ratings hit as well. Are they right or wrong? Will the new show end up being cancelled or renewed for a second season? Stay tuned.

The cast also includes James Ransone, Sprague Grayden, Athena Karkanis, Ruben Santiago-Hudson, David Costabile, and Billy Lush.

In 2006, Britain's Channel 4 aired a dark two-part TV movie called "Low Winter Sun" starring Mark Strong ("Zero Dark Thirty," "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy") as one of two police officers in Edinburgh, Scotland, who conspire to murder a fellow officer and then discover that nothing is as it seems.
Starting Sunday, Aug. 11, AMC airs a 10-episode American adaptation of "Low Winter Sun" set in in the former industrial titan of Detroit.
Strong reprises his role as Detective Frank Agnew; Lennie James ("Jericho," "The Walking Dead") plays his partner in crime, Detective Joe Geddes. Also starring are James Ransone, Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Sprague Grayden, Athena Karkanis, Billy Lush and David Costabile; Erika Alexander has a recurring role.
Ironically, along with Strong playing an American, the British-born James continues his run of American TV roles. Playing a police detective and former Jesuit seminarian who turns to the dark side intrigued him.

Norman is left juggling his life as a teenager in high school with his life as the sole caretaker for his dying father. This is a lot of stress for an emotionally fragile teenager and Norman has decided not to tell anyone at school about his father's rapidly deteriorating health. With no one to confide in (or vent to) about his situation, it is no surprise when Norman snaps at his best friend (Billy Lush); but instead of explaining his situation at home -- which, it seems, Norman finds embarrassing -- Norman exclaims that he is dying of stomach cancer. Whether or not this is a simple slip of the tongue or a purposeful plea for attention and sympathy,...

Chicago – The 2011 remake of Sam Peckinpah’s galvanizing 1971 classic is a film destined to appeal to no one. It’s not poorly made, and the writer/director Rod Lurie is gifted at crafting suspenseful morality tales (such as the under-appreciated “Nothing But the Truth”). But it’s difficult to understand why Lurie would bother putting his personal stamp on a picture that he considers repugnant.
By taking the moral high ground and cutting out the original film’s offensive content, Lurie has entirely lost the point of Peckinpah’s tale, and instead veered into severely hypocritical territory. If “Straw Dogs” isn’t about the animalistic nature of man, then what’s left to explore? It’s like draining the anti-Semitism out of “Triumph of the Will.” Lurie has essentially taken Peckinpah’s blueprint and morphed it into one of those maddening “Get the Hell Out Of There” idiot plots inhabited...

Although it lacks the grit of Sam Peckinpah.s 1971 original and has several problems that hurt the overall story, Straw Dogs is a tense thriller that uses a slow-burn pace to examine how far a good man can be pushed before he pushes back. Based on Gordon Williams' novel The Siege of Trencher's Farm and on the screenplay by David Zelag Goodman and Peckinpah, the remake was directed by Rod Lurie (who also penned the updated screenplay) and stars James Marsden, Kate Bosworth, Alexander Skarsgård, James Woods, Dominic Purcell, Rhys Coiro, Billy Lush, Laz Alonso, Willa Holland, Walton Goggins, Anson Mount, Drew Powell, Kristen Shaw, and Megan Adelle. Trading rural England for Blackwater, Mississippi, the film follows married...

Sam Peckinpah’s controversial Straw Dogs gets a Hollywood remake starring James Marsden and Kate Bosworth. The results, Ryan writes, are rather mixed…
The ultimate question that plagues the release of any remake is, “Why bother?” It’s something that could be asked of any number of the legion horror remakes we’ve seen in recent years (though admittedly, some have been perfectly entertaining), but it’s particularly appropriate in the case of Rod Lurie’s redo of Sam Peckinpah’s controversial 1971 thriller, Straw Dogs.
Why remake a film so of its time, and so clearly Peckinpah’s own – a brutal, nihilistic psychological stand-off based on a book by Gordon Williams?
The original saw Dustin Hoffman’s meek American mathematician head to a quiet Cornish village, the birthplace of his wife Amy (Susan George). There, Hoffman engages in a battle of testosterone and wits against its sturdier menfolk, who are...

An angsty teenager looking to find himself falls in love and deals with tremendous personal pain. Sound familiar? It should; that could be the basic log line to a multitude of indie coming-of-age dramedies. Norman, from director Jonathan Segal, doesn’t really break the mold of said formula, even installing a hipster-accessible soundtrack, courtesy of Andrew Bird, for added oomph.
Still, there are some truly moving and memorable performances that keep it afloat. Dan Byrd stars as the title character, a 16-year old who is not only reeling from the death of his mother six months before, but is also taking care of his father (Richard Jenkins), who’s slowly losing his battle with stomach cancer. Needless to say, all of this is getting to him, and he lashes out against himself (by putting himself into emotionally painful situations, like getting made fun of by the popular kids when he...

Chicago – His eyes are at once weary and sardonic, brooding and vulnerable. He doesn’t know how to cry for help, apart from crying wolf. He resists the spotlight when it’s placed upon him and yet still craves attention from his peers. He’s deeply cynical about life in general, yet is prone to falling for the sweetness of a pure-hearted soul. And he’d probably be well adjusted if it weren’t for the enormous weight on his shoulders.
Rating: 4.0/5.0
He’s Norman, the titular subject of Jonathan Segal’s terrific indie dramedy, which is finally making its theatrical debut after garnering acclaim on the festival circuit. Unlike many high school outcasts in modern film, Norman has the look, the behavior and the attitude of a real teenager. His uncommon intelligence and natural wit are apparent in his dialogue, but he’s not scoring hyper-stylized punchlines like Juno.

Norman Trailer. Jonathan Segal‘s Norman (2010) movie trailer stars Dan Byrd, Emily VanCamp, Richard Jenkins, Adam Goldberg, and Billy Lush. Norman‘s plot synopsis: “Norman Long is a high school loner, a self-aware and darkly funny teen who’s just trying to handle his daily existence. In the wake of his mother’s sudden death, Norman must now also deal with the reality that his father is starting to lose his battle with stomach cancer.
Norman, depressed and angry, unintentionally gets caught in a lie that he, in fact, has stomach cancer. Soon his complete distortion of the facts spirals out of control. Part coping mechanism, partially as a way to feel closer to his father, and to a certain degree to prepare others for his possible suicide, Norman begins to imitate his father’s debilitating physical symptoms, dramatically affecting his life and the world around him.

Here's another one from Spokane, Washington and the festival circuit last year, titled Norman, about a high school boy named Norman Long, played by Dan Byrd (seen in The Hills Have Eyes, Lonely Hearts, Easy A, "Cougar Town"), with a bleak outlook on life who is pretending to have cancer. This trailer sells it in a different way though, involving a story with his dad, played by Richard Jenkins. The cast includes Emily VanCamp, Adam Goldberg, Billy Lush and Camille Mana. This looks quite good, thought it was worth featuring today. Watch the official theatrical trailer for Jonathan Segal's Norman, via Apple: You can also download this new Norman trailer in High Definition on Apple A troubled high-school kid named Norman pretending to have cancer deals with problems involving his new girlfriend and terminally ill father.

Title: Straw Dogs Directed By: Rod Lurie Starring: James Marsden, Kate Bosworth, Alexander Skarsgård, James Woods, Dominic Purcell, Rhys Coiro, Billy Lush, Laz Alonso, Willa Holland, Walton Goggins, Drew Powell Whether or not you’ve seen the original, the promotion campaign for Straw Dogs lays it out quite clearly; this film boasts a bloodbath. Emotion? Character development? Some sense? Not so much. But, if you’ve got a taste for this type of horror film and don’t mind forgoing effective storytelling for some gruesome and original kills, it might be worth a watch. Big time screenwriter David (James Marsden) and his wife Amy (Kate Bosworth) ditch Los Angeles so he can take...

Four swanky new posters for Rod Lurie’s (probably) totally unnecessary remake of “Straw Dogs”, a film that once again warns us what we already know, that city slickers and rednecks with guns just don’t mix. To be perfectly honest, rednecks with guns don’t mix well with anything, but you throw in a couple of city slickers, and it’s off the rails right there, folks. The studio has released a new batch of images (over 20+) from Rod Lurie’s remake of “Straw Dogs”. The film opens next month, but it doesn’t seem to be generating all that much buzz. Maybe that’ll change as the release date nears, but at this point, I haven’t heard much of a peep for the film in terms of interest from the moviegoing public. Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for their upcoming remake of Sam Peckinpah’s landmark Straw Dogs. I have a love and hate relationship with remakes and reboots, but I must question why Hollywood seems to think this movie needs to be remade. It will be interesting to see if they can match the intensity in the original’s climax. However I said the very same thing about the I Spit On Your Grave remake, and I ended up liking the film more than its predecessor.

The brave officers of The Chicago Code fight for what's right in their fair city. Unfortunately, that battle doesn't attract enough viewers to keep their TV show on the air. Fox has cancelled the cop show after one season.
Created by The Shield's Shawn Ryan, The Chicago Code revolves around the officers of the Chicago Police Department. Veteran detective Jarek Wysocki (Jason Clarke) leads a special unit that fights against crime and corruption in the windy city. Others in the cast include Jennifer Beals, Matt Lauria, Devin Kelley, Todd Williams, Billy Lush, and Delroy Lindo.
The series debuted to an okay 2.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.43 million total viewers. In week two, it dropped 17% in the demo and the ratings kept dropping in subsequent weeks.

The cancellation axe of Fox has fallen hard tonight. The network ditched a handful of series, including newbies "Breaking In" and "Traffic Light" along with older fare like "Lie to Me" and "Human Target." But the most heartbreaking disappointment was the decision to kick "The Chicago Code" to the curb, a phenomenal show that was just beginning to peer over the brink of greatness.
The main thrust of the show tells the story of Teresa Colvin (Jennifer Beals), the first female appointed Superintendent of Police in Chicago, and her fight against crime and corruption in the city. The face of corruption is Alderman Ronin Gibbons (Delroy Lindo), a longtime city official and one of the most powerful men in the Chicago political scene. Colvin appoints her former partner Jarek Wysocki (Jason Clarke) and his new partner Caleb Evers (Matt Lauria) as heads of a secret task force assigned to expose Gibbons and his cronies.

Several weeks ago, Fox unveiled their latest cop drama called The Chicago Code. The series has the enviable position of following the network's popular House series. How have the ratings been? Strong enough to get it renewed or will it be cancelled?

Writer-producer Shawn Ryan had huge success with five seasons of cop show The Shield (which helped reverse the fortunes of cable network FX), then encountered colossal failure when his detective drama Terriers failed to turn critical adulation into ratings, and was cancelled after one season. Ryan’s now moved from cable to network television for another cop show on Fox, originally titled Ride-Along before being renamed The Chicago Code.
The Pilot makes for an immediately propulsive and interesting hour, as we’re introduced to Teresa Colvin (Jennifer Beals), Chicago’s first female superintendent, who’s denied permission to form a corruption taskforce by politician Ronin Gibbons (Delroy Lindo) — no surprise there, as Alderman Gibbons is the very man her taskforce would be challenged to expose as a crook. Across town, we meet veteran homicide detective Jarek Wysocki (Jason Clarke) and his inexperienced partner Caleb Evers (Matt Lauria) as they investigate a murder in Grant Park,...

The actor plays Liam Hennessy on the Fox drama, an undercover policeman working to bring down the Irish Mob. It's easy to fall in love with Matt Lauria. The actor, who stars on "Friday Night Lights" and Fox's new cop drama "The Chicago Code," has an infectious, child-like exuberance, and a sense of clarity—plus he's undeniably modest. Though his career is only beginning, he has already accomplished quite a bit.Lauria got his start at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, graduating in 2007 after studying in the classical theater training program. A Los Angeles showcase his class put on for agents and managers led him west, but it wasn't an easy decision to make. To him, New York's theater community molded actors. "I wanted to get out of school and have an opportunity to work in theater with actors in their 50s, 60s, 70s and learn my craft and sharpen my craft onstage with them," says Lauria, whose father is an animator. Believing that he...

Chicago – Is Rahm Emanuel taking notes? “The Chicago Code,” premiering on Fox TV on February 7th, exposes the underbelly of cops, bad guys and political corruption characteristic of the Windy City, and also has an intriguing cast and storytelling style.
Television Rating: 3.5/5.0
Jennifer Beals leads the way as Chicago police superintendent Teresa Colvin, whose honesty and dedication made her the youngest and first female top cop in the city’s history. Jason Clarke is Jarek Wysocki, a gritty street level detective who was once Colvin’s partner, and who has a reputation for no-nonsense policing. One of his main characteristics is that he can’t seem to tolerate new men, including his latest partner Caleb Evers (Matt Lauria). Overseeing them in city government is the powerful Alderman Gibbons (Delroy Lindo).
Superintendent Colvin is suspicious of Gibbons, and tries to form a task force to root out his misconduct. When the...

If you thought creator Shawn Ryan's last series, 'The Shield,' dove deep into a world of police and political corruption, just want until you see his new show, 'The Chicago Code' (premieres Monday, Feb. 7, 9Pm Et on Fox).
The amazing cast includes Jennifer Beals playing the first female superintendent of Chicago, determined to change the city; Jason Clarke as her former partner turned go-to guy for help on the ground; and Delroy Lindo as one of the city's most powerful men, who isn't exactly an angel.
Add to that a sharp rookie, played by Matt Lauria, and Billy Lush as a cop so deep undercover he doesn't really know what's right anymore and you've got a beautifully layered drama that's the best new show of the year.
