When it comes to identicial twin directors Michael and Peter Spierig have to be among our favorites. The brothers have been brought on to direct Fall 2, the first sequel to Scott Mann's indie thriller hit, Fall back in 2022. It will be the first of two sequels planned by producer Capstone Global. Mann has written the sequel with the first flick's co-writer Jonathan Frank. They will return to direct the third installment as well. Production on the sequel will begin next month. Director Scott Mann’s thriller Fall, which stars Grace Caroline Currey (Shazam!: Fury of the Gods) and Virginia Gardner (Halloween 2018) as a pair of characters who get stuck at the top of a 2000 foot tall radio tower, was given a theatrical release, but it wasn’t really a break-out hit. It made $21 million worldwide, on a budget of $3 million. More viewers watched it on Amazon, purchased it on Blu-ray or DVD (order it Here), or caught it on Starz or Netflix… and Fall was so successful on Netflix, it was enough to get back-to-back sequels greenlit by Capstone Studios! Mann will be writing and directing Fall 3 himself, but he has decided to hand the helm of the middle installment of this trilogy over another director. Or, as it turns out, other directors. Capstone Studios’ CEO Christian Mercuri has announced that Fall 2 is set to be directed by the filmmaking...

Fear reached dizzying new heights in Lionsgate’s Fall, a survival thriller from the producers of 47 Meters Down that was released in August 2022. Its surprise success means there are not one but two sequels on the way, and today, the Spierig Brothers have been announced to direct Fall 2.
Michael and Peter Spierig (Lionsgate’s Jigsaw, Winchester, Daybreakers) are set to direct the sequel. Scott Mann, who directed and co-wrote the first film, is returning to co-write Fall 2 with Jonathan Frank.

Daybreakers
Daybreakers is one of the most overlooked vampire movies of the modern era, but its sci-fi elements really do shine and its clinical vibes are not what you’d expect from your average bloodsucker tale. It’s inventive, entertaining, and definitely worth a look.

(Welcome to Year of the Vampire, a series examining the greatest, strangest, and sometimes overlooked vampire movies of all time in honor of "Nosferatu," which turns 100 this year.)
Vampire movies have been a part of cinema for a long, long time. Sure, a great many of those movies center on your classic "Dracula in a cape," and at times, that can be great. But vampire flicks that go a little bit outside the box have always been a little bit more my speed.
Such is the case with "Daybreakers," an ambitious, kind of crazy mid-size movie that has largely slipped through the cracks in the years since its release. I'm here to propose that we absolutely should not let it slip away entirely.
Directed by Michael Spierig and Peter Spierig, aka the Spierig brothers, the film takes place a decade after a plague turns most of the world's population into vampires.

There was a lot of confusion last year when it was revealed that Chris Rock, who isn’t exactly known for taking dramatic roles let alone entering the horror genre, was developing the ninth installment in the Saw franchise. Not only was he going to take the lead in what would eventually be titled Spiral: From the Book of Saw, but he’s also responsible for the outline of the story and even has an executive producer credit on the project.
Strange as it seemed, though, there was a sudden spark of interest in the property again, which only heightened when we learned that Samuel L. Jackson had also joined Spiral. The first trailer was pretty exciting, too, only showing us the film’s connection to the rest of the series in the final few moments. As such, excitement is now at an all-time high for the next chapter, which...

In what must surely be the most unsurprising (but no less reassuring) news of the day, Lionsgate’s Spiral: From The Book of Saw has officially been rated R for “sequences of grisly bloody violence and torture, pervasive language, some sexual references, and brief drug use.” Shock, horror!
Truth be told, the first-look teaser for Spiral, which is coming to us by way of Saw II producer Darren Lynn Bousman, opened up a brand new chapter in the Saw legacy, one in which Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson will be forced to follow a paper trail which may or may not lead to the dreaded Jigsaw.
So, in that respect, the presence of Rock and Jackson hints at a very different Saw movie, though longtime fans of the horror franchise needn’t worry about an identity crisis, as today’s announcement of a hard R rating for Spiral...

Friends and colleagues have paid tribute to film and TV first assistant director Jamie Leslie, who died on Friday from cancer. He was 62.
His final film in a distinguished 38-year career was Kriv Stenders’ Danger Close: The Battle of Long Tan.
“Not only was he an industry legend but he was an incredible mentor for me and a huge reason that film came to be,” Stenders says.
“Jamie came on early in pre-production when the film was teetering on the edge of an abyss. We weren’t bonded, we lost $2 million two weeks before shooting, we had no tanks, choppers or guns and we were running on fumes longer than I ever thought was humanly possible.
“But never once did he waver. He was my rock and every hour, every day we just worked the problem, until there was the next one.

A new kind of reality TV format is hitting Mipcom. Agc Television, the TV production and distribution unit of Stuart Ford’s indie content studio, Agc Studios, has joined forces with Emmy-winning executive producer Gretchen Goldsmith to produce a new hybrid format called “The Fandom.” This is the first music/reality show from Agc TV, which has been fast expanding its slate in both scripted and unscripted content.
At a time when networks are hard pressed to find original ideas in the unscripted TV sphere, “The Fandom” offers something new, Agc TV anounces.

Filmmaking brothers Michael and Peter Spierig have boarded the supernatural thriller series adaptation of the popular literary “Ben Walker” franchise, developed by Stuart Ford’s Agc Television.

Ford, Diaz, creator Christopher Golden, and Pete Donaldson for Donaldson Media & Consulting will executive produce.

John Kramer, otherwise known as the Jigsaw Killer, has a tendency of cheating death – even when the odds are stacked against him.
Such was the case during Michael and Peter Spierig’s Jigsaw, which brought Tobin Bell’s unhinged serial killer back from the brink for the first time in almost 10 years. And it seems there’s still life in the old dog yet, as divorce documents uncovered by The Blast (h/t Bloody Disgusting) reveal that Bell is scheduled to return for the ninth Saw movie that’s currently moving forward over at Twisted Pictures.
Still simmering in the formative stages of development, all we know for sure is that the studio has tasked Jigsaw duo Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg with crafting a script for Saw 9 (tentative title), so there’s no guarantee this mooted sequel will even see the light of day. Be that as it may,...

Helen Mirren and Jason Clarke star in this haunted house horror that’s based on the true story of The Winchester Mystery House. It’s directed by the Spierig Brothers, the German-born Australian directing duo whose previous films include 2014′s time-loop sci-fi Predestination and the recent Saw reboot, Jigsaw.
Set in San Francisco in 1906 (which ought to give history buffs something of a heads-up), Winchester centres on the true story of Sarah Winchester (Helen Mirren), the widow of the inventor of the Winchester repeating rifle and heir to the company’s vast fortune. Wracked with guilt over all the deaths her company has caused and haunted by their spirits, Sarah has devoted her widowhood to building a continually expanding mansion,...

This past weekend Lionsgate invited us out to the legendary Winchester Mystery House in San Jose CA where we were treated to a flashlight tour of the house! This was all done as a way to promote the released of the horror film Winchester on Digital HD, DVD, and Blu-ray.
I've been fascinated with the Winchester Mystery House ever since I first learned about it as a kid, so of course, I'm going to jump at the opportunity to take a flashlight tour of this wonderfully creepy house! So, I jumped in my Jeep and took a road trip up to San Jose to hunt some ghosts!
I met up with my friend Jake, who lives up in the area, and he documented our fun and spoooooky adventure and edited together a great little video for your viewing enjoyment! You can watch the video below and if you want, you...

Contrary to popular belief (and common sense?), Saw: The Final Chapter did not signal the end of Twisted Pictures and Lionsgate’s cult horror franchise. And neither did Jigsaw, it seems.
Sources close to Bloody Disgusting suggest Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg (Piranha 3D, Sorority Row) are currently in the midst of developing a ninth Saw movie, though it’s unclear if this continuation will be angled as a direct sequel to Jigsaw or The Final Chapter – or something else entirely.
What we can tell you, however, is that Jigsaw helmers Michael and Peter Spierig will not be returning to the director’s chair, meaning the Powers That Be will likely be sending out the feelers to find a potential replacement(s), if they haven’t already.
Buoyed by the return of John Kramer (Tobin Bell), Jigsaw scored $102 million off the back of a $10 million production budget back in October,...

To be fair to the Saw movies, it was no surprise that they would eventually bring it back; and when Jigsaw was announced, one of the main questions had to be how to bring back John Kramer (Tobin Bell)? If he was brought back at all? Well now we have our answer…
When bodies start turning up around the city, it seems that Jigsaw may have returned. With him being dead though, is it the work of a copycat, or has Kramer somehow returned from the grave ten years after his reign of terror?

Helen Mirren headlines Winchester, a horror movie that soon loses its way...
Not to be confused with Supernatural brothers Sam and Dean, Winchester is the new film from Michael and Peter Spierig, the duo behind Daybreakers and Predestination, but also last year's Jigsaw. It's a Hammer-style haunted house ghost story that finds Helen Mirren on unusual, scenery chewing form as Sarah Winchester, the widowed heiress to an empire of violence.
Subtitled as The House That Ghosts Built in some territories, this Australian-American co-production finds a very Hammer-esque character, doctor Eric Price (Jason Clarke), visiting Sarah's enormous mansion in San Jose, California. He's there to evaluate her mental health on behalf of her board of directors at the Winchester Repeating Arms company, after she has thrown herself and a lot of her money continuing construction on the mansion's eccentric architecture in order to stave off vengeful spirits. Dr. Price, a former soldier,...

MaryAnn’s quick take… The story of a fascinating woman retold in the most reductive, least resonant way possible, while actually sidelining her. Even cast as a simple haunted-house tale, it’s not even a little bit scary. I’m “biast” (pro): I’m desperate for movies about women…
I’m “biast” (con): …but this isn’t really about a woman
(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto) women’s participation in this film

This is definitely true: Sarah Winchester was heir to a fortune that made her one of the richest women in the world in the late 19th century, and a stakeholder in her deceased husband’s family business, the Winchester Repeating Arms Company. In 1886, five years after her husband’s death, she moved to San Jose, California, outside San Francisco, and began building a mad warren of a mansion...

Following a full seven years of silence, John Kramer staged his triumphant (and terrifying!) return last October with Jigsaw, and though the critics weren’t particularly kind to Michael and Peter Spierig’s horror revival, Lionsgate is reportedly keen on jump-starting another entry in the cult series – whether we like it or not. But just where can a potential Saw 9 go from here?
Well, according to Peter, their film left a lot of plot threads to be picked up on and actually, kind of already set up the next outing, though you may not have noticed it. Speaking to Screen Rant in a recent interview to promote the upcoming home video release of Jigsaw, the co-director explained that they secretly planted seeds for Saw 9, saying:

It shouldn't happen to anyone, much less a Dame– not a movie of such barreling awfulness as Winchester, which strands thegreat Helen Mirren in a gothic house of cards that collapses on actors andaudiences alike. Dame Helen plays heiress Sarah Lockwood Winchester, a widow who inherited a bundle from her husband William, whose familyfounded the world-famous Winchesterrifle company. Set in 1906, the film – jointly written and directed by thoseAussie twins Michael and Peter Spierig, the one who recently inflicted the Saw sequel Jigsaw on payingcustomers – purports to be "inspired by actual events.

Directed by Michael and Peter Spierig and starring Helen Mirren, Winchester is the latest gothic horror offering from the people who brought you, amongst other things, the hugely underrated 2009 film Predestination, an adaptation of Robert A. Heinlein’s cult sci-fi novel All You Zombies. However, anyone expecting more of the same from the hard working duo’s latest outing would be sorely let down by this deeply muddled and frankly baffling production, which simply fails to deliver on an otherwise great premise.
Set sometime around the turn of the last century, Winchester opens with a laughably predictable “based on a true story” pre-credit title and carries on much in the same fashion with a crash, a bang, and jump-scare until its inevitable denouement, which couldn’t come soon enough.

Helen Mirren wears a widow’s funeral veil for much of this supernatural spine-tingler, possibly in anticipation of its box-office prospects. Billed as being “inspired by actual events,” Winchester draws on a fascinating true story but then simplifies and sensationalizes it to fit creaky, clunky horror conventions. The joint directors and co-writers are Australian twin brothers Michael and Peter Spierig, who scored critical acclaim with their 2014 sci-fi thriller Predestination, then rebooted the Saw slasher franchise last year with the poorly reviewed but commercially successful Jigsaw.

Here's a bit of movie confusion that I didn't see coming! Apparently, some fans of the Supernatural TV series think that the upcoming Winchester horror movie is some kind of a spinoff for the series. You know, because of the name Winchester.
There has been so much confusion about this, that Lionsgate felt they needed to release a little statement with their latest promo spot for the film. The promo came with the following note:
No, the brothers do not show up in Winchester. This is a feature-length movie, not a short film and if they teamed up with Sarah the three would wrap things up in minutes.
I think I'm more surprised by how many people aren't familiar with the Winchester Mystery House, which is what the film is based on. Regardless, the movie looks like it's going to great! Did any of you think that this was a Supernatural-type spinoff film?...

Alien vs. Predator, Freddy vs. Jason, Godzilla vs. Kong, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice…the list of big-name movie crossovers is as long as it is diverse, but the chances of Jigsaw crossing paths with another horror mascot are slim to none.
That’s according to the man behind the killer, Tobin Bell, who sat down with ComicBook.com to discuss John Kramer’s second coming. It wasn’t exactly an instant classic, but Michael and Peter Spierig’s Jigsaw was still a fairly competent expansion of the Saw saga, and though Lionsgate is said to be kicking around ideas for a bona fide follow-up, the idea of Kramer wandering over into another franchise – be it Friday the 13th or A Nightmare on Elm Street – is ostensibly off the table.

Did you know that the eighth and most recent film in the Saw franchise, Jigsaw, was a huge success? The film was made on a budget of $10 million and it made over $100 million at the box office. That's an epic profit. So it shouldn't come as a surprise to you to learn that Lionsgate wants to make another sequel.
Even though Jigsaw (Tobin Bell) was killed off in Saw III, his horrific legend lives on and the studio just won't him really die. According to Bloody-Disgusting, Twisted Pictures is planning a ninth Saw movie and as of right now things are just in conversation mode. One thing they seem to know for sure is that Jigsaw directors Michael and Peter Spierig will not be returning to direct the film.

After the success of Jigsaw, the Saw franchise looks set to keep going...
The revival of the Saw franchise in the form of Jigsaw last year did the required business for Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures. The $10m production grossed over $100m worldwide at the box office, and should add a few coins off its incoming home release.
And as a consequence, conversations are now said to be underway about a further film, that would be Saw 9.
There’s nothing formal at this stage, and Bloody Disgusting reports that Jigsaw directors Michael and Peter Spierig wouldn’t return for the next film. We suspect it’s a case of when, rather than if, a further Saw movie happens, though. We'll keep you posted.
As for Jigsaw, it arrives on digital download on 19th February. And then on DVD, Blu-ray, Ultra HD 4K Blu-ray, Steelbook and boxset from 26th February.
