The MonsterVerse keeps getting bigger and bigger, with the TV series "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters" landing a second season on Apple TV+ (along with multiple other spin-offs in the works) and "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" becoming the highest grossing Godzilla movie ever. (In case you missed it, you can check out our review of the latest monster mash right here.) The film takes place after Godzilla and Kong -- having joined forces for their battle against Mechagodzilla in "Godzilla vs. Kong" -- divide the planet between them. Godzilla stays on the surface, sleeping on the Roman Colosseum like a cat, while Kong goes on a little bachelor adventure in Hollow Earth.
However, things get complicated when Kong encounters a civilization of giant apes and winds up in a fight with their leader, Skar King. This leads to a larger battle against an army of giant apes and a...

Recently, Takashi Yamazaki's "Godzilla Minus One" made Academy Award history by winning the Best Visual Effects category, becoming the first film in the decade-spanning franchise to win an Oscar. An absolutely deserved win aside, it is one that feels both unexpected and a long time coming, with the future of the kaiju looking brighter than ever. One of the reasons why "Godzilla Minus One" is such an impactful entry can be chalked up to how humanity bands together to defeat a mammoth, indestructible force while also dealing with a socio-political situation that mirrors some of the bleakest moments in Japanese history. It is a film that ventures way beyond the spectacle of an incomprehensible beast stomping around without any regard for human lives, with the focus often shifting to the intricate inner lives of everyday citizens working together to achieve the impossible.

Godzilla vs. Kong director Adam Wingard is returning to the helm for a sequel that has been shrouded in secrecy for months – all we’ve heard up to this point was that Wingard’s The Guest star Dan Steven had joined the cast, and that was way back in May. But now Warner Bros. and Legendary have sent out a press release to give us more information on this currently untitled addition to the Monsterverse, which is scheduled to reach theatres on March 15, 2024.
The press release reveals that the screenplay for this film was written by Terry Rossio (the Pirates of the Caribbean series), Jeremy Slater (Moon Knight), and Simon Barrett (You’re Next), the three of them crafting a story that

What if you could make your peace with your own history? What if you could, as an adult, go back and make peace with your younger self, and make your peace with the parents we failed to understand when we were growing up? What if you could go back and reconnect with your parents with the benefit of a lifetime of wisdom and perspective? These are the questions director Shawn Levy asks in his latest film The Adam Project. Starring Ryan Reynolds, Walker Scobell, Jennifer Garner, Mark Ruffalo, Zoe Saldaña and Catherine Keener, the film is the story of a time-traveling pilot Adam Reed (Reynolds) who teams up with his younger self, (Scobell), and his late father, Louis Reed (Ruffalo) to come to terms with his past, and losses, while saving the future.
In this throwback to the sci-films from the 80’s, the filmmaker proves with The Adam Project the power of nostalgia.

Over the past 25 years, visual effects have morphed from a sometimes-niche component of a sci-fi or adventure film to a fundamental part of nearly every movie or TV show. But this boom hasn’t generally created increased opportunity for women and women of color, though.
Despite the desperate need for qualified VFX artists, producers and supervisors to meet the increasing demand, a report by Women in Animation, an advocacy group, and the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative found that just 2.9% of all VFX supervisors are women and only 0.5% are women of color. When they looked at the number of women credited for VFX work over time, the numbers also didn’t show that much improvement. When the groups analyzed the 400 top-earning films from 2016 through 2019, it was found that women were given 20.8%
of the VFX credits in 2016 and 22.6% in 2019.
The report also looked at how women were acknowledged for their work during awards season.

“Ghostbusters: Afterlife”
The VFX team at Mpc Film was responsible for animating the Mini-Pufts scene for “Ghostbusters: Afterlife.” “It was one of those moments when you remember why you wanted to be an animator and work in VFX,” says Mpc Film animation supervisor Christophe Paradis.
In one memorable sequence, the mischievous Mini-Pufts marshmallows cause havoc in a Walmart, burning, blending and melting each another.
“In our dailies sessions with director Jason Reitman and production supervisor Alessandro Ongaro, our team was encouraged to bring their own ideas to the table,” says VFX supervisor Pier Lefebvre. “I think the choreography was the perfect combination of gruesome, evil, infantile, savage, unhinged and funny, all while bringing personality to each marshmallow. Our inspiration for the scene included the 1984 movie ‘Gremlins,’ released the same year as the original ‘Ghostbusters.’”
