ScreenSkills Chair Steps Down
Former Endemol Shine boss Richard Johnston is stepping down from TV and film industry body ScreenSkills. Johnston will be replaced by Vice Chair Lisa Opie temporarily, while Kate Lyndon becomes interim Vice Chair. “It’s been an absolute privilege to chair ScreenSkills over the last seven years, during which time we’ve completely reinvented the organization and helped thousands of people across the industry,” said Johnston. Amongst other areas, Johnston played a significant role in creating the Unscripted TV Skills Fund, which has received an income of £5.67M ($7.1M) from 367 production companies to date. He was also key to securing BFI-awarded National Lottery funding for the Future Film Skills Programme, which supported more than 90,544 new entrants to the sector.

David Walliams has filed suit against “Britain’s Got Talent” producer Fremantle after he was accused last November for allegedly making sexually explicit comments about a contestant.
The data protection suit was filed last week.
Walliams parted ways with the show, which airs in the U.K. on ITV, last November after transcripts were leaked to The Guardian newspaper in which he reportedly made a number of derogatory comments about contestants.
In the leaked transcripts, which came from three auditions filmed in London in 2020, Walliams was reportedly recorded calling one contestant, a senior citizen, a “cunt” and said of another contestant, who is female: “She thinks you want to fuck her, but you don’t,” adding she had given him a “boner” before it “shrivelled up inside my body.” The Guardian claimed to have reviewed the transcripts.

Hannah Waddingham is sharing the powerful impact "Ted Lasso" - and its unique brand of magic - had on her acting career. Following the series finale on May 31, the actor appeared on "The View" on June 15 and spoke about how the feel-good series helped her overcome one of her greatest insecurities as an actor: her height.
"Being a woman who's not small, very tall, I had always struggled," said Waddingham, who is 5'11". She went on to explain how her stature has always been a disadvantage since she began her acting career in the early 2000s. Waddingham even recalled being turned down on more than one occasion because her male costar would have been shorter than her. When it came to booking her spot on "Ted Lasso," however, Waddingham was shocked that her costar Jason Sudeikis was not threatened by her height.
"Jason was like, 'I don't care if she wears four-inch heels.

Swedish singer Loreen was named the winner of Eurovision 2023 for her pop anthem “Tattoo,” triumphing over 25 other nations in the finals on Saturday night.
This is her second time winning the contest, first earning the top prize for Sweden in 2012. She joins Ireland’s Johnny Logan, who won in 1980 and 1987, as a two-time winner. Sweden also has the joint amount of wins in the contest with Ireland at seven victories each.

Loreen performed her song between two moving platforms, dancing around the stage while singing the chorus, “You’re stuck on me like a tattoo-hoo-hoo.

Mr. Blobby is a character who originally featured on Noel Edmonds‘ Saturday night show, Noel’s House Party, in the 90s where he became a British TV icon. He stayed on the show until it ended in 1999.
Even before his act started, Cowell said that he “hated” the character.

The theme of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, ‘United by Music,’ announced both the annual musical extravaganza’s all-embracing intentions and its status as a joint endeavor. With 2022 winners Ukraine unable to host in Kyiv due to the war, the U.K. – last year’s runners-up, thanks to Sam Ryder’s soaring “Space Man” – stepped in to reinstall this ever more spectacular circus (along with multiple Ukrainian creative personnel) in Liverpool, birthplace of the Beatles. A declaration that this was to be the glitziest of collabs was served via a prologue that paired Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra, reworking last year’s winning entry “Stefania”, with the Princess of Wales, apparently providing piano accompaniment from within Windsor Castle. Soft power-a-go-go.

It’s two minutes into the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 and I already have chills. I’m watching something a lot of British people thought we’d never see: a Eurovision hosted in the U.K. After years of abysmal performances and frustration, the U.K. finally changed the narrative last year, finishing in second place behind Ukraine. Because of Russia’s invasion of their country, Ukraine is unable to host, so the northern English city of Liverpool has stepped up to host on their behalf. The show was opened by Kalush Orchestra,...

Music fans can thank Eurovision for launching the careers of Abba, Celine Dion, Olivia Newton-John and Måneskin. The Coronation was but the warm-up event. This coming Saturday sees the UK play host to the 67th Eurovision Song Contest and venue city Liverpool is pulling out all the stops.
Sunday evening even saw local chart-toppers – from 40 years ago – Frankie Goes to Hollywood reunite after an acrimonious split in 1987. The band, responsible for huge hits ‘Relax’ and ’Two Tribes’, took to the stage at an outdoor event in Liverpool which signalled the beginning of this special Eurovision week for the city.
Frankie fans were delighted to see the band back together, although they were left bemused by them playing only one song ‘Welcome to the Pleasuredome’ before lead vocalist Holly Johnson told fans, “Bless you. Lovely to see you all,” and the band left the stage.

In the spring of 2007, the United Kingdom joined eight other countries in launching its own talent search TV program entitled “Britain’s Got Talent.” Except for a Covid-19 pandemic-induced break in 2021, a new season of the series has aired every year since, with the last having concluded with comedian Viggo Venn’s victory in June 2023. Venn is the 16th performer to take the “Bgt” crown. Scroll through our photo gallery to see and learn about him and everyone else on the “Britain’s Got Talent” winners list.
Since its inception, “Britain’s Got Talent” has been hosted by comedians Ant & Dec and judged by Simon Cowell and Amanda Holden. Alesha Dixon began her hosting tenure in 2012, while Bruno Tonioli just started in 2023. The first champion, opera singer Paul Potts, defeated 23 other semifinalists, with six-year-old vocalist Connie Talbot coming in second.

Simon Cowell has spoken out for the first time on David Walliams’ departure from Britain’s Got Talent.
Bgt returned for its 16th season over the weekend, with longtime star Cowell reuniting with Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon on the judging panel.
The trio were joined by Bruno Toniolo, who has stepped in to replace Walliams.
Back in January, it was confirmed that the Little Britain star would not be reprising his role as a judge on the reality competition following reports that he had made disrespectful comments about contestants.
A transcript obtained by The Guardian allegedly revealed that Walliams described a woman contestant as being like “the slightly boring girl you meet in the pub that thinks you want to f*** them, but you don’t”.
Walliams apologised for his “disrespectful” comments at the time, stating: “These were private conversations and – like most conversations with friends – were never intended to be shared.

Bruno Tonioli caused quite the scene on his first ever episode of Britain’s Got Talent, after replacing David Walliams on the judging panel.
The former Strictly Come Dancing judge appeared on the show for the first time last night (15 April), having never watched it before.
He is now a regular judge alongside Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden and Simon Cowell.
Because he’d never seen the ITV show, Tonioli didn’t realise that he was supposed to press his red buzzer to reject hopeful contestants mid-audition. Instead, he did it after they’d finished. “No, you don’t have to do that as well,” Cowell told him, while laughter could be heard from the audience.
Tonioli also pressed his golden buzzer in the middle of an act’s audition (though he was meant to wait until it was finished). This meant that while Ugandan dance troupe Ghetto Kids were still performing,...

Britain’s Got Talent returns to ITV tonight for its 16th series – and there’s been a shake-up on the judging panel.
Former Strictly Come Dancing judge Bruno Tonioli has stepped in to replace David Walliams, and will appear on the panel alongside Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden and Simon Cowell.
Walliams’ exit was shrouded in controversy, following reports he had made disrespectful comments about contestants.
The comedian had been a judge on Bgt from 2012 until 2022, when a transcript obtained by The Guardian allegedly revealed that Walliams described a woman as being like “the slightly boring girl you meet in the pub that thinks you want to f*** them, but you don’t”.
In an apology shared with The Independent at the time, Walliams said: “I would like to apologise to the people I made disrespectful comments about during breaks in filming for Britain’s Got Talent in 2020.

Bruno Tonioli has praised David Walliams for reaching out with a “class” response after he joined the panel of Britain’s Got Talent.
The former Strictly Come Dancing judge will appear alongside Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden and Simon Cowell on the judging panel for the new series of the talent competition, which returns this week.
Tonioli replaces Little Britain star Walliams, whose departure was announced in January. Months earlier, Walliams had come under fire after a leaked set recording from 2020 heard the actor and author making sexually explicit comments about a Bgt contestant.
Speaking to the Radio Times, Tonioli said that Walliams had been the first person to congratulate him for joining the show.
“I haven’t seen David, but he was the first person to send me a message saying congratulations,” the Italian choreographer said.
“He also sent a fantastic bottle of Italian wine to my dressing room on my first day.

Ant and Dec have opened up about the “mischievous” way they introduced Bruno Tonioli to the Britain’s Got Talent family.
The ITV talent show returns this weekend, with former Strictly Come Dancing judge Tonioli joining the panel alongside Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon.
Speaking ahead of the series, Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly admitted that, during the first day of auditions, they gave the new judge a number of different rules to confuse him.
“We, quite mischievously, kept telling him different rules,” Donnelly told the Pa news agency. “So when he hit his golden buzzer on the first session of the first day, mid-way through an act, we told him not to worry because he had another golden buzzer tomorrow, and that he had one every day.

For the first time in its history, the Eurovision Song Contest will be broadcast live in cinemas across the UK.
The European Broadcasting Union, who runs the event, has confirmed the grand final of this year’s Contest – to take place in the northern UK city of Liverpool on May 13th – will be beamed into cinemas, where they also encourage fancy dress and singalongs.
After many years of Brits slighting the event, which they haven’t won since 1997, Eurovision has caught the imagination in the UK this year, following the British entry Sam Ryder’s second place last year.
Ukraine won, but the UK will be hosting in its place, while the war continues in the eastern European country.
Tickets for seats in the Liverpool arena – for the grand-final plus two semi-finals and rehearsals – were sold out within 40 minutes of going on sale.

Strictly Come Dancing judge Bruno Tonioli has replaced David Walliams on Britain’s Got Talent.
In a video circulating on Twitter of a rehearsal, hosts Ant and Dec, who have just signed a three-year ITV contract, introduced Tonioli alongside fellow judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon. Reports had connected Tonioli with the role several weeks ago and it was confirmed by Fremantle shortly afterwards.
Tonioli will replace Walliams in the long-running hit ITV show, following a Guardian report late last year which included a recording of Walliams making derogatory remarks about contestants including calling one a “c**t” and saying of another: “She thinks you want to f**k her, but you don’t.”
Tonioli was a Strictly judge from its inception until last year when he was replaced by Anton Du Beke. The Dancing With the Stars judge had been absent from the 2020 edition due to Covid-19.

Debuting on New Year’s Day, the top-secret singing competition welcomed a new batch of 13 incognito celebrities to compete in its fourth season.
During the first episode of the competition – which sees celebrities dressed in head-to-toe costumes to conceal their identity while they perform – Knitting was the first to display her talents.
Performing her rendition of Becky Hill’s song “Remember” for the panel of judges, Knitting narrowly escaped elimination.
Among the first-round competitors were Ghost, Jellyfish, Jacket Potato, Phoenix, and duo Cat and Mouse.
Ultimately, Ghost was this season’s first elimination, later revealing his identity as former footballer Chris Kamara. Cat and Mouse were unmasked as Martin and Shirlie Kemp in episode three.
Who is Knitting?
Ahead of Knitting’s performance, her clue video showed her standing in a crafty scene as she cut scraps of paper into geometrical shapes.

Alan Carr is set to replace David Walliams on the new series of Britain’s Got Talent, reports have claimed.
In November, Walliams apologised after he was recorded making sexually explicit comments about a Bgt contestant during the 2020 auditions process.
According to a transcript obtained by The Guardian, the Little Britain creator allegedly compared one female auditionee to “the slightly boring girl you meet in the pub that thinks you want to f*** them, but you don’t”.
He also reportedly called a pensioner a “c***” three times after he lightly poked fun at Walliams on stage.
Walliams apologised at the time, telling The Independent: “I would like to apologise to the people I made disrespectful comments about during breaks in filming for Britain’s Got Talent in 2020. These were private conversations and – like most conversations with friends – were never intended to be shared. Nevertheless, I am sorry.”

“America’s Got Talent: All-Stars” kicks off on Monday January 1, 2023. This special edition of “AGT” pits acts from around the world against each other in a search for the best of the best. Sitting in judgement will be three of the four “America’s Got Talent” judges: Simon Cowell and Howie Mandel who have been part of the panel for years plus Heidi Klum, who returned in season 15 as an “AGT” judge after a one-season break.
That same season also saw the introduction of the fourth member of the jury, “Modern Family” scene stealer Sofia Vergara. This in-demand actress was unable to attend the tapings of “America’s Got Talent: All-Stars.” That is such a shame as she is one of of our favorite judges.
But where does she land in our “America’s Got Talent” judges ranking? And how do each of three veterans fare among all the “AGT” judges ranked from worst to best?...

When Jimmy Fallon’s popular late-night segment-turned-spinoff “That’s My Jam” launches on the BBC on Saturday, British comedian Mo Gilligan will be at the helm, making his debut in a major primetime slot.
Gilligan and Fallon have a lot in common: Both have reinvigorated late-night TV on their respective sides of the pond. With catchy segments like “History of Rap” and “Lip Sync Battle,” Fallon brought a musical flavor to late night long before James Corden’s “Carpool Karaoke” ever pulled up. Meanwhile, Gilligan, host of Channel 4’s “The Lateish Show” and “The Big Narstie Show,” shepherded a new wave of British late-night programming.
“It’s not to say there weren’t ones before,” says Gilligan, citing Alan Carr and Graham Norton as earlier U.K. late-night stars. It was more saying, “Where do I fit in, being a young Black guy? I really wanted to bring my own identity.

David Walliams’ future as a judge on Britain’s Got Talent is “very much up in the air”, a spokesperson for the ITV show has said.
It comes after reports in The Sun newspaper that the comedian will be leaving the show after 10 years as a judge, having first joined the panel in 2012.
Walliams recently apologised for making “disrespectful comments” about contestants during breaks in filming the popular show.
But a spokesperson for Bgt said that no final decision had been made around the 2023 judging line-up.
“The judging panel for Britain’s Got Talent 2023 will be announced in due course,” the spokesperson said in a statement to the Pa news agency. “It’s still very much up in the air at the moment on whether David is going to take part in next year’s show.
“No decision, though, has been made as yet.”

David Walliams has admitted to making sexually explicit remarks about a Britain’s Got Talent contestant.
The Little Britain comedian and children’s book author, who is a judge on the ITV series, apparently made the offensive comments during an audition show in January 2020 at the London Palladium.
Walliams’s remarks were picked up by microphones placed on the desks by producers in order to pick up the conversations between judges after each audition.
One moment caught by the audio, which was in a transcript obtained by The Guardian, allegedly hears Walliams, 51, describe a woman as being like “the slightly boring girl you meet in the pub that thinks you want to f*** them, but you don’t”.
He is said to then add: “I know, she’s just like: ‘Oh, f*** off!’ I was saying, she thinks you want to f*** her, but you don’t. It’s the last thing on your mind,...
