Anthrax played their first show with original bassist Dan Lilker in 40 years on Saturday, April 13th, in Mexico City.
Lilker is filling in on Anthrax’s South American run and Spring 2024 US festival dates for Frank Bello, who is sitting out the shows due to “personal reasons.” The band kicked of the itinerary in Mexico City at Mxmf The Metal Fest, running through a 12-song set that leaned heavily on Anthrax’s most popular songs.

Lilker co-founded Anthrax in 1981 as the band’s original bassist and occasional guitarist. He co-wrote and performed on Anthrax’s 1984 debut Fistful of Metal before parting ways with Scott Ian and company. Two songs from that album were played in Mexico City: “Metal Thrashing Mad” and “Deathrider” (marking the first performance of the latter since 2014).
Anthrax will continue to play festivals in South America throughout the remainder of April. From there,...

Officially, Prime Video’s spy drama Mr. and Mrs. Smith is based on the 2005 film of the same name. Unofficially, however, its origins are a bit murkier. Though this 2024 streaming iteration of Mr. and Mrs. Smith starring Donald Glover and Maya Erskine shares its basic premise with the previous Brad Pitt and Angelina-starring version (a married couple who also happen to be spies), the series diverges from it in some major ways as well.
In an interview with The Today Show, Glover (who also co-created the 2024 series) even admitted to not having seen the 2005 Doug Liman-directed film when he decided to embark upon the project. Co-creator Francesca Sloane wrote in an open letter to fans that “No one would need a show that retold the same blockbuster movie. But what we set out to do was to make something wholly original.”

Netflix’s “Beef” won big at the much-delayed 2023 Emmys with eight awards across all categries, but the future of the limited series is still up in the air.
“I feel like there are so many paths. It could stay limited — it was a very close-ended story for sure. But if Netflix wanted to continue, it could also be anthology,” series creator Lee Sung Jin told reporters backstage at the Emmys. “It could be many things. It’s up to the great algorithm. We’re all waiting to hear.”
In November, it was announced that Lee, who also goes by Sonny Lee, signed a multi-year overall deal with Netflix, which covers both potential film and television projects.
On the red carpet before the Emmys ceremony, “Beef” star Steven Yeun told Variety‘s Marc Malkin he has “no clue” about a second season and said, “I defer to Sonny on all fronts.

Mark Ruffalo tells me he has, until now, kinda shied away from playing the villain of the piece. He licks his lips as he declares that it’s “so much fun to finally get to play the bad guy.”
He refers, of course, to his Duncan Wedderburn, the calculating cad of the first water he plays with zest in Yorgos Lanthimos’ delicious movie Poor Things.
The schemer Wedderburn sets his sights on Emma Stone’s Bella Baxter, but it is she who outwits him.
“The bad ones are the best and I was scared of it,” he tells me at Saturday’s BAFTA Tea Party, set on a mammoth, chilly terrace at The Maybourne Beverly Hills.
As I toyed with Ruffalo’s thesis in my head, I was unable to conjure any roles he’s played that were, hitherto, downright dastardly. His Bruce Banner stroke the Hulk in the Marvel movies is essentially decent,...

Emma Thompson has turned in a host of eclectic, effective, excellent performances throughout her illustrious career. She started out with period dramas such as “Howards End” and “The Remains of the Day” before later moving into fantasy with roles in “Nanny McPhee” and “Harry Potter.” Add to that top-tier performances in the likes of “Sense and Sensibility,” “Saving Mr. Banks,” “Cruella,” and “Good Luck to You, Leo Grande,” and you’ve got one hell of a performer.
However, Thompson has stated herself that the role she gets the most praise for is actually… “Love Actually.” The classic Richard Curtis Christmas movie, which turns 20 this year, tells the interconnected love stories of eight different sets of people with Thompson delivering the most emotional and heartbreaking storyline of all of them. Thompson’s Karen is an under-appreciated stay-at-home mother who spends her days looking after the kids, making costumes for their school nativity,...

All season long, the Emmy race for Best Movie/Limited Supporting Actress has been a battle between two front-runners: Niecy Nash-Betts (“Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story”) and Claire Danes (“Fleishman Is in Trouble”). Can anyone stop them from winning the trophy? Based on the combined odds at Gold Derby, the rest of the category is likely to be a mix of actresses from popular series like Maria Bello and Ashley Park (“Beef”), and beloved favorites from series not as much on the radar like Olivia Colman (“Great Expectations”) and Cherry Jones (“Five Days At Memorial”). But it’s still anyone’s game.
After all, recent history has shown us that the television academy has leaned more toward checking off numerous actors from the same series if it has enough buzz. One needs to look no further than last year in this very category, when only two limited series made up...

While Steven Yeun and Ali Wong are receiving the lion’s share of the many plaudits Netflix’s “Beef,” Maria Bello merits attention for her standout turn on the limited series. “Beef” follows the after-effects of a road-rage incident that consumes two people — Yeun’s Danny Cho and Wong’s Amy Lau. Danny is a down-on-his-luck contractor trying to piece together a living while literally living out of a motel with his brother (Young Mazino), who he is constantly at odds with. Amy, meanwhile, is a successful business owner trying to navigate the sale of her business to a larger company while stuck with a caring husband (Joseph Lee) who doesn’t seem to understand her.
Bello plays Jordan Forster, a wealthy and uber-successful businesswoman who heads up Forsters, a home improvement store and company. Forster tries to acquire Amy’s plant-selling business Kōyōhaus and dazzles Amy with wealth, opportunity,...
