The current generation of horror fans might know Shawnee Smith as the unstable Jigsaw protege, Amanda Young, in the "Saw" movie franchise, but older moviegoers remember the time she battled a supersized man-eating slimeball.
Chuck Russell's "The Blob" is one of the great movie remakes, retaining the small-town thrills of the 1958 original while improving elements like the incredible special effects needed to pull off the monster of the title. The story was originally inspired by the real-life accounts of two cops who, in 1950, observed something falling from the sky that, upon closer inspection, appeared to slowly propel itself. Irvin Yeaworth's atomic age feature was a highly dramatized version of said events, and by the time the 1988 version came along, the Blob went from an extraterrestrial substance to one engineered in a secret government lab. In Russell's iteration, Shawnee Smith stars as Meg Penny, one of the youths that go toe-to-slime with the creeping creature.

Guillermo del Toro is a fan and soon you will be too. Just wait until you see the art of Chet Zar, a former creature designer/makeup effects artist that worked on everything from The Blob to Darkman, Hellboy, and even Tool’s music videos. Since, he’s become a fine artist in the genre of Dark Art.
Bloody is excited to share his massive new hardcover art book, “Dy5topia: A Field Guide to the Dark Universe of Chet Zar”, which is a field guide that explains and categorizes the characters and mythology of the dystopian alternate dimension Chet Zar has been painting over the last 20 years.
Introduction excerpt by Mike Correll:
“When we embarked upon this journey to understand Dy5topia, we knew very little. What we did know existed in the paintings themselves. The paintings are the only ‘evidence’ that we can base our investigation and research on.

After spending decades proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that he was far more than just James Bond, seven-time 007 Sean Connery decided it was safe to dust off the persona for The Rock (1996), playing former Special Air Service spy John Mason. This brilliantly batshit Michael Bay action adventure extravaganza, which has aged like a fine Coppola wine, also made a Hollywood superstar out of Nicolas Cage, then a recent Oscar darling known more for offbeat character work than beating up baddies.
In the grand 1990s tradition, this riveting testosterone fest basically boils down to “Die Hard on Alcatraz.” And there’s nothing wrong with that. Deranged three-time Purple Heart winning Brigadier General Frank Hummel (Ed Harris) leads a cadre of his fellow special ops marines-turned-terrorists in stealing an arsenal of 50 Vx poison gas rocket warheads and, from a perch at de-commissioned military prison Alcatraz, threatening the city of San...

Over the decades, Clive Barker has given life to the creatures from his expansive imagination not only in his enduring books, but also through paintings, drawings, and jottings that tell stories of their own. The first two Imaginer art books have collected Barker’s popular characters and lesser-known (but equally important) creations, and the newly announced third volume looks to continue the tradition.
Presented by The Clive Barker Archive (operated by Phil and Sarah Stokes), Imaginer Volume III is now available to pre-order in three different editions: regular ($100), deluxe ($400), and “with thanks” deluxe ($750). The book is set to be published this summer.
Below, we have additional details and a look at the cover art and some of the artwork that will appear in the book. To learn more about Imaginer Volume III, visit:

Upstate New York is in for a crazy mix of cinema next month --- the 2015 Ithaca International Fantastic Film Festival lifted the lid on its second wave of features today. (You can read about our first wave announcement here.) Additions to the festival include Sono Shion's latest epic, Love & Peace, festival favorites Liza The Fox Fairy and Der Bunker, the '80s Scanners-influenced The Mind's Eye, and Scherzo Diabolico. And as I reported in that earlier post, attendees can also look forward to the silent film adaptation of The Fall Of The House Of Usher with live musical score, the Chet Zar monster art exhibit and documentary, and for all you shower warblers, I hear there will be karaoke at the closing night party."2015 was a tremendous year for the fantastic genre...

The organizers behind the Ithaca International Film Festival in upstate New York have released promotional artwork from comic and video game industry veteran Steve Ellis (The Only Living Boy, Green Lantern Corps). Now in its fourth year, Iifff celebrates the weird and the wild in International cinema. The annual program includes a competition of genre films from around the world as well as a retrospective showcase of cult classics and genre heavyweights. The art from Ellis, who has created the poster every year since the festival’s inception, is always one of the highlights of the buildup to the event in November.
This year’s Iifff retrospective promises to be the most skin-crawling yet with Organic Horror: Obsessions with Body Alterations. Ellis’s moody and evocative image appropriates iconography from several of the films that will be screened, including Georges Franju’s Eyes Without A Face, Andrzej Zulawski’s Possession,...

If you're a resident of the Los Angeles area and a horror fan, then no doubt you're familiar with the Hyaena Gallery located at 1928 Olive Avenue over in beautiful Burbank, California. In the last several years, the gallery along with it's stable of artists have made a name for themselves not only for their unique dark art, but for paying tribute to all the things we love about the horror genre. When they're not showcasing original pieces from their roster of artists, they sometimes focus on theme specific shows such as the 'Scream' exhibit and the 'Psycho' legacy shows they've hosted in prior years back. But right now, for the entire month of March, they're paying tribute to one of the horror director greats. Wes Craven.
"The Wes Craven tribute exhibit was actually something I've been wanting to do at the gallery for quite some time," explains Hyaena Gallery owner and curator Bill Shafer.

Today’s feature includes details on a Wes Craven art exhibition, the first sighting of Megafoot, a 100 zombie films graphical print, first photos from Australian Horror film, Barrow, an interview with actor, writer, and filmmaker Sean Stone, and much more:
The Horror Legacy of Wes Craven Exhibit Details: “Wes Craven has been feeding our collective horror consciousness since 1972, when his first feature, “The Last House on the Left,” debuted. That film was gritty, raw and terrifying, it still causes a guttural reaction some 40 years later. In his career, Wes has created some of the most memorable moments in horror cinema, from the torture scene in “The Serpent and the Rainbow,” to the Johnny Depp’s explosive scene in “A Nightmare on Elm Street,” to the first glimpse of Michael Berryman’s savagery in “The Hills Have Eyes.

In a smorgasbord of supernatural awesomeness, premiere comics publisher Idw is offering three #1 ways to jump into the horror comic book world this week, each bearing its own distinctive style and brand of spooks…
Monocyte #1
Panels? What panels? menton3 and Kasra Ghanbari’s Monocyte #1 revokes comic tradition and pans its way across the page like a dystopian children’s picture book—art, art, and more art all around, accompanied by relatively short (if convoluted) spots of language.
This language, if scattered, effectively establishes its futuristic world in a dichotomy of immortals—the ‘olignostics’ and the ‘antedeluvians’. In fact, I’d say that the most fascinating bits of the whole book are the two pages of history outlining the historical rise of both species. Since the current story takes place at the pinnacle of their long war (the ‘monocyte’ character, or ‘one-eyed’, is introduced as a kind of bony, alien messiah...

For writer/director Guillermo del Toro, one of the priorities in creating the world of Hellboy 2 was to populate it with creatures unlike anything seen before in other genre films. Nowhere is that principle more evident than the briefly-glimpsed character of the Chamberlain, created by Spectral Motion surrealist artist/designer Chet Zar. .Guillermo originally gave us some of the parameters,. Zar said, .like he wanted a mechanical mask that was glued around the actor.s own mouth so the actor could use his mouth, but he wanted the rest to be mechanical, everything except the mouth basically, so I just went from there."...
