It is the first film dealing with a fictitious hero, .Jack. taken from the mystery thriller novel .A Very Private Gentleman. by martin Booth. Producers Anne Carey, Ann Wingate and Jill Green were all closing in on the rights to the book over the last decade. They agreed to play nice and cooperate on the film and the result is an outstanding rendition of a great yarn. To describe George Clooney as fantastic would come as no surprise to his fans. To...

HollywoodNews.com: Despite his good looks and accessible leading man aura, George Clooney’s canon is comprised of social outsiders and in certain cases, as in his latest hypnotic thriller “The American” — nomads.
And to Clooney’s credit as an actor, he doesn’t get bogged down by the Hollywood system whereby his credits live and die by the strength of their box office openings. Clooney is allowed to stretch as a thespian and stretch he does in Anton Corbijn’s razor-sharp thriller about a Yank assassin who hides from Swedish killers in the medieval hilltop towns of Abruzzo, Italy. Filling the screen with his steely, pensive, puppy-dog looks, Clooney’s Jack — who goes by two aliases, Edward to his Italian g.f. and “Mr. Butterfly” to everyone else — is a man of few words; his small talk literally rivaling that of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s cyborg in “Terminator 2: Judgement Day.

Oscar-nominated actress Janet McTeer has been tapped to star opposite Brendan Gleeson in Churchill at War, HBO Films/BBC Films' follow-up to The Gathering Storm, their much-heralded biopic of Winston Churchill.
Churchill, from Scott Free Prods. and Rainmark Films, picks up where Storm left off and explores how the traits that made Churchill (Gleeson) a great wartime leader during World War II were the same ones that resulted in his ouster within weeks of the war's end. Like Storm, Churchill will provide an intimate look into Churchill's marriage with wife Clemmie (McTeer). In Storm, the role of Clemmie Churchill was played by Vanessa Redgrave.
Thaddeus O'Sullivan is directing Churchill from a script by Hugh Whitemore.
Ridley Scott, Tony Scott and Julie Payne executive produce, while Frank Doelger, Tracey Scoffield and Ann Wingate serve as producers.
McTeer earned a best actress Oscar nomination for her role in 1999's Tumbleweeds. She also is appearing in HBO Films' upcoming As You Like It, Kenneth Branagh's adaptation of the Shakespeare play that debuts in August, and HBO's five-part miniseries Five Days, which premieres in October.
