Roger Horchow, a Cincinnati-born entrepreneur who parlayed a luxury mail-order fortune into a Tony Award-winning streak as a producer on Broadway, died Saturday in Dallas of cancer. He was 91.
The founder in 1971 of he Horchow Collection luxury mail-order catalog, Horchow sold the company to Neiman Marcus in 1988, and by 1992 had won his first Tony Award as producer of Crazy For You, a “new” George Gershwin musical inspired by 1930’s Girl Crazy. Directed by Mike Ockrent and choreographed by Ockrent’s future wife Susan Stroman, Crazy For You was a smash, garnering awards and audiences enthralled by its classic Gershwin score and refreshingly contemporary style.
Six years later Horchow and co-producer Roger Berlind mounted a revival of Cole Porter’s Kiss Me, Kate, starring Marin Mazzie, Brian Stokes Mitchell and Michael Berresse. It, too, was a hit, winning the Tony for Best Musical Revival.

New York -- Jane Lynch has something to be gleeful about – she's about to make her Broadway debut.
The "Glee" star said Wednesday she'll be replacing Tony Award-winning actress Katie Finneran as the evil orphanage matron Miss Hannigan in the current revival of "Annie."
"I'm so thrilled I can't see straight," the actress said by phone from her home in Los Angeles. "It's a preposterous fantasy come true."
Lynch, a veteran of Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre Company, will play Miss Hannigan for eight weeks, from May 16 through July 14. Finneran will depart to film a new NBC comedy series with Michael J. Fox.
"It's a real joy for me to step into her shoes, which are large and scare the hell out of me," said Lynch. "But it's good to be scared. It's good to jump off a cliff."
Lynch will star opposite Lilla Crawford in the title role and Anthony Warlow as Daddy Warbucks.

A mark of a true hit is even if you have not seen it, you know it. The signature songs, the story, the look.
"Annie," at Broadway's Palace Theatre, is in that rarified genre. And there is good reason.
The musical is tremendous fun.
It is also a perfect introduction to Broadway, and it was clear from the reactions of some of the younger members of the audience that a lifetime of going to the theater was starting with this show.
As one of the few theater hounds who had not seen a previous version -- this is the second revival since the 1977 hit -- I can't compare to it anything. And shouldn't. What is on stage is what is important.
Lilla Crawford (Broadway's "Billy Elliot," TV's "Nickelodeon's Kids' Choice Awards") is winning in the title role. Anthony Warlow, in his Broadway debut, is excellent as Oliver Warbucks. But the show belongs to Katie Finneran,...

Warlow’s more than familiar with the famously cue-balled role: he’s currently playing Warbucks in a regional production in Melbourne, and his take on classic Warbucks songs like “NYC” and “I Don’t Need Anything But You” can be heard on the Aussie cast recording released earlier this year.

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera is one of the most loved and memorable musicals of the theatre. In October 2011, the 1986 musical celebrated its 25th anniversary by staging a show at London’s Royal Albert Hall. The anniversary production was filmed so that this once-in-a-lifetime performance could join the rising number of theatre performances coming home to Blu-ray. While the complex set changes and some of the more dramatic theatre effects are marginalized due to the location and filming concerns, the overall production stays in tact. It’s a mesmerizing display of theatre talent, complete with a reunion performance. There are a handful of moments, however, that will make die-hard theatre fans wince – as I did when I saw them use Led screens. I still thoroughly enjoyed the performance what it was, a chance to see Phantom performed once again at a fraction of the cost of seeing it on Broadway.

Australian actor Anthony Warlow has vowed to overcome the pain of a torn calf muscle to perform in the premiere of a Doctor Zhivago production in Sydney on Saturday night.
The star, who plays the lead character in the drama, injured his leg during rehearsals for the show earlier this month, forcing the cancellation of the first-night preview.
A stand-in was used for the remaining preview shows while Warlow regained full use of his calf muscles.
He's since modified his moves for the production - and the actor is determined to take to the stage for Saturday's premiere.
Warlow tells the Aap, "I'm surprised by my rate of recovery actually because doctors predicted the injury would take six weeks to properly heal. I'll be up and running, as it were, I won't be jumping around but the voice is fine which is the main thing."...
