After a premiere at the SXSW Film Festival last month, Ned Benson’s romantic drama The Greatest Hits is making its way to streaming on Hulu. The film, a love story with a unique sci-fi twist, is a crowd-pleasing charmer, and much of that is thanks to its stars, Lucy Boynton (Bohemian Rhapsody) and Justin H. Min (The Umbrella Academy).
We at FandomWire had the opportunity to speak with Boynton and Min about their roles in the film before its release. Keep reading to find out what they had to say.

Ned Benson’s sophomore feature, The Greatest Hits, is a romantic drama following a young woman who travels back in time anytime she hears a song to the last time and place she heard it with her late boyfriend. It’s a charming film with an incredible soundtrack that will delight any musicophile, not that you would expect any less.
We at FandomWire spoke with Benson and the film’s composer, Ryan Lott (frontman of Son Lux and Oscar nominee for his work on Everything Everywhere All at Once), about their work on the film. Keep reading to find out what they had to say.
The Greatest Hits Interview
In The Greatest Hits, more so than many other films driven by music, the soundtrack essentially functions as a character. We asked the team behind the film where the song choices came into play — whether it was during the writing process or later in production.

Writer/director Ned Benson captivated audiences at the Toronto International Film Festival, the Cannes Film Festival, and beyond in 2014 with his astute, intimate look at a relationship torn apart by tragedy. Conceived and shot as two films simultaneously, The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Him and The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Her were later edited into a single film; Benson’s The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Them, which premiered at Cannes and opened in the U.S. in September of that year, with Him and Her later releasing together as a double feature the following month. The romance genre is rare in that even the most conventional films can land extremely well. Somewhat fittingly titled, The Greatest Hits feels like an amalgamation of all the familiar beats of the romance genre. Nevertheless, writer-director Ned Benson and his cast infuse the movie with so much charm and humanity that the result is something incredibly charming and very special.
In the film, Lucy Boynton plays a woman with a mysterious affliction: every time she hears a certain song, she is literally transported back in time to the last time she heard it with her late boyfriend. It’s a high-concept blend of sci-fi and romance, and while it goes through a lot of conventional motions, it’s consistently lovable.
The characters’ arcs play out in pretty much the exact way you would expect. The protagonist has to learn to love again after being hurt by tragedy, and she finds a handsome,...

Everyone has certain notable songs in their lives that can transport you back to some sacred memories that you have kept with you. What if those songs could actually take you back in time to those memories? That’s the fresh new twist on the time travel concept in the new trailer for The Greatest Hits. Ned Benson, writer and director of The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby trilogy, once again pulls double duty for this film which stars Lucy Boynton, Justin H. Min and the new Kal-El of James Gunn’s Superman, David Corenswet.
The official plot synopsis from Searchlight Pictures reads,
“What if a single song, an unmistakable melody, an unforgettable sound – could take you back in time, literally? Harriet (Lucy Boynton) finds music imitating life when she discovers beloved songs shared with her former boyfriend can take her back to the scene of the moment, giving her a second chance to twist fate.

The Oscars 2023 has an impressive list of 10 Best Picture nominees. This year’s group ranges from big blockbusters, such as Avatar: The Way of Water, to a foreign war drama with All Quiet on the Western Front. Here’s a ranking of the Best Picture nominees ranked from worst to best.
10. ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ Sigourney Weaver as Kiri | 20th Century Studios
James Cameron’s long-awaited Avatar: The Way of Water brings audiences back to the luscious world of Pandora. It’s a technical marvel, employing visual and auditory crafts to perfection. Cameron improves upon the first Avatar, but it misses out on a much-needed emotional impact. Perhaps one of the planned sequels will find a better balance and a more compelling story that could push it over the edge.
9. ‘Elvis’ Austin Butler as Elvis Presley | Warner Bros. Pictures

“Top Gun: Maverick” has been named best picture by the National Board of Review, the organization announced Thursday.
The big acting winners included Colin Farrell taking the best actor prize for “The Banshees of Inisherin” after coming off the New York Film Critics Circle win earlier this month. Two NBR winners in the last 12 years have translated to Oscar winners — Casey Affleck for “Manchester by the Sea” (2016) and Will Smith for “King Richard” (2021). For winners becoming eventual nominees, only three men were snubbed by the Academy in the end — Oscar Isaac for “A Most Violent Year” (2014), Tom Hanks for “The Post” (2017) and Adam Sandler for “Uncut Gems” (2019).
Michelle Yeoh gets a huge boost after being announced as Madame Morrible in the upcoming “Wicked” movies and featured on Variety’s Actors on Actors. She can now add NBR best actress winner to her golden day for her turn as laundromat owner...

Going to a movie theater this holiday season might be out of the question for most Americans, but fortunately you don’t have to leave the house to see some of the biggest Christmas movie releases.

Greta Gerwig remembers the "Eureka!" moment.
The 34-year-old actor, an indie-cinema fixture and a co-writer for films like Frances Ha and Mistress America, had been struggling with a screenplay she'd been working on for a while, a story about a young woman coming of age in Northern California. For some reason, she "felt I kept hitting some sort of wall with the movie that I couldn't break through." Then, out of the blue, two lines of dialogue popped into her head.

Kate Winslet is no stranger to taking on roles that require her to work in strenuous conditions.
She proved she could stay afloat while filming Titanic, which required spending hours at a time in a water tank and for her next film, The Mountain Between Us she had to be helicoptered to a peak in the Canadian Rockies every day to play a plane-crash survivor trying to stay alive in the snowing Utah wilderness.

A delightful new trailer for the upcoming comedy Wish I Was Here has come online.
Director Zach Braff’s follow-up to his indie breakout hit Garden State is the story of a thirtysomething man who finds himself at major crossroads, which forces him to examine his life, his career, and his family.
The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January. The Hollywood Reporter‘s Boyd van Hoeij called it, “A more mature work from actor-director-producer Zach Braff that feels like a Garden State for grown-ups.
HitFix‘s Drew McWeeny wrote, “this is the film that he took to Kickstarter, even as people complained about the idea of a millionaire asking people for hand-outs. Beyond that, though, hating “Garden State” has become a cottage industry. The only thing Braff could possibly do to counter all of the naysayers would be to make a genuinely great movie…. which, thankfully, is exactly what he did.

On Thursday, Nebraska received six Oscar nominations including Best Cinematography. Up until the 30th Academy Awards (1958), Best Cinematography was divided into two categories – Color and Black & White. According to AMPAS, the last entirely black-and-white film to win Best Picture was The Artist (2011). Prior to that, The Apartment (1960) held this distinction; Schindler’s List (1993) had some color elements.
One of the first decisions director Alexander Payne took in making Nebraska was to shoot the film in black and white.
He knew it would be a risk, but it was central to his vision of the story. “Visual style was my window into the picture,” he notes.
“Black and white just felt like the right choice for this film, because that’s always how I read it and saw it,” explains Payne. “I’ve also always wanted to make a film in black and white. It’s such a beautiful format. And this modest,...

Oz domestic box office slightly below expectations -- even so, the fantasy adventure boasted one of the biggest March openings in film history Starring James Franco as the eventual The Wizard of Oz, the Sam Raimi-directed $200 million+-budgeted (some sources claim $215 million) Oz the Great and Powerful raked in $79.1 million at 3,912 Us and Canada theaters this past weekend as per weekend actuals found on the web site Box Office Mojo. That's by far the most impressive debut weekend this year to date, in addition to being one of the biggest March openings in history (see more details / comparisons below); even so, Oz fell short of the $80 million-$85 million figure some had been predicting after looking at Friday and late Thursday estimates of $24.1m. The film's distributor, Walt Disney Studios, claimed it expected at most $74 million -- clearly a much too low prediction which meant that Oz was bound to "overperform.

Jessica Chastain, Brad Pitt, The Tree of Life Jessica Chastain (instead of Diane Kruger, Isla Fisher, Gemma Arterton) to play a scientist as capable as Robert Downey Jr’s Tony Stark in Shane Black’s Iron Man 3? That’s a possibility, as per Deadline.com. Perhaps that is why Time magazine listed Chastain among its Most Influential People of the year. Or perhaps not. But one of the most sought-after actresses in Hollywood Chastain surely is. Last year, she had roles in about 200 movies, among them Tate Taylor’s The Help (which earned her a Best Supporting Actress nomination); The Debt, co-starring Helen Mirren and Sam Worthington; Terrence Malick’s Palme d’Or winner The Tree of Life, with Brad Pitt and Sean Penn; Coriolanus, with actor-director Ralph Fiennes and Gerard Butler; and Jeff Nichols‘ Take Shelter, with Michael Shannon. Chastain is one of the cast members of Kathryn Bigelow...

Beau Bridges, George Clooney in Alexander Payne's The Descendants The Descendants' writer-director Alexander Payne, co-screenwriters Nat Faxon and Jim Rash, and novelist Kaui Hart Hemmings were the winners of the 2012 USC Scripter Award, which honors the year's best adapted screenplay based on a novel (and the novel's author) according to a panel of judges. Earlier this evening, The Descendants also won the Writers Guild Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. The Descendants' competitors were Moneyball, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, A Dangerous Method, and Jane Eyre. Neither A Dangerous Method nor Jane Eyre were shortlisted for the Best Adapted Screenplay Academy Award. In their place, the Academy's Screenwriters Branch chose Hugo and The Ides of March. The USC Scripter Award ceremony was held this past Saturday at the Edward L. Doheny Jr. Memorial Library on the USC Campus in downtown Los Angeles. Also at the ceremony, Paul Haggis, among...

George Clooney, Shailene Woodley, The Descendants The Descendants (Kevin Tent) and The Artist (Anne-Sophie Bion, Michel Hazanavicius) were the two live-action narrative features to win the 2012 American Cinema Editor Awards at a ceremony held this evening at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills. That shows Ace Award voters opted for more subdued film editing jobs this year: The Descendants' competitors, for instance, included David Fincher's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Steven Spielberg's War Horse, and Martin Scorsese's Hugo; one of The Artist's competitors was Paul Feig's hectic comedy Bridesmaids. [Full list of Ace Eddie Award winners/nominations.] Or perhaps Ace voters just wanted to reward someone new. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo's Angus Wall and Kirk Baxter were last year's winner for Fincher's The Social Network. Hugo's Thelma Schoonmaker has already won four Ace Awards — aka Eddies — each for a Martin Scorsese-directed film: Raging Bull...

Brad Pitt, Jessica Chastain in Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life Following numerous Us-based critics' citations, Emmanuel Lubezki's work on Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life has earned him the American Society of Cinematographers' Award at the Asc's 26th annual awards. The ceremony was held Sunday night at the Hollywood and Highland Grand Ballroom in Los Angeles. An Oscar nominee for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Cinematography, The Tree of Life is a complex family drama starring Brad Pitt, Sean Penn, and Jessica Chastain. The film marked the second time the Mexican-born Lubezki took home the Asc Award; he had previously won for Alfonso Cuarón's Children of Men (2006). An earlier Asc nomination for Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow (1999) preceded Lubezki two victories. Additionally, Lubezki has been nominated for five Academy Awards. Besides his three Asc movies, he was also shortlisted for Cuarón's A Little Princess (1995) and Malick's The New World.

2012 Oscar Predictions Best Actress: Tilda Swinton, Glenn Close. [Photo: George Clooney, Shailene Woodley in The Descendants.] Like in the Best Actress 2012 Academy Award race, there are three shoo-ins for the Best Actor shortlist: George Clooney, Jean Dujardin, and Brad Pitt. Clooney will be in the running for Alexander Payne's The Descendants, Dujardin for Michel Hazanavicius' The Artist, and Pitt for Bennett Miller's Moneyball. Clooney has already won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his sleazy U.S. spy/weapons dealer in Stephen Gaghan's Syriana (2005). In the acting categories, he was also nominated as Best Actor for Tony Gilroy's Michael Clayton (2007) and Jason Reitman's Up in the Air (2009). This year, Clooney's own Golden Globe-nominated political drama The Ides of March serves as further evidence of the actor-director's "worthiness." (Clooney was a Best Director Oscar nominee for the 2005 black-and-white drama Good Night, and Good Luck, which also earned David Strathairn a Best Actor nod.

Like just about every Us-based critics group — year in, year out — the Online Film Critics Society has placed its focus on English-language productions this awards season. True, critics' fave The Artist, a French-made production, is in the running in several categories, including Best Film, but Michel Hazanavicius' comedy-drama is a) silent (which makes it seem less "foreign") b) set in Hollywood c) features several American/British actors in supporting roles. In any case, Terrence Malick's family drama The Tree of Life, starring Brad Pitt, Sean Penn, and Jessica Chastain, topped the Online Critics list of nominees, with a total of seven nods. Those include Best Film, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay (Malick), and supporting nominations for Pitt and Chastain (photo, with Laramie Eppler and Tye Sheridan).
