Coming off a well-deserved first-ever Oscar nomination, Bill Nighy has a new worthwhile movie to add to his highly impressive filmography. The Beautiful Game is, on its surface, another well-worn story of a ragtag team of misfits coming together for validation not just in their football (i.e. soccer) skills but, more importantly, in their lives. And even though we have seen countless underdog stories like this one set on a playing field, we actually haven’t seen one quite like this in terms of the welcome spotlight it puts on the homeless population among us. The timing is particularly pertinent as many major cities seem to a war going on with the homeless, a complete lack of empathy toward what gets a person to this point in life and a solution for lifting them out of it.
The Beautiful Game is not focused on the politics of their lot in life,...

Horrors on the high sea are a common enough theme, from Ghost Ship and Deathship to The Haunting of the Mary Celeste and Titanic 666 there are plenty of them. The most recent of these, The Haunting of the Queen Mary opens on Halloween Eve,1938 when the ship’s festivities are replaced with terror as an axe-wielding man hacks his way through its corridors.
The plot then circles back a few hours to show Gwen and David Ratch sneaking into an exclusive party in an attempt to get their daughter Jackie introduced to some Hollywood stars who they hope can help her become the next Shirley Temple.

The retired Rms Queen Mary docked in Long Beach, California is considered one of the most haunted locations in the world — which only somewhat shines through in Gary Shore’s Haunting of the Queen Mary. Any wishes to relive Dark Castle Entertainment levels of production design in Ghost Ship won’t be fulfilled, but that said, Haunting of the Queen Mary is more successful than its brushed-under-the-rug release undersells. Shore and co-writer Tom Vaughan channel the Queen Mary’s grave history for a supernatural infestation that spans decades, complete with atmospheric haunts akin to what’s accomplished in remakes of Thir13en Ghosts or House on Haunted Hill. Proper spookiness prevails, even though the over two-hour length gunks up the film’s gears with subplots that slow momentum.
Alice Eve stars as Anne Calder, who pitches Queen Mary’s Captain Bittner (Dorian Lough) on a virtual 3D tour experience to resurrect the ship’s reputation.

Plot: Stories playing out in modern day and on Halloween night 1938 show how the haunting of the Queen Mary ocean liner has a devastating effect on two different families.
Review: The Rms Queen Mary is a ship with a fascinating history. It was built in the 1930s to provide weekly express service between England and the United States – and for more than a decade it held the Blue Riband for being the fastest passenger liner on the sea. During World War II, it became a troopship that carried Allied soldiers. When the war ended, it went back to carrying civilian passengers until it was retired in 1967 and docked in Long Beach, California. For more than fifty years, it has sat in Long Beach, a tourist attraction. As you would expect from something with such an incredible history, the ship is believed to be haunted. Sometimes the reasons given for this haunting are questionable,...

Alice Eve battles paranormal spirits in the latest trailer for Haunting of the Queen Mary, a supernatural horror mystery that has two families violently entangled when sailing aboard the real-life ocean liner on Halloween night in 1938 and the present day.
As Erin, played by Eve, and husband Patrick (Joel Fry) board the infamous ship with their young son Lukas, played by Lenny Rush, their voyage comes to resemble, in mystery and violence, the experience of another family that sailed aboard the namesake ship in 1938.
As Erin begins to see the haunted ghosts the ocean liner holds from its dark past, she and her husband realize there’s only one way out for them — into the ship’s depths where violent secrets are revealed.

One of the downsides to living in the new Golden Age of Television is that some shows, decent in their own right, will inevitably suffer in comparison to the best of the best.
I fear that may be the fate of Victoria, which has its U.S. premiere later tonight. The show presents inevitable comparisons to Netflix’s The Crown in its tale of one of England’s most famous queens, at times rising to the challenge of its competitor, and at other times, falling a bit short.
The series opens at the very beginning of Victoria’s famous reign. King William is dead and his niece, Alexandrina Victoria (Jenna Coleman), a girl of eighteen, will ascend to the throne. She’s lived a sheltered and inexperienced life at Kensington, reared under the strict oversight of her mother, the Duchess of Kent (Catherine Flemming...

★☆☆☆☆The warning signs are there even before the opening credits roll. Lessons in Love (2014) - the UK title of Tom Vaughan's latest - went through two prior iterations for its appearance in Canadian (How To Make Love Like An Englishman) and Us (Some Kind of Beautiful) cinemas. Unfortunately, much like giving someone the same present for Christmas, Easter and their birthday, no matter how this rom-com is gift wrapped the resultant 99 minutes of your life will feel as hollow and wasted as receiving an empty box.

The rumours were true. Jenna Coleman will play the young Queen Victoria in ITV's new drama Victoria.
The actress today (September 18) confirmed that she will leave Doctor Who during its current ninth series. She has played The Doctor's companion Clara Oswald since 2012.
ITV's eight-part royal series follows the early life of the monarch, from her ascension to the throne to her marriage to Prince Albert.

"She is a vivid, strong, inspirational and utterly fascinating woman in British history and I can't wait to tell her story."
Victoria kicks off with a 90-minute episode directed by Tom Vaughan and is followed by seven one-hour episodes.
It is produced by Paul Frift and more names will be added to the cast shortly. It is due to start filming in the north of England next month.

Some Kind of Nonsense: Vaughan’s Unintentional Antithesis of the RomCom
Not long into Some Kind of Beautiful, the new film from director Tom Vaughan, a man best known for his 2008 Ashton Kutcher/Cameron Diaz film What Happens in Vegas, it becomes achingly clear that someone, somewhere pitched this film with intentions of crafting a romantic comedy. However, the film wasn’t painted in shades of either, and has the opposite effect of deadening emotional receptors. Staunchly filled with resolutely sturdy clichés in the hoary tradition of the aging lothario coming to uncertain terms with his playboy instinct and need for companionship, Vaughan and first time screenwriter Matthew Newman glide through this set-up with an icy dazedness, as if daring us to wade through its fretful yet uneventful schemes to an outcome prophesized from the moment its three leads converge.

"My life had completely changed - I had a wife, a baby, and a pretty good view. And then, everything went pear-shaped." A trailer has arrived for the romantic comedy How to Make Love Like an Englishman, starring Pierce Brosnan as "that" Englishman. Yep, he's still playing the super sexy guy. This film actually seems like the total opposite of Judd Apatow's Trainwreck - a still-a-bachelor, older studly guy must finally settle down when he has a baby with Jessica Alba, but then everything goes "pear-shaped" as he says. Plus - toss Salma Hayek in the mix. Warning - this is laugh-out-loud cheesy, especially the final line. Have fun! Here's the new trailer for Tom Vaughan's How to Make Love Like an Englishman, found on YouTube: A drama about a Cambridge poetry professor who begins to re-evaluate his life of Byronic excess. Following on from their upcoming time travel thriller "Predestination," Australian filmmakers Michael and Peter Spierig have set up their next project - the period supernatural thriller "Winchester" at Hammer Films.
The story follows Sarah Winchester, the widow of famed gun magnate William Wirt Winchester. After the sudden deaths of her husband and child, Sarah began to believe she was cursed by the family legacy.
She was instructed by a spiritualist medium to begin constructing a Gothic mansion to appease the spirits. The job began in 1884 and didn't stop until her death on September 5th 1922.
Today the still standing house consists of approximately 160 rooms, including doors and stairways that lead nowhere.
The Spierigs will rewrite Tom Vaughan's earlier draft and will film the project on location at the house itself in San Jose, the first movie to ever film inside there.
