Collective Soul have offered up the lead single “Mother’s Love” from their upcoming double album Here to Eternity (out May 17th).
The track falls on the grungier side of Collective Soul’s musical spectrum. Centered around a thick blues guitar lick, the song also sports the band’s signature pop hooks and big harmonies — an apt choice for a first single, as it provides a complete cross-section of Collective Soul’s long-established style. The recording also touts a notable guest appearance from Paul McCartney guitarist Brian Ray on slide guitar.

As for the upcoming double LP, Here to Eternity was recorded and self-produced with co-producer Shawn Grove at Elvis Presley’s estate in Palm Springs, California, making Collective Soul the only other artist to ever record at the historical landmark.

Drew Barrymore may be the best dressed person to ride the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile!
The talk show host was red carpet ready alongside her The Drew Barrymore Show correspondent Ross Mathews while arriving for work on Tuesday morning (February 20) in New York City.
Drew and Ross stepped off the Wienermobile and walked a red carpet into the studio.
Oscar Mayer announced in January 2024 that the company is looking for “hotdoggers,” people who get the yearlong opportunity to drive the Wienermobile around the country. The job pays $35,600 for the year and employees typically visit 40 cities to host popup events, logging 20,000 miles of travel.
“The title of a Hotdogger is a rare and coveted position unique to those seeking adventure and a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” Oscar Mayer spokesperson Ed Roland said in press release. “Statistically speaking, more people have visited space than driven the Wienermobile! Upon hearing that The Voice‘s Top 11 would be performing songs suggested by viewers, I thought, “Hey, at least we can’t do any worse than Miley Cyrus assigning ‘Delta Dawn’ to Ashland Craft or Adam Levine sticking Adam Cunningham with ‘Against All Odds.'” And who among us hasn’t said to themselves, “No, no, no, don’t give so-and-so that song, give them this song!” then added for emphasis, “Jeez, why would you be so cruel to a member of your own team, Coach?!?” Personally, I wanted to hear Chloe Kohanski try something from the Sia catalog, Noah Mac rock Franz Ferdinand,...

VH1’s Hindsight, the best show you're not watching, ends its ‘90s journey – and we’ve got scoop on the life-altering season ender!
“The finale finds a lot of the characters at a crossroads,” creator Emily Fox tells ETonline. “It doesn’t wrap it all up and tie it in a bow. A lot of new questions are asked – some are answered, but not all.”
Watch: 'Hindsight' Recreates John Cusack's Iconic 'Say Anything' Scene!
Let’s recap the season in a nutshell, shall we? After Becca (Laura Ramsey) found herself back in 1995, rocking plaid button-ups and denim cut-offs like nobody’s business, she vowed to correct her past mistakes -- none as big as mending her fractured friendship with Lolly (Sarah Goldberg). But she as we approach the finale, their bond is tested when Kevin (Steve Talley) -- Lolly’s unrequited love -- makes a move for Becca, threatening their friendship...

“He was my boyfriend, I loved him and he died.” That was Elena’s mantra on Thursday’s Vampire Diaries as the heartbroken doppelgänger struggled to erase the love she felt for Damon. But was her major purge a success?

We’ve got questions, and you’ve (maybe) got answers! With another week of TV gone by, we’re lobbing queries left and right about shows including Once Upon a Time, Castle, Bones and The Vampire Diaries!

I saw the Season 6 premiere of "The Vampire Diaries" last week and you've perhaps already seen my post with a handful of teases courtesy of showrunner Caroline Dries, who did a Q&A with a few reporters afterwards. At the time, I held off on any spoilers beyond mentioning that just about everybody was handling the aftermath of last season's finale with varying degrees of sadness, self-hatred and mourning. Now maybe I can talk a bit more about the premiere, which I thought was more mired in the aftermath of the Season 5 finale than progressing the narrative in ways I wanted to see in upcoming episodes. I don't have time for a full review or recap, but after the break, I've got a handful of thoughts, all involving spoilers, obviously... *** So Bonnie & Damon are trapped in 1994? You may see the warm lighting and comfortable looking cabin and assume that Bonnie...

Warning: The following contains spoilers from Thursday’s season premiere of The Vampire Diaries.
The Vampire Diaries returned for Season 6 on Thursday night, but not all of its players were back to their old selves.
Elena, for one, was suppressing her grief by taking witchy drugs to “see” Damon and feeding on humans on the outskirts of Mystic Falls — not that it was helping. To truly make the pain go away, she asked Alaric for a drastic favor.
Then there’s Stefan, who was off living a new life with a new girl, while Damon and Bonnie were bonding… somewhere.

With practically every month now marking the 20th anniversary of yet another “classic” alternative era album -- "In Utero" is next up to bat -- '90s nostalgia is, shall we say, in bloom.
But not every band from back then were iconic rule breakers a la Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins or Blur. And the decade’s lesser lights are now rearing their frosted-tipped heads for one more kick at the can, too.
This summer the Goo Goo Dolls and Matchbox 20 hit the road as part of a joint summer tour. So has Under the Sun, a summer-long, alt-rock lite package tour featuring Sugar Ray, Smash Mouth, Gin Blossoms, Vertical Horizon and Fastball (the lineup is a holdover from the failed Mark McGrath and Friends Cruise). These bands, radio and sales heavies from the mid-to late-’90s, join a wave of acts like Soundgarden, Blink-182, The Breeders and No Doubt...

Varsity Blues is truly of its time. When the film was released in 1999, star James Van Der Beek was riding high on his fame from popular teen soap Dawson's Creek. This was the first movie produced by MTV Films, and the soundtrack includes such late '90s hits as Collective Soul's "Run" and the Foo Fighters' "My Hero." Buzz Bissinger's influential book Friday Night Lights: A Town, A Team, and a Dream had been published nine years previous, but had yet to be dramatized for either the big or small screen.
Filmed in Austin -- as well as Georgetown, Elgin and Taylor -- Varsity Blues follows Mox (Van Der Beek), a high school senior in fictional small-town West Canaan, Texas. He dates his friend's younger sister, Julie (Amy Smart), who works at the Top Notch. He dreams of going to Brown University, and only plays football because his dad makes him.

While Miley Cyrus isn't the first person to come to mind when making a wishlist of artists to cover Bob Dylan songs, we have to admit -- we're really looking forward to this album.
Miley and a host of her contemporaries have joined forces to pay tribute to both Bob Dylan and Amnesty International with a new cover album. The record, titled "Chimes of Freedom," features a huge variety of artists -- from Pete Seeger to Ke$ha.
"Glee" star Darren Criss even makes a contribution to the four-disc compilation, covering New Morning with his brother, Chuck Criss, and his band the Freelance Whales. The jam-packed album, which "salutes Amnesty International's 50th anniversary and life-saving human rights work," is set for a January 24 release. Check out the list of songs and artists below to see which classic your favorite singer will be covering.

Quality time between Megan and her mom (Joanna Cassidy) is interrupted by another 'Db' dead body.
"You care more about the dead, because they can't talk back."
"Believe it or not, they have something to say."
Joe Salerno, 18-year veteran homicide detective with Philadelphia Police has seemingly been killed in a hit and run scenario. To make matters worst, he was Detective Sam Baker's friend. Megan tells her and Bud that he was already dead when the car hit him. He was killed then thrown over a bridge.
Due to the high profile case, the Chief is coming down hard on Dr. Hunt.
Talking with the widow, Sam and Megan learned that Joe had been moody and distant with his family and stopped making origami for his young daughter. And Bud found out that Joe was obsessed with solving the death of a teenage lacrosse player.

The soundtracks to "Scream" and "Scream 2" were diverse mishmashes of modern rock, hip-hop, soul and electronic, placing bands like Sugar Ray and Collective Soul alongside D'Angelo and Master P.
By the time we got to 2000's "Scream 3," cock rock was in full bloom, with the soundtrack reading like a who's who of early-2000s, post-grunge adolescent angst and rage (Godsmack! Sevendust! Staind!). Mom and dad may not have understood you, but that soundtrack sure did.
For "Scream 4," we get a combination of high-energy bar rock and commercially-minded electro-pop tailor-made for teenagers of both genders. The raucous bar-friendly rock of The Novocaines ("Cup of Coffee") and Locksley ("On Fire") recall The Caesars, The Datsuns and countless other "The" groups that appropriated and, in some cases, updated the Nuggets box set for a new generation. It's not hard to picture these tracks alongside someone running, or getting murdered or running to avoid getting murdered.

The Film:
All highly successful horror films deserve a sequel or five, but 1997′s Scream 2 is just as good, if not better than its predecessor. It’s simply the Hollywood case of “more”, and that’s what we get out of Scream 2. More kills. More twists. More, more, more. And it works. Proving that you can stretch the satirical nature of the franchise into “more”, Kevin Williamson stabs (ahem) the notion of sequels and the rules, while being self-referential about the popularity of the budding franchise.
While the film came out theatrically in December 1997, I waited for the film to hit VHS (ahaha) some six months later. While waiting (and we didn’t have the internet to spoil the revelations), my sister and I rocked the soundtrack, which featured some of the series’ best soundtrack tracks. Kottonmouth Kingz’ Suburban Life; She’s Always in My Hair by D’Angelo; songs by Collective Soul,...

Back in 1993, a band from Georgia named after a concept invented by Ayn Rand scored a surprise local hit when an Atlanta radio station began repeatedly blasting a song called "Shine." The success of that song lead to a record deal for Collective Soul, who released their debut album Hints, Allegations and Things Left Unsaid the following year. In one fell swoop, Collective Soul established themselves as major players on the alternative rock scene, and on this day in 1997 they continued their streak of success when they released their third album Disciplined Breakdown.
The creation of Disciplined Breakdown should have been something of a victory lap for the band, who had scored their greatest success with 1995's self-titled album (which contained the huge hits "December," "Gel" and "The World I Know"), but the album was created under quite a bit of duress. Cook's cover of the 1985 hit, best known as the theme to the John Hughes classic "The Breakfast Club," is set to hit iTunes and other digital outlets on March 8th.
Fans who pre-order Cook's upcoming second album on his official website can already hear the song in its entirety. Cook's album, produced by Matt Serletic (Matchbox Twenty, Collective Soul), is set to hit stores in May.

This is The week to invest in a PS3 just so you can buy and download the fantastic Dead Nation exclusively on the Playstation Network. Trust us - it will be worth your while.
If you are not a gamer, this week's horror offerings are limited to some fangless bites with the latest installment of Twilight, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (and all its related merchandise), staking (ha!) out a Saturday release all by itself. There's also Vampires Suck, but the release party flash mob in Hollywood on November 30th sounds more interesting than the film itself.
Dead Nation (Video Game)
Available exclusively on the Playstation Network for $14.99, Dead Nation (Review) is said to be home to the "smartest zombies" to ever be placed in a video game, meaning that these baddies will perform surprise attacks, drop down on you from buildings, and even grab at you through fences. On top...

Eminem's new single "Not Afraid" is a fantastic return to form for Slim Shady, as it does little more than lay a beat down and let him spit crazy, passionate verses over it. The video, which premiered over the weekend, also taps into a visual place that Eminem has not tapped into in several years. The aggressive, serious nature of the song made him leave behind the wacky trappings of his funny videos and focus on intensity and visual poetry (the sort of thing he used to do with clips like "Stan" and "Lose Yourself"). "Not Afraid" casts Eminem first as a man wandering the streets and then as a Neo-like superhero looking for redemption.
But the whole thing starts on a rooftop in Newark, New Jersey, which brings to mind a number of other famous clips that heavily feature bands playing on the tops of buildings. "Not Afraid" immediately jumps onto this list.

Casey James took some bold chances on "American Idol" on Tuesday night. He was the only contestant to venture outside the Beatles catalog to choose a solo song by John Lennon, "Jealous Guy."
Gently picking out the melody on an acoustic guitar, James played a measured, emotional version of the song, accented by a mournful cello. Changing up and slowing down the arrangement, he gave it a bluesy feel, turning it into a Ben Harper-style lament.
The song was recorded for Lennon's 1971 Imagine album, the ex-Beatle's second studio effort after leaving the group and his most popular solo work. It was written while Lennon was still in the Beatles during a trip to India to visit the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and was demoed...

"American Idol" heads to Atlanta Wednesday (Jan. 13) for auditions, and we're hopeful for some good talent ... and a few characters.
After all, the Dirty South style of hip-hop emerged from there from hip-hop/R&B artists such as Outkast. Atl is also home to Ludacris, Usher, Jermaine Dupri, Ciara and Kanye West.
Other genres also thrive there, we have Hotlanta to thank for The Black Crowes, Collective Soul, the Indigo Girls and a slew of indie rock bands.
And let's not forget "Real Housewife" Kim Zolciak. Any guesses on how fast Kara DioGuardi would give that "Tardy for the Party" singer the boot?
We enjoyed last night's auditions, especially the 16-year-old Katie Stevens and Maddy Curtis, both of whom had nice, soulful voices. Let's see if Atlanta can add to the surprises.
What kind of talent do you think "Idol" will find in A-Town?

Originally released through New Ocean Media, Lynam's Tragic City Symphony hits retail again today via a reissue on Mascot/Megaforce.
The Birmingham, Alabama band's fourth album brings a southern flavor to the recent explosion of bands that are carrying the torch for pure rock n roll.
Kicking it off with "Is This A Heartbreak Or A Loaded Gun?", with breakdowns and gang vocals that recall Def Leppard with a hardcore tinge, the album seamlessly transitions into "Enemy" territory with a #2 that exemplifies why "more cowbell" can be a damn good thing when done right.
The band themselves confess that their sound could be described as if Foo Fighters, Weezer and Guns N Roses started a band together, and while those influences certainly can be heard within Tragic City, others surface as well. "Porn Star" carries a heavy Everclear influence, while "White Trash Superstar" brings a definite country vibe to the mix,...

Yesterday, we learned that the Twilight soundtrack's Collective Soul had Twilight and American Idol fans to thank for an increased (and younger) audience (see here). Now, it seems that Cs's fellow soundtrack-er rockers Mutemath are being accused of "go[ing] after the kids with a passion not seen since Pokemon." Says the Orlando Sentinel's Tod Caviness, If MuteMath aren't the new teenage swoon bait, it's not for lack of trying. Since their initial blip on the radar with the 2007 single "Typical," they've gone after the kids with a passion not seen since Pokemon – putting their songs up for sale on the Rock Band video game, debuting a single on the Twilight soundtrack, even reworking the Transformers theme.
