Last year, New Regency went into production on a horror thriller called Psycho Killer, based on a screenplay written by Se7en scribe Andrew Kevin Walker. Gavin Polone, producer of Zombieland and the Walker-scripted 8Mm, was at the helm of the film, with Georgina Campbell (Barbarian) and Logan Miller (Escape Room) in lead roles and 6’5″+ former professional wrestler James Preston Rogers in the title role. The film has since made its way through post-production, and FilmRatings.com reports that it has officially earned an R rating for strong bloody violence, strong
sexual content, graphic nudity, drug use and language. So this one is sounding quite promising.
Campbell is taking on the role of Jane Thorne, a police officer who makes it her mission to take down a serial killer referred to on the news as the ‘Satanic Slasher,’ following the murder of her state trooper husband.

New Regency is gearing up to go into production on a horror thriller called Psycho Killer, based on a screenplay written by Se7en scribe Andrew Kevin Walker… and if such a project sounds familiar to you, it may be because Psycho Killer has been making its way through development hell for nearly fifteen years. It first hit the news back in early 2009, when Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst was set to direct. Durst had moved on by late 2010, by which time Eli Roth was planning to produce it with Eric Newman, his co-producer on The Last Exorcism. They eventually moved on as well. Gavin Polone, producer of Zombieland and the Walker-scripted 8Mm, signed on to direct the film while Roth and Newman were involved and has held on to the helm ever since. And it looks like he’s going to see it all the way through production. Deadline...

The synopsis for Cold Storage is as follows: Several decades ago, a highly infectious, constantly mutating micro-organism — capable of extinction-level destruction — was contained in a military facility. In the present day, the military has sealed the facility’s lowest sublevel, selling the remaining space to a self-storage company. As temperatures rise underground, the micro-organism finds a way to escape — and if left to spread, it will soon uncontrollably multiply around the world. The fate of humanity now rests on a retired bioterror operative and two unlikely heroes employed in the facility, who are caught in a race against time to destroy the organism and save mankind.
But nine-time Emmy nominee Gavin Polone is producing, with Studiocanal fully financing, having launched worldwide sales at the 2022 Cannes Market. Those overseeing the project for Studiocanal include Chief Creative Officer of U.S. Operations Shana Eddy Grouf, EVP Global Production Ron Halpern, and VP International Production & Development, Aaron Ensweiler.
Campbell is coming off of a breakout performance alongside Bill Skarsgård and Justin Long in Zach Cregger’s critically acclaimed horror-thriller Barbarian, which grossed over 42M upon its release via 20th Century Studios in September. The actress first burst onto the scene with her BAFTA-winning performance in the BBC Three drama, Murdered by My Boyfriend, and has more recently appeared in series including Apple TV+’s Suspicion, as well as Prime Video’s The Pale Horse, HBO’s His Dark Materials, Syfy’s Krypton, BBC America’s Broadchurch and others.
Other past film credits for the actress include the horror-comedy All My Friends Hate Me, the thriller Wildcat and the Charlie Hunnam-led action adventure pic King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, from director Guy Ritchie. Further upcoming projects for the thesp include Teresa Sutherland’s psychological horror Lovely, Dark and Deep, as well as A Ciegas, the international spin-off to Netflix’s sci-fi horror pic Bird Box, starring Sandra Bullock, which was taken in by a worldwide audience of 45M+ in its first seven days on the platform.
Campbell is represented by UTA, the UK’s Independent Talent Group and Range Media Partners.

“It was like a palace of pitching. There’s never been any place like it.”
An agent friend was describing the sprawling and frenetic Netflix reception lobby, which was an almost weekly destination for him and clients. It was so packed with dealmakers that projects were often re-shaped and re-packaged even before the Netflix pitch took place.
Given news of 450 layoffs at the streamer, the pitching palace has become a cathedral of calm. With Netflix likely to lose 2 million global subscribers this quarter, its present priority is to trim costs while building an ad-supported tier to generate fresh revenue.
The behavior of Netflix employees has reflected this change. “I’m taking pitches for shows all morning, then checking out job possibilities in the afternoon,” reports one Netflix executive I’ve known for years. “If I hear one more person lecturing me about ‘resilience,’ I’ll deck him.”

Johnny Depp scored a clear and unexpected victory in court last week. His attorney, Ben Chew, implored the Virginia jury to restore his name, his reputation and his career, and the jury responded — finding that Depp’s ex-wife, Amber Heard, had defamed him when accusing him of domestic violence.
But while jury verdicts are binary — liable or not liable, guilty or not guilty — Hollywood does not work that way. Depp has suffered tremendous reputational damage, much of it self-inflicted, and still has a lot of work to do if he wants to revive his career.
“It’s not a light-switch,” says Howard Bragman, a crisis consultant to celebrity clients. “It’s a road back.”
In Depp’s favor, the trial mobilized a passionate, digitally savvy fan base, and gave him a platform to triumph while owning his flaws. But even if the general public accepts the jury’s verdict, he...

Conan O’Brien brought his 28-year career in late-night television to a close with a sweet list of thank yous, bringing an end to his linear small-screen career that has consisted of over 4,000 hours of TV.
Much like his final episode of The Tonight Show, he brought on Will Ferrell, via Zoom, as well as Jack Black as his final in-studio guest for his eponymous TBS show.
The hour-long finale started with a bang with his old friend Homer Simpson.
The cold-open was a skit from The Simpsons, which O’Brien previously wrote for, and started with Homer saying, “Oh my god, you’re one of the Impractical Jokers”. When an animated Conan stresses he was a talk-show host, the nuclear worker replies, “Ah, a dying breed. There’s only like 800 of you left”.

“Forget money, I’m focused on dignity and loyalty.” Those were the disturbing words spoken the other day by my favorite agent who, alas, is facing the prospect of going out of business.
Fortunately, the agent in question is French and fictional; she works for Ask and is portrayed in Call My Agent!, the hit show that began its fourth and final season on Netflix this week. Talent agents and their entourages have pitched and connived their way on TV before, but the French show has found a binge following, even among Hollywood’s besieged tenpercenters, as Variety used to call them.
Faced with strikes and streamers, the agenting community has had to make some bold moves, redefining corporate goals and expanding job descriptions. Agents are now even repping politicians and their causes as well as actors.

Richard Lewis, who has played a semi-autographical version of himself in HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm since the series’ launch, says he will not appear in the upcoming 11th season.
Lewis revealed the news Monday on Twitter, along with a photo of himself with star Larry David.
“What a ride, Ld! I love you, buddy. Tragically, these past 18 months I’ve endured a back and two shoulder surgeries and not able to be in #curbyourenthusiasm for season 11. I’ll be watching…”, he wrote.
In the series, Lewis’ portrays a longtime pal of David’s.
Curb Your Enthusiasm , which stars David as a fictionalized, gleefully misanthropic version of himself, was renewed for Season 11 in June. There is no premiere date as of yet.
David created the series and executive produces along with Jeff Garlin, Jeff Schaffer and Gavin Polone. Carol Leifer and Jon Hayman are consulting producers, and Mychelle Deschamps is producer.

When the 11th season of “Curb Your Enthusiasm” finally premieres, it will be without longtime series staple Richard Lewis.
Lewis, who has played a fictionalized version of himself on Larry David’s semi-autobiographical HBO comedy since its premiere, said Monday he can’t join in the fun this time around due to several surgeries he’s had in recent months.

Larry David will return to HBO for an eleventh season on Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Jonny Campbell, who recently directed Netflix’s “Dracula” series, will helm Paramount’s “Cold Storage,” an adaptation of veteran screenwriter David Koepp’s first novel.
Koepp became the go-to screenwriter for blockbusters, having worked on features like “Jurassic Park,” “Angels and Demons”, “Panic Room,” and “Mission: Impossible.” When he brought his debut book to the market in 2018, most major studios tried to grab rights, with Paramount being the most aggressive. Publishing rights went to Ecco and Harper Collins.
Paramount considers the project a high priority, with the current Covid-19 pandemic shuttering the industry, a production start date is still unknown.
“Cold Storage” follows a Pentagon bioterror operative named. Roberto Diaz. When he is sent to investigate a suspected biochemical attack, he finds something far worse: a highly mutative organism capable of extinction-level destruction. Larry David is back on HBO tonight with season ten of Curb Your Enthusiasm, two and a half years after his fatwa was called off at the end of season nine.
But, can we expect more episodes of the long-running comedy, starring David as a fictionalized, gleefully misanthropic version of himself?
HBO President of Programming Casey Bloys told Deadline, “The deal with Larry is that he tells us when he is ready to go. If he tells us he wants to do more, we’ll do more.”
Although David ends the last season running away from a man who doesn’t realize that his fatwa has been called, that’s probably the closest that he comes to death this season. Bloys joked, “He doesn’t die or anything [in season ten], I can reveal that now. There is nothing that would prevent [more seasons]. He’s thinking about what he wants to do. “

The WGA has filed its opposition to the Big Three talent agencies’ motion to dismiss the guild’s antitrust and price-fixing claims in their ongoing legal battle.
The WGA’s opposition, filed in federal court in Los Angeles, argues that the motion to dismiss – filed by Wme, CAA and UTA – “largely ignores the detailed facts pleaded in support of these causes of action,” and “should be denied.” On Friday, the judge hearing the case ruled tentatively that he would deny the WGA’s motion to dismiss the agencies’ claims against the guild. If U.S. District Court Judge Andre Birotte Jr. denies both sides’ motions to dismiss, the case would be headed for trial.

“Curb Your Enthusiasm” fans may struggle to do just that, as HBO has revealed the premiere date for season 10 of the Larry David comedy.
The show is set to return Jan. 19 on the premium cabler, with David once again playing a fictionalized version of himself as he stumbles from one faux-pas to the next.
“As I’ve said many times, when one has the opportunity to annoy someone, one should do so,” as David put it when the season 10 renewal was announced almost exactly two years ago.
Season 10 will “continue to prove how seemingly trivial details of one’s day-to-day life – a cold cup of coffee, a stained shirt, a missing toothbrush – can precipitate a chain of misfortune to hilarious effect,” per HBO. The series is famously shot without a script, as cast members are given only outlines of scenes and often improvise lines.

Audiences may have a few questions about the sequel to 2009’s hit “Zombieland,” which opens Friday.
Why did it take 10 years to make a second one, after the first grossed $102.4 million worldwide on a $23 million budget, making it the third-biggest zombie movie of all time?
Does Bill Murray return, even though as a human dressed as a zombie, he was definitively killed off the first time around?
And finally, will America’s obsession with the undead translate to a Halloween treat for “Zombieland: Double Tap”? The sequel is looking to take in around $25 million for its Oct. 18-20 opening weekend in North America, and hoping to sustain interest up to Halloween and beyond.
Emma Stone, Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, and Abigail Breslin reprise their roles from 2009’s “Zombieland” in addition to newcomers Zoey Deutsch, who portrays a ditzy survivor, and Rosario Dawson, Luke Wilson and Thomas Middleditch. Together, the new...

Recapturing the personality of a successful film for its follow-up can be a challenging task for a filmmaker, given the story told, characters involved and especially the time passed between installments. But even after 10 years, “Zombieland: Double Tap” director Ruben Fleischer knew exactly what to focus on to ensure that his sequel lived up to its 2009 predecessor.
“We really tried to carry the story forward as if we were picking up with them where we last left off,” Fleischer tells Variety. “But what I love about the first movie is the chemistry between the characters — that sense of family.”“Zombieland” was Fleischer’s first feature film, a low-budget, runaway success that launched his eclectic, thriving career. It is officially time to, once again, nut up or shut up.
The first trailer for “Zombieland: Double Tap,” the sequel to the 2009 comedy, dropped on Thursday and finds the original cast of Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Abigail Breslin and Emma Stone back in zombie-fighting action.
The gang has taken up residence in an unoccupied White House, and seems to have zombie-hunting and their own family dynamic down to a science. However, a couple of new human survivors, played by Zoey Deutch and Avan Jogia, shake things up. Plus, they also have to face new kinds of zombies that have evolved since the first film as they travel through the heartland.
The trailer also gives a first look at fellow series newcomers Rosario Dawson, Luke Wilson and Thomas Middleditch.
Original director Ruben Fleischer (“Venom”) reunited with writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (“Deadpool”) for the sequel, with Dave Callaham also writing.

Gail Mancuso always thought her feature-film directorial debut would be a comedy, given her background of having directed some of the biggest sitcoms in the history of TV. Instead, she found herself drawn to “A Dog’s Journey” due to the emotional connection she has to animals as well as the messages the film sends to viewers.
“Everything was leaning towards the comedy genre,” Mancuso told TheWrap. “I thought naturally I would do a comedy and I was working on one with Amblin, but then all of a sudden Amblin told me, ‘We have this other one that’s ready to go.’ [‘A Dog’s Purpose’ and ‘A Dog’s Journey’ producer] Gavin Polone knew me from ‘Gilmore Girls’ and we powwowed, and he knew I was an animal lover and had all these dogs, so I read it and, being a woman and loving the Cj story, I knew we could make it into something very special. Lionsgate/Summit’s John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum grossed a great $5.9M last night, a figure that blows away the R-rated action pic’s previous previews.
The first John Wick Thursday previews earned $950K while John Wick 2 made $2.2M, which repped 20% of its $10.95M Friday. John Wick 3‘s Thursday is even higher than the previews for Sony/MGM’s last James Bond movie Spectre which made $5.25M (which went on to earn a $27.4M Friday), and even 2012’s Skyfall ($4.6M Thursday, $30.5M Friday), though both of those pics were PG-13.
The Keanu Reeves R-rated action threequel from director Chad Stahelski (who helmed John Wick: Chapter 2) is poised to see the series’ highest domestic opening this weekend with $50M at 3,850 theaters, finally unseating Disney’s Avengers: Endgame in its fourth weekend which is expected to do $30M at 4,220. Endgame led all titles on Thursday with $3.4M at 4,662 bringing its three week running total to $741.38M.
